I don't know but it should surpass ¥10B before Spirited Away (25 days) but it's actual holding will be known only after holidays ends. Before that I am doubtful about it's pace.... Even, if it can hold Spirited Away legs then it will be more than amazing. But, but, but... I doubt if it's ever happening (-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩___-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩) Also, NWH might hurt it badly on it's opening weekend. I would just ask God, "Why?, First NYE, then steep weekend,.....(╥﹏╥) (Can not stop crying)"

Uhm, chill lol. It's just a movie.

I don't really think Spider-man will hurt it that badly. JJK is currently only filling 15-20% of its shows daily, it can lose half of them and not really be impacted all that hard. The main bad thing is that it'll lose IMAX, if anything, but I'm assuming the movie will likely expand to 4d anyways since it hasn't done that yet, maybe even as soon next week.

That said, 10b in less than 25 days doesn't seem very likely to me. Assuming it'll either be at 7b or very close that on friday, that'd mean adding another 3 billion in 9 days max on top of it. Which...seems very hard? Maybe if it expands to 4d next weekend, but even then it's a lot to ask since holidays are almost over.

Not quite sure how long it took SA/howl for 8b, though, and that seems much more doable to me since there's another extended weekend this week.

You're too worried Kanroji. Even with the screen loss Jjk0 should do enough business. It's still holiday weekend after all, plus they have different audience and JJK0 doesn't need all those screens now to post decent numbers (that was OW requirement alone).

It will be interesting to see if No Way Home can surpass ¥1 billion over the 2-day opening. Not even Endgame managed to do it although it came very close.

I question the marketing strategy of Sony/Marvel for this movie. Based on the poster and trailer, there is no mention about the appearances of Tobey and Andrew which can catch more attention from people. Right now they may just think this is another Tom Holland spiderman movie.

In long run, this PR way can cause the movie to lose part of its potential gross.

>Jujutsu Kaisen 0 looks like it had a bad second weekend, and the weekend frame itself certainly was disappointing, but only due to New Year's Day landing on Saturday this year. If you actually look at its weekly numbers, you'll see that it more than doubled its 3-day opening weekend as of Sunday, its 10th day in release. The weekdays are always strong during major holiday periods, but this New Year they represented more of the weekly total than usual due to the date alignment.

As of Monday, it has grossed ¥5,873,064,900 ($51.2 million) on 4,314,027 admissions with a Monday that was 65% as strong as its entire second weekend. It became the second-fastest film to reach both the blockbuster milestone of ¥5 billion, as well as 4 million admissions.

>99.9: Criminal Lawyer impressive in its 4-day/5-day New Year weekend opening weekend. Over the weekend frame it sold 264,000 admissions, but over its full 5-day opening it sold 740,711 admissions for a gross of ¥962,766,860 ($8.3 million). It's a bit tough to project where this will take it without seeing any post-holiday numbers yet (which won't fully be until January 12th), but I would expect a finish around ¥3 billion ($25 million+), perhaps? It's pretty rare for a Shochiku release to gross this high (I know the Arashi film just did, and more, but still), so that milestone would be a particularly impressive achievement for them.

>The Matrix Resurrections had what may appear to be a great hold, and it certainly is, not going to dispute a 22% decline. New Year is most favorable for adult-skewing films (the first 3/4 days of January is longest consecutive days most workers get off in Japan), so it was able to secure the best hold over the New Year weekend.

>Your Turn To Kill will probably crawl above the ¥2 billion milestone. Toho was expecting more of a ¥2.5/3 billion performance here, but it's still performing pretty well.

>Arashi Anniversary Tour 5x20 FILM "Record of Memories" exceeded the ¥4 billion milestone over its sixth-weekend. It is now the 7th biggest film of 2021 (soon to be 6th biggest), and could manage to crack the Top 5. Stellar performance here.

13-Day Total: ~¥6,468,064,090 ($59.84 million) / 4,759,027 *est.*

All right! All the past weekdays have been adjusted to more closely match the actual total as of Monday. And this week's estimates will take this into account. It's doing better in the rural prefectures over the weekdays than on the weekend (not unusual), which helps drive up the admissions (which came in a little over 80,000 higher than estimated for the entire week), but this also lowers the average ticket price a bit (off 4.6% from its first 3-days).

Not as strong of a Wednesday, but not bad either. Most anything would hope to do about 200,000 admissions on day 13 in the middle of the week. (That's also more than any opening weekend for any Disney film in over 2 years.) Thursday and Friday will continue to drop-off as more schools/business resume. And then we enter the third weekend, another 3-day holiday weekend, after which we may have a better idea of where it may be heading.

Think wednesday was pretty good considering businesses reopening. One of the better holds of the day in fact.

Spidey looks good in the busiest locations but pretty meh the further you go from those.

I can already say people are going to be disappointed by Spider-Man even if it does jump like 50-100% or more from the last film(s). I even recall some "that's it?" comments when Endgame opened/finished, despite it having the biggest OW for a Marvel/DC film in 12 years and also becoming the highest grossing Marvel/DC film in 12 years.

Marvel, and just Western comics like DC and others, just aren't established or particularly popular in Japan. Japan's comic (manga) industry is vastly larger than the Western (or at least U.S) comics market. It's not fair at all to compare Marvel/DC box office numbers in Japan to other markets where they're among the biggest films ever. There are only 2(!) Marvel films in the Top 100 in Japan (SM1 and SM3) and they're near the bottom of that list.

They're not record breaking potential films, and expecting them to be because they are elsewhere doesn't translate in a market like Japan. It sets up unfair (and unrealistic) expectations.

Anything over +30-50% FFH is more than enough, because that's what it has done in most places.

NWH seems to out of luck. Japan is ready to go for Third Emergency. Breakdown will be revealed once ministerial meeting ends in evening.

Jujutsu Kaisen Movie 0 &99.9 Criminal Lawyer.... almost all works has dropped drastically.

The drop is normal since thursday is normally the weakest day of the week and holidays are wrapping up, nothing to be surprised about there. Also doubting theaters will close down or be under heavy restrictions in jp anytime soon unless things drastically get worse.

Also - JJK honestly kept more than enough seats for the numbers it's doing on over 600k, so I really don't think spiderman release affects it much at all beyond losing most imax screens. Even with a good drop it'd still only be filling ~25% of its seats or so.

As for Thurday Corpse already clarified that there will be drop but I wonder if there will be any further restrictions on theaters because that hasn't been the case for past 2 years. Otherwise no way home for Spiderman lol.

Cases have really exploded in recent days, especially down in little Okinawa. The U.S. base there has a significant ouybreak, and a curfew is being placed on them.

The cases are still well below peaks, so I wouldn't be concerned for now. Full-on theater closures have only occured twice, and just once nationwide (April/May 2020). If cases climb further (likely the case given the past 2-3 days), restrictions such as closing early are probable again. Thankfully, restrictions themselves have very little negative impact on the box office.

Thursday's numbers don't reflect any of this though. New Year is largely over, so today and Friday will be near regular weekday level. So expect nice bumps over this upcoming weekend.

NWH Forecast: I expect ¥600M for Sat-Sun and ¥1B+ for three days. If I include Monday (which is a holiday) then should go for ¥1.2B.

If it goes higher then my prediction, then it's great<( ̄︶ ̄)>

Isn't 1b 3-days what Far From Home already did to begin with? Would be pretty underwhelming if it failed to get any increase.

Far From Home did almost exactly ¥1 billion in its first three-days, ¥1.009 billion.

No Way Home will definitely need to beat this, OR come close/match that and then have a very big Monday (holiday), if it wants to see any significant increase in total, I feel. Mid-January through early/mid-March is typically a weaker period for the box-office, so with a degree of some frontloading (even the best received Marvel films are frontloaded by Japan standards), the bigger it opens, the better, as it'll have almost no support for the majority of its run.

Now... Hollywood has had a pathetic 2 years. They're still down 80-90% in 2021 versus 2019 or earlier. It's been almost entirely big disappointments (e.g. ~50% declines from predecessors/below expectations) or outright bombs (~70-80%+ declines/below expectations) outside of, literally, ONE, or arguably two films. And it's just not because of the pandemic because local films have been performing perfectly normal (including all-time records, franchise records, and other major achievements being accomplished), a few films aside, for 1.5 years now.

I think a hell of a lot is on the line for Hollywood/Western releases with this movie. More so than any film I can think of, honestly. And even the entire Japanese Box Office needs it do deliver. Japanese films account for the majority of the market's box-office, have for over a decade now as their share trends higher and higher, but Hollywood films still need to do pull their weight to keep it healthy.

Besides a so-so release date (although, some big films can take advantage of a typically less competitive/open market like we're about to see, so it's not really a bad spot), it has so many factors in its favor to deliver some big, impressive numbers. If it just posts similar numbers as the last 4 Spider-Man films (all 4 have grossed between ¥2.80-3.16 billion, very, very consistent totals), or sees a small-ish increase (let's say under 20/25%), this moves Hollywood from a currently questionable state in the market to a far more negative position. And if it decreases..., well...

01/06 (Thur.): ¥170,000,000 ($1.47 million) / 120,000 *est.*

14-Day Total: ~¥6,638,064,090 ($61.31 million) / 4,879,027 *est.*

Most of the holiday boost ended today. Friday should either be roughly flat, or see a slight decrease. If it can do another ~120,000 admissions tomorrow, and reach 5 million on day 15, it'll be the second fastest film to ever do so. But if not, and it does it on Saturday (day 16), it'll be a three-way tie for second fastest with Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. A standalone second would be preferred, of course, but 5 million admissions in 16 days is very nearly equally as impressive.

Also, unlike last weekend, this weekend will see an uptick over Friday, so a strong third weekend hold is pretty likely. It should also hit ¥7 billion on Saturday, which I think will make it the second fastest film to reach that milestone. (I'll check this to make certain as Howl and Spirited Away are probably at 16/17 days)/

Note: Entry determined by widest day of a film's opening weekend (typically first Saturday, but some are for Friday).

Very, very good for Spider-Man. Could have been more like 750,000 I bet, but it couldn't receive and/or shares some of the largest screens with Jujutsu Kaisen (which has roughly the same amount of seats this weekend), but almost 700,000 is plenty (with lots of showings).

Now we wait and see how it performs!

Spiderman: No Way Home Box Office
Midnight Screenings : ¥12,786,890 /7,896 attendees

Someone posted that on BOT. Not sure much can be deduced from it, except for the seemingly pretty high average price.

Many bigger Hollywood films that are playing sufficiently in premium formats can often get above ¥1,500/1,550 over their opening weekends. ¥1,600+ is certainly high, but perhaps not surprising since the midnights are limited to the big cities where tickets are a tad pricier, and where the premium format share would naturally be higher. Friday, and the weekend, should be in that ¥1,500/1,550 range.

I'm guessing it's an estimate (I'd be surprised if Sony bothered to report such a number immediately on Friday morning ~7am at the time of your post), but it should be reasonably close regardless. But yeah, can't read anything into that really given the limited shows.

I don't like comparing Friday figures between films, but using very comparable films might be somewhat reliable, at least in getting a *bit* of an idea of how it's doing versus FFM and Endgame. It helps that all three, while opening in very different times of the year, all had their Friday's (OD) fall on largely regular weekdays. Endgame is probably the better comparison in determining a pattern for the day/weekend since it had a holiday Monday, which No Way Home will have.

At the Usual Locations, on Friday (OD), (2pm -> 7pm -> Final)

Far From Home (46,638 -> 94,767 -> 149,951)
Endgame (92,022 -> 154,583 -> 248,394).
