I don't like that drop. Let's hope it's just Sherlock.

sherlock since day 1 has been on a downward spiral. i think it has very little chance of 200m with this kind of holds. most probably will have the worst drop this weekend(sub 40M?).

It will still be a $100m opening week - and that's kind of amazing...
ALVIN will probably have an opening week of $100m as well...
And with this kind of competition AVATAR's success becomes even more amazing...

I like Gitesh's twitter. That's one I have definitely begun to keep track of lately.

"Avatar" grossed an estimated $18.3 million on Tuesday. Total for the true-blue blockbuster now stands at $250 million."

Peace,

So that would be a 5% drop for Avatar.

Actually, -9% is right in the range of drops in 1998. Of the Christmas openers
that year, Patch Adams fell 3% on Tuesday and The Faculty fell 14%.
Both Stepmom and Mighty Joe Young had small increases of about 3%.
Among holdovers, the only one that dropped was Star Trek: Insurrection. It
was it's 19th day of release and dropped 1%. Nothing had big increases.

I'd expect -5% for Avatar considering the size of the numbers this year
compared to then.

Then expect near a uniform 7-12% drop for everything on Wednesday. This is
based on 1998 numbers from thenumbers.com.

I'm going to predict a 59M weekend for Avatar.
With my predicted dailies, that would put it at 343M Dom by the
end of the weekend, putting it in 15th place ahead of LOTR:TTT at 341.8M
with Jurassic Park next to fall at 357M.

500m Avatar + 250m Alvin. Imagine if FOX hadn't passed in producing THE BLIND SIDE. A billion with just three movies and in 6 weeks.

While there was potential for a slight increase, a slight drop is not surprising for Avatar. Today should pull in roughly the same number, maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less.

Thank you for this wonderful insight

What potential final gross do you see for Alvin 2?

Great for Avatar and Alvin yet again. I do wish we could get the numbers in one big block again though.

I'm sure you would be quite satisfied if only the Top 4 would be reported this early... ;)

A weekend of $35m+ looks to be in store, so it should be around $155m by Sunday. It'll start dropping hard post New Year, but another $70m from there would give it $225m. If it has a $40m weekend, then $250m could be possible.

No, I just liked it when the sites used to post all 10 numbers instead of, like, one or two every couple of hours.
