Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals (11/05-06); Charts Update
Good catch. I missed it.
Its weekend gross hasn't been made available yet (or rather, those with the figures haven't released them). It grossed ¥68,378,140 ($465,000) on 48,339 admissions in its first 4 days of release. And it ranked 7th in admissions over the weekend frame. My guess is it grossed ~¥25-30 million over the weekend, so probably debuted in 7th-9th place.
I'll add it once its weekend figure is released.

Also another good catch you missed is that in the top grossing films of 2022 Sword Art does not appear.

Oops! Haha. Thanks, that'll be edited in soon. Might have to estimate the admissions (based on the OW ATP) though since Aniplex is spotty with releasing cumulative admissions.

New Detective Conan movie in April 2023 as usual the annual ones. https://twitter.com/conan_movie/status/ ... 1760119808I also hope this gets a North American release even if it is limited one than the other anime movies which are wider. Hopefully Crunchyroll will handle it.

Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals (11/05-06); Charts Update
Monday appears to have been the final day of the rerelease (or "revival screenings" since this was reported as more of an expansion by not separating them and still including the original April 15th release) for Bride of Halloween. Adding nearly ¥448 million to its total in those 10 days was quite impressive.
And I don't know how Detective Conan would do in North America. It'd be cool to see one of them given a release though, but I'd have real doubt it'd do very much.

There's been a fair amount of more niche anime title films released in NA and none have done really well, so I doubt it's worth the expense for licensors. There's a chance it could make some money on home video for a smaller publisher like Discotek, but expecting anything theatrical would be misguided at best. There's just not the demand there commercially nor have distributors been able to train consumers to see films past one day (because so many are one-day only screenings).

Since in a few days both Suzume and Wakanda Forever are finally releasing, do you have any personal predictions on how they will potentially make over the 3-day/2-day weekend in Yen/Dollar Corpse?

Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals (11/05-06); Charts Update
Weathering With You didn't see a significant increase in OW over Your Name., at least not as big as it could have been given Your Name.'s massive success, so I wouldn't predict much of an increase for Suzume over Weathering With You. Now, there is that giveaway (3 million copies) to take into account this time which could boost the OW a decent bit.
So, I think it'll either match Weathering With You's OW or see a "small-ish" increase of maybe 5-10% or so.
Wakanda Forever will probably have the standard MCU opening around ¥250-350 million. Very, very few MCU films have opened above that high end without Spider-Man or Avengers attached. The first Black Panther opened to ¥309 million.
So, without looking at presales, I'll go with:
~¥1.1-1.3 billion (OW) / ¥1.6-1.8 billion (3-Day) - Suzume ~¥250-350 million (OW) / ¥350-450 million (3-Day) - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
So, easy #1 debut for Suzume with that, but no surprise there as one of the biggest films of the year. And likely #2 debut for Wakanda Forever, although it does risk settling for #3 if the One Piece Film Red giveaway gives it a similar 100%+ increase like two weeks ago.

Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals (11/05-06); Charts Update
The seating/showings are through the roof for Suzume. It's averaging 21 showings a day per theater. Even without Aeon Cinemas, the largest chain, it's has more seats and showings than the vast majority of major releases (including Shinkai's own Weathering With You), and is in the top 10 widest releases ever.
And if we had Aeon's figures, it looks like it could be among the top 5 widest releases ever.
Not let's see what sort of opening could be in store in a couple days.

Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals (11/05-06); Charts Update
It’s already Friday in Japan and today is the release of Suzume there and it is among my most anticipated films and will be excited for it to come to other countries next year. It sure going to be fun tracking its box office there and will sure have a great opening weekend. I think there is hype for this outside of Japan especially among the anime community and I have a large group of friends with half being fellow anime fans and the other half being non-anime fans and somehow they are all excited for this as I am since they liked Makoto other two films which were box office successes in Japan. It’s sure going to be awesome seeing how Suzume does in Japan.

Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals (11/05-06); Charts Update
Hard to make any comparisons for Suzume since Weathering With You and Your Name. both opened in the summer where Fridays are generally stronger. And there are very few major tentpoles that open on a Friday in an off season month like November.
It's a very good start though, based on the number alone, for a Friday morning. If I had to make a sort of "wild" guess, it could be targeting ~200,000, which would be around ~375,000 nationwide. And that'd be ~¥525-550 million. A super impressive Friday if it winded up there indeed. Saturday should be a good deal larger, too, since we're in November. How much? A little hard to say again (no good comparisons), but it obviously would guarantee an OW over ¥1 billion, but should be comfortably above that at ~¥1.3-1.4 billion if I made a prediction off that very rough Friday prediction.
Wakanda Forever will see a small Saturday increase since MCU films are really frontloaded. There's really not much to discuss with it since it's just doing normal MCU numbers in the market which isn't very much.

Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals (11/05-06); Charts Update
Yeah, definitely not doing 200,000 (or close, really) at this point. There was likely a bit of a Friday morning rush to get the giveaway item from those either skipping class/work or who had a couple hours before they had to go to school/work. Friday evenings are strong though, so could still do ~150,000 which is still really, really good.
But we can't really read much into Suzume's Friday. Saturday is where we can make some fair enough comparisons.
And Wakanda Forever is probably aiming for ~50,000 or maybe a tad more. This is par for the course for the MCU/DC releases.
