Nice to see Promare being submitted.

I haven't seen all of the entries, but there's a lot of variety among them. Hoping for a a strong final five.

Post Re: Japan Box Office: Angelina Jolie Box Office History
Angelina Jolie has been the biggest female Hollywood box-office draw in Japan for almost 20 years now, so like with other big names with huge draw power (namely Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp), here is her history at the box-office in the market ahead of the release of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil:

Angelina Jolie Box-Office History (2000-):

¥1.83 billion ($17.1 million) - Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) [N/A Overseas Market]
¥2.70 billion ($22.1 million) - Lara Croft Tomb Raider (2001) [#1 Overseas Market]
¥2.00 billion ($16.4 million) - Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003) [#1 Overseas Market]
¥260 million ($2.4 million) - Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) [#3 Overseas Market]
¥1.23 billion ($12.0 million) - Alexander (2005) [#2 Overseas Market]
¥4.65 billion ($39.1 million) - Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) [#1 Overseas Market]
¥420 million ($3.7 million) - The Good Shepherd (2007) [#5 Overseas Market]
¥130 million ($1.2 million) - A Mighty Heart (2007) [#2 Overseas Market]
¥800 million ($7.4 million) - Beowulf (2007) [#3 Overseas Market]
¥2.50 billion ($24.2 million) - Wanted (2008) [#2 Overseas Market]
¥1.28 billion ($13.1 million) - Changeling (2009) [#1 Overseas Market]
¥2.05 billion ($23.9 million) - Salt (2010) [#1 Overseas Market]
¥1.87 billion ($22.7 million) - The Tourist (2011) [#1 Overseas Market]
¥6.53 billion ($63.5 million) - Maleficent (2014) [#1 Overseas Market]

Notes
>List excludes all voice-characters, though I did include Jolie's motion-capture role in Beowulf.
>By the Sea didn't receive an actual theatrical release in the market. It was only shown at festivals, followed by a very limited release in a few theaters.

Just watch Ride Your Wave and it's surprisingly far exceed my expectation, i just notice that there are 3 water theme anime films this year (Weathering/Ride/Children) Ride is significantly better than Weather, I'll watch Children of the Sea in the next 2 but I doubt it can top Ride.
Also Ride Your Wave is firefighter theme of the three released this year again, the other two are Promare and Fire Force.

I didn't have time to post a Weekend Forecast this week, but after looking at the numbers, I probably wouldn't have anyway. Since last Saturday was impacted so heavily by the typhoon, this Saturday saw increases above 100/200% across the board versus last week. It would have been very difficult to post a reliable forecast under these circumstances.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil opened this weekend, and it is...nearly bombing. It's going to debut in second place, well behind Joker's third weekend. A Disney live-action fantasy tentpole losing to a DC film in its third weekend is quite the headline.

I wasn't expecting Maleficent 2 to match the success of the original, and wouldn't have been shocked with a decline near 50% (not uncommon for questionable sequels released neither too early or too late), but it's actually looking at a possible 60%+ decline. Pretty harsh.

Hi Corpse

Japan was the number one overseas market for Gone in 60 seconds ahead of France and The UK.

Regarding the DC movies chart, I have rentals numbers for Batman Returns at ¥0.7 billion, Batman Forever at ¥0.45 billion, Batman & Robin at ¥0.7 billion and Supergirl ¥0.505 billion.

Cheers

Rental numbers as in distributor income, or simply rental numbers?

>Joker earns itself a third-consecutive weekend atop the box-office, once again achieving the #1 spot with relative ease. The film sold an additional 234,000 admissions in its third weekend, bringing its cumulative admissions up to an impressive 1,845,043. It's already the second highest grossing DC film ever, surpassing Superman II over the weekend. It'll go on to surpass Batman (1989) within the week to become DC's highest grossing film ever in the market, breaking a 30-year old record. So, where is it headed? It's clear the film is going to continue its leggy run, so it's difficult to pinpoint at the moment, but a total north of ¥4 billion ($40 million) is looking very good.

>Maleficent: Mistress of Evil failed to fly, selling just 158,000 admissions over the weekend frame across a whopping 828 screens; and selling 207,031 admissions since Friday. Its debut is down a disastrous 68% compared to its predecessor, and with expected weaker legs, it's likely to experience a decline over 70/75% in total. ¥1.5 billion ($15 million) is going to be the best it can do, but I doubt it quite reaches even that mark. Very, very disappointing result for Disney (and rare Angelina Jolie misfire) this time.

>Star☆Twinkle PreCure: Putting Thought into the Star Song, the 27th entry in the overall PreCure film franchise, settled for third place, selling 140,852 admissions over the weekend across 232 screens. This is down a good bit (35%) from this past Spring's release, but that film celebrating multiple series' coming together. I don't track the PreCure films as well as I should, but I believe this debut is in the standard range for the franchise.

>Weathering With You finally falls outside the Top 10. In its fourteenth-weekend of release, however, it surpassed The Last Samurai to become the 12th highest grossing film of all-time. Its cumulative admissions reached 10,277,360. Toho will keep the film playing in wide release for several more weeks despite the diminishing returns, and it'll likely continue to play into early next year in limited release. I expect it'll end up finishing with ¥14 billion ($130 million) on 10.5 million admissions.

>Joker looks to repeat at #1 for a fourth-consecutive weekend, and while I haven't checked for confirmation yet, it certainly exceeded ¥3 billion before reaching the weekend, thus surpassing Batman (1989) to become DC's highest-grossing film in the market. Its weekdays have proven to be very, very strong, indicating a significant adult-audience, a group that tends to drive films for quite some time at the box-office.

I said last week that a total of ¥4 billion ($35-40 million) was looking good, and that's become locked up, and I wouldn't be surprised if it finishes closer to ¥4.5 billion ($40-45 million). And to put such a figure into perspective compared to other DC films; it'd be over 90% of the combined totals of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, and over 4x higher than the total for Justice League. The film has obliterated the DC filmography at the box-office in the market.

>The second to fourth place positions are contested this weekend, and could probably be arranged in every manner possible: Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend has the edge in terms of pre-sales, but the barely wide theater count is certainly a disadvantage. However, I'm still predicting it debuts in second place due to likelihood of a very high average ticket price that most Aniplex releases share. Gemini Man isn't looking to impress despite starring the typically reliable Will Smith.

That lists his full work including TV. He's also made some short movies, ones that haven't gone to theatres.

I just wanted to know what his feature films are, ones that went to theatres.

I'm not entirely sure but his first feature lngth film was The Place Promised In Our Early Days followed by 5cm Per Second, Children Who Chase Lost Voices, The Garden of Words, Your Name and finally Weathering With You.

Personally, I think that "5cm Per Second" is his best film so far followed by "Garden of Words". "Children who chase lost voices" is his weakest film in my opinion because it tries to hard to be a Ghibli movie. Other notable short films include "Voices of a Distant Star" and "Someone's Gaze". Voices is very impressive because he produced the film completely alone while working from home on his PC. "Someone's Gaze" is a 6 minute short film that I like to recommend to people to see whether they like Shinkai or not. You can find it on Youtube. If you like "Someone's Gaze" you can watch basically every Shinkai film and will probably enjoy it. "Weathering With You" I haven't seen yet, but I hope that it is more like 5cm and Garden again and less like Your Name even though I still enjoyed Your Name a lot.

>Joker repeats atop the box-office for a fourth-consecutive weekend, delivering another great hold. Selling an additional 180,000 admissions over the weekend, the film has reached a cumulative total of 2,403,682 admissions after four weeks. Joker's solo outing has obliterating the DC record books, and has surpassed Batman (1989) to become the highest-grossing film based on a DC property. Expect a total north of ¥4.5 billion ($40 million+), but the chances of it reaching the blockbuster milestone of ¥5 billion ($45 million+) have increased substantially enough that I'd bet on it happening.

>Maleficent: Mistress of Evil held steady enough to hold off the new openers to remain in second place, selling an additional 105,000 admissions. The second weekend hold is okay, but any unlikely attempt of recouping from its awful opening are gone now. A total of ¥1.5 billion ($15 million) is its ceiling, which would result in a mammoth decline of 77% compared to its predecessor.

>Gemini Man settled for a disappointing third place debut, selling 100,000 admissions over the weekend frame across -- an unnecessary -- 682 screens; it sold 133,621 admissions since opening on Friday. I wouldn't label this opening as a bomb, but it's certainly disappointing, especially given the usual draw ability Will Smith has, or had, in the market.

>Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend debuts in fourth place, but its opening is quite successful given its screen count of just 121. The latest release from Aniplex sold 89,758 admissions over the weekend, giving it a noticeably high average ticket price of ¥1,519 ($13.97).

>Immortal Heroes is worth noting this weekend due to its exceptional second weekend hold, dropping a mere 3%. The film (an inspirational, true story) has excellent reviews and audience scores (averaging 4.5/5 on most sites), and has received notable nominations (and a few wins) at international film festivals, though no one involved with the film has had notable success in the past, be it critical or financial. I think we can expect a very leggy performance, and a total above the ¥1 billion ($10 million) milestone is certainly achievable.
