So Broly is 6.28% ahead of Resurrection F after 6 weeks. If it finished that way it'd make ¥3.975 billion and seeing as its percentage difference seems to be pulling ahead (last week it was 3.8%) then it's gotta have a good shot at ¥4 billion no?

While I completely route Broly for ¥4 billion, Battle of God stopped at ¥2.99...

Mirai is nominated for Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature. A weaker work of the kemono director Mamoru Hosoda in my opinion, but it's destined to lose because other contenders are much stronger.

Bohemian Rhapsody exceeded the ¥10 billion milestone on Tuesday, earning ¥10,041,675,000 ($89.9 million) as of its 74th day in release, becoming the 32nd overall film to reach the uber-blockbuster mark. It's also Fox's fifth film to reach the mark.

I assume Bohemian Rhapsody is locked to win the Foreign Language Picture category?

Very strong favorite. The Greatest Showman could win; Hugh Jackman is popular with the Academy and the film was also very, very well received, but it'd be an upset.

Luckily for both, The Mule hasn't been released yet. Clint Eastwood is incredibly difficult to defeat.

04 (03) ¥115,000,000 ($1.0 million), -38%, ¥1,175,000,00 ($10.8 million), Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel II - Lost Butterfly (Aniplex) WK3
05 (04) ¥x85,000,000 ($775,000), -41%, ¥3,605,000,000 ($33.0 million), Ralph Breaks the Internet (Disney) WK6
06 (---) ¥x80,000,000 ($730,000), 0, ¥105,000,000 ($955,000), Psycho Pass: Case 1 - Crime & Punishment (Toho Video Division) NEW
07 (05) ¥x69,000,000 ($630,000), -43%, ¥360,000,000 ($3.3 million), Touken Ranbu: The Movie (Toho Video Division) WK2
08 (07) ¥x63,000,000 ($575,000), -05%, ¥715,000,000 ($6.6 million), Love! Live Sunshine!! Over the Rainbow (Shochiku) WK4
09 (06) ¥x42,000,000 ($380,000), -40%, ¥3,825,000,000 ($34.6 million), Dragon Ball Super: Broly (Toei) WK7
10 (08) ¥x31,000,000 ($280,000), -52%, ¥140,000,000 ($1.3 million), Taxi 5 (Asmik Ace) WK2

>Masquerade Hotel will easily remain atop the box office in its sophomore frame, and should deliver a pretty impressive second weekend. So far, everything is in order for it to reach the ¥4 billion ($35 million+) milestone. Toho couldn't have hoped for a much better start to the year.

>Bohemian Rhapsody seems to have benefited a bit from its Oscar nominations, as its recent weekdays were barely down versus last week, and its weekend pre-sales suggest a very small drop in its twelfth weekend of release. If its weekend actual comes in near the forecast, it'll achieve the fifth biggest twelfth weekend ever recorded.

>12 Suicidal Teens, directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi (Trick, SPEC, 20th Century Boys), should see a decent debut in third place, but I can't help but think a little more was expected from this film. It had a good enough start on Friday, but its weekend pre-sales are a bit lackluster. We'll see. I think this film should be able to manage at least ¥200 million.

>Psycho Pass: Case 1 - Crime & Punishment is the first film in a trilogy, where its sequels will be released just a few weeks apart (the second film opens Feb. 15th, and the third film opens March 8th), is a bit of a wildcard. I recall a prior film opening above expectations, so I wouldn't rule out a Top 5 debut and possible ¥100 million opening.

Oh I didn't think Dragon Ball was still looking at being in the Top 10 considering there seemed to be a bunch of new releases.

By the way what does the X mean? ¥x42,000,000.

Sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't.

Yeah, this weekend has a ton of new releases; there are 17 openers playing in 10+ locations. Nearly all of them are limited though, and I don't believe any of the limited releases will reach the Top 10.

And what feasby007 said about the "x".

"Finally" is the best selling album of the decade (2010-), and I have to do a bit more research into it, but I believe it's the highest selling album since 2004's MusiQ by Orange Range, or also from 2004, Utada Hikaru Singles Collection Vol. 1 by Utada Hikaru. It will probably, eventually, surpass both of those albums though, so we may have to go back as far as 2002's Deep River by Utada Hikaru (the last album to sell 3 million+ copies).

It's Namie's second best selling album ever, out of nineteen total (12 studio, 7 compilation). I also pretty certain it either entered, or is just shy, of the Top 40 best selling albums ever. That includes both domestic and international artists. If we're only including domestic, I think it's in the Top 30.

Following the release of the album, and as of her retirement on September 17th, she finishes her music career as the fourth best selling female artist in Japan with 36,189,000 records sold according to Oricon:

51.57 million (from Jan. 1999 to Feb. 2018) - Ayumi Hamasaki
42.00 million (from Nov. 1973 to Aug. 2013) - Yumi Matsutoya
37.10 million (from Mar. 1999 to Feb. 2018) - Utada Hikaru
36.19 million (from Oct. 1995 to Sept. 2018) - Namie Amuro

Post Re: Japan Box Office: Weekend Forecast (01/26-27)
I expect Broly to do more than ¥3.85B accumulated til Sunday. Any less than that will hurt the chance to reach ¥4B.
