Doraemon's first week is up, so it's losing a large amount of its showings due to under-performing, including the largest screen and the majority of IMAX screens at every location, so theaters are giving them back to Demon Slayer.

And good think too, since it's a giveaway weekend and Saturday is filling up very fast. A third of showings are already reaching 50% full or better at the busier locations over a day out. I want to see how it looks going into Saturday to make any predictions, but right now if I had to guess, I'd say it's certainly aiming for a 400,000+ (admissions) day.

Note that the Friday seating includes many locations at 50% capacity since it's a weekday. The Saturday and Sunday seating will add 300,000 or more seats to that total, so it'll likely be back over 800,000.

So the chances are Demon Slayer will surpass 800k admissions this weekend ?

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
I'm not expecting a jump quite that high. I'm mostly expecting the weekend admissions to either be on par with last weekend, or maybe experience a slight decrease/increase.

Just need to watch over-predicting Saturday from the strong reservation status. The Saturday two weeks ago looked like it was aiming for a 20-30% increase over the previous Saturday, but it ultimately came in 2.8% below it. Still an incredible result at levels that high, of course, but the strong reservations were a bit misleading. I think the reservations this Saturday will give the illusion of an even bigger increase (probably starting out up to 50% higher) since last Saturday was just slightly deflated, but come down to maybe 25-30% or so.

So when the Saturday updates start to come in this weekend, definitely wait until later in the day before reading too much into them. There's a lot to "wait and see" going on this weekend, Saturday especially, but we do know that Saturday reservations are very, very impressive a day out now.

And @Corpse what do you think about my predictions ? Do you think they are realistic or inaccurate at times ?

Looks reasonable enough for such long-term predictions.

Personally, I think Week 12 will probably be a little stronger, while Week 13 will be a little weaker. Week 12 is where the real holiday boosts are going to come from, whereas Week 13 should be on more of a downward trend.

Also Week 14 has a holiday (the 11th), so while it will be down a good bit, I wouldn't expect the full week to be down more than 50%. Unless a film is skewing really young, 50% drops of any kind, even after holiday periods, are pretty rare. It's super, super early, but my guess is that week would drop more around 40% from whatever Week 13 earns.

And in general, the numbers through mid/late-January, and then later throughout February and March, and so on, are probably going to be stronger than a lot of people think. It'll slow down, sure, but it won't be on its way to wrapping up for quite some time. There are no October releases to reference, but some of the biggest November films, while slowing down a bit into mid/late-January, still performed well for several weeks, even months, afterwards. Really the only films that stall after the holidays are either younger-skewing films and/or poor-to-average received releases.

So for example if it is at 40k admissions at usual locations at 6pm, DS can finish at 80k admissions at the end of the day?

Fridays are the weakest day in the morning and early afternoon, but they're the strongest weekday in the evening/night hours. Looks like it'll continue its trend of having a Friday on par with or slightly below Wednesday.

actually maybe I'm wrong but I think most of the people who saw Demon Slayer this week between Tuesday and Friday were the ones who didn't even know there was a giveaway on the weekend

A bit surprised to see a better drop today right before the start of the giveaway, looks like it'll improve a bit on wednesday even. I guess getting screens back helped a bit.

Your final note is a truly absurd fact. And I want to clarify that it's not just the volumes released this past year, but as you bold, each and EVERY volume (including the early volumes from four years ago) sold more than the previous record-holder. So it broke the previous yearly high 22 times over.

And the return of its IMAX screens today definitely helped it, as it will over the weekend, too. The film has been an absolute smash on IMAX, and they're always the first showings to fill up.
