This is a mini segway! Seems like anything demon slayer touches turns to gold! Not only is the movie promotions boosting the sales of canned drinks by Dydo drinco, Kura Sushi Inc which runs more than 460 restaurants across Japan, have surged 14% this month and are trading near levels last seen in 2018. Five plates of sushi at the restaurant lets customers play a game to win badges and other merchandise featuring “Demon Slayer” characters.

Corpse I think Frozen had a better Tuesday during Golden Week holiday, can you please check it?
It made ¥1.27b on May5 and May6 combined, and May6 accounted for 44% of the two days per mimorin, 0.44*1.27=560m

Indeed. Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) has boosted every company's revenue and sales that's collaborated with it, and as a result, it has provided a boost to the Japanese economy. And as the end of that article mentions, investors are seeking other collaborations for the future.

I see. I thought you may have thought it was referring to the Kentaro Ito known for a ton of voice acting.

Let me go back and do some more research on it.

Do you have a source for the ¥1.27 billion? Or did I post it and just forgot. :funny:

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
I‘ll copy some old posts from this thread and analyze based on that:

Frozen's Path to ¥20 billion+ ($200 million+)
¥1.09 billion ($10.8 million), +40%, ¥14.50 billion ($142.2 million) *Estimate*

Estimated Golden Week Earnings:
Apr. 29th-May 05th Gross ¥ ($) / Estimated Total ¥ ($)
¥3.12 billion ($30.6 million) / ¥15.220 billion ($149.2 million) - Frozen (53 Days in Release)

Estimated Golden Week Earnings:
Apr. 29th-May 06th Gross ¥ ($) / Estimated Total ¥ ($)
¥3.70 billion ($36.2 million) / ¥15.800 billion ($155.0 million) - Frozen (54 Days in Release)

Weekend Ranking [05/03-04]
01 (01) Frozen (Disney) Week 8
>Frozen stays on top for an 8th-consecutive week to no ones surprise, and has now earned ¥15.94 billion ($156.3 million) after 54 days in release. It has become the 8th biggest film of all-time, and will quickly become the 6th-biggest in a week or so before it challenges the all-time Top 5 films.

We know that the acutals (15.94b) came in higher that your estimates (15.8b), so it's likely that it did more on Tuesday than your estimate (580m), and even if it did less, it's unlikely to fall below 545m, does this make sense?

Corpse wrote:

It was 15.94b after Tuesday (May6), and I've seen some charts saying the 8 week total was 14.63b, so ¥1.31b on Mon + Tue. Your estimate also had the 2 days earning 1.3b combined.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Hello to all, like ARQandARG, I just created my account in order to add some precisions regarding the manga situation.
For people following manga sales, The confusion between sales and circulation number has been a nightmare for more than 10 years.

There were 4 kinds of mistake :

- speaking of sales while using circulation numbers which were falsely labeled as sales numbers.
- speaking of sales while using circulation numbers which were correctly labeled as circulation numbers.
- speaking of circulations numbers while using inacurrate ones for example a french link mentioning Black Jack selling 176 000 000 is a pure fantasy, it might be closer to 46 000 000 (52nd on the list https://lesitedujapon.com/top-100-manga ... -au-monde/)
- comparing a manga global circulation numbers with another manga circulation numbers in Japan only.

For clarificication, 2 basics tricks were proposed :

- physical sales = Oricon numbers only.
- all the rest is circulation numbers.
- differentiate Japanese and global cicrculation numbers.

Personaly, I prefer to focus on Oricon because it is much easier when everyone knows we're speaking of the same thing.
Someone mentioned it but concerning Oricon, it is indeed confirmed that the Kimetsu no Yaiba official fanbook isn't included with the other volumes of the serie.

Glad to be one of you now, if someone is interested with the record list for the manga, tell me, I'll try to put the numbers in order and post it soon.

Thanks for registering and bringing that up, ymblcza. The last Tuesday of Golden Week, and not Showa Day which I've considered its Biggest Tuesday til now, never crossed my mind. It certainly looks like that is the Biggest Tuesday. I'll go back and double check and do some cross-checking.

Iscariote, welcome to the forum! SO many new members this week! And thanks for elaborating on the manga side of things, especially on the sold copies versus copies in circulation topic (since this is regularly misreported/translated by English sources). This, too, is why I prefer Oricon's reporting since they report physical sales only, allowing for a more tangible tracking method (Japan only, physical sales only, no confusion).

If you want to post your numbers for Kimetsu no Yaiba, definitely feel free. (Just might want to try and keep the thread/discussion focused on Kimestu verus other properties).

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Saturday seating and showtimes have been released from the usual locations (~70% of the market):

1st Saturday: 1,336,504 [267/6,170]
2nd Saturday: 1,210,084 [261/5,770] *6 locations didn't process*
3rd Saturday: 1,138,489 [267/5,534]

For a third straight weekend now, it has broken the previous widest release record. Frozen II held the record on its opening weekend with 1.08 million seats and 3,770 showings on its first Saturday. It's the only other film to have exceeded 1 million available seats at the usual locations.

The average theater is also still showing it 21x a day. Before Demon Slayer achieved an average theater showing over 20 (three weekends in a row now!), the previous known record was ~12-14x a day (Frozen II at 14), which was the pretty common range for most major blockbusters.

Thanks for the welcome, I'll try to stay focus on Kimetsu. As said earlier, keep in mind this is a list using and comparing Oricon weekly, monthly, and yearly rankings of physical manga sales in Japan. Oricon began these rankings in 2008.

- Best Year in Oricon's history : 2020 with 75 788 576 sales (ongoing).
- Best semester in Oricon's history : first semester 2020 with 45 297 633 sales.

- First volume in Oricon's history to sell 3 000 000 in 3 weeks : Kimetsu no Yaiba #22 with 3 131 075 in 17 days, from October 2nd 2016 to October 18th 2020.

- Best selling volume in Oricon's history : Kimetsu no Yaiba #01 with 4 311 038 (ongoing).
- Best number of consecutive apparitions in the top 50 weekly Oricon ranking for a volume : Kimetsu no Yaiba #09 and #10 with 65 weeks (ongoing).
- Best number of apparitions in the top 50 weekly Oricon for a volume: Kimetsu no Yaiba #15 with 74 weeks (ongoing).

- Best selling fanbook : Kimetsu no Yaiba Official Fanbook with 1 017 583.
- Best number of consecutive apparitions in the top 50 weekly Oricon ranking for a fanbook : Kimetsu no Yaiba Official Fanbook with 11 weeks.
- Best number of apparitions in the top 50 weekly Oricon rankings for a fanbook : Kimetsu no Yaiba Official Fanbook with 30 weeks.

- Best selling limited edition for a volume in Oricon's history : Kimetsu no Yaiba #21 with 1 459 203 sales.
- Best number of consecutive apparitions in the top 50 weekly Oricon ranking for a limited edition : Kimetsu no Yaiba #20 limited edition with 8 weeks.
- Best number of apparitions in the top 50 weekly Oricon ranking for a limited edition : Kimetsu no Yaiba #20 limited edition with 8 weeks.

- Kimetsu no Yaiba #01 to #18 monopolised the first 18 spots of the Oricon top 50 weekly rankings from January 27th to February 2nd of 2020.
- Kimetsu no Yaiba #01 to #19 monopolised the first 19 spots of the Oricon top 50 weekly rankings from February 10th to February 16th and from April 27th to May 3rd of 2020.
- Kimetsu no Yaiba #01 to #22 monopolised the first 22 spots of the Oricon top 50 weekly rankings from October 19th to October 25th of 2020.
- Kimetsu no Yaiba #01 to #17 were in the Oricon top 50 weekly rankings 42 weeks in a row, from November 18th of 2019 to September 06th of 2020.

That's it, I might have missed some and I'll have to edit the best selling volume in Oricon's history because the weekly rankings will be out in a few hours.

Edit with numbers from week #49, from October 19th to 25th of 2020.

The only thing missing, that I can think of, is that I know that all of its volumes occupied the top X spots for at least one week on the sales chart, the first time a series had ever accomplished this feat. But I'm thinking it achieved this a couple more times after that first time. If it helps you check, I think it first accomplished this first ever feat around the time of volume 18 or maybe volume 19's release.

And I could be wrong here, but I've seen all of its volumes in the Top 50 all year it seems. Not necessarily all in the top spots, although they're regularly all in the Top 30/40, but I don't think any of them have been outside the Top 50 since this year began, possibly even late last year shortly after season one of the anime ended.

Oh, thanks, I totally forgot this one! You have a great memory, I found this.

Just before #19 release, all the first 18 volumes were in the 18 first spots from January 27th to February 2nd.
Then, from February 10th to February 16th, all the volumes from #01 to #19 were in the 19 first spots.
Same case for April 27th to May 3rd.

Concerning the second point, I have this in my numbers but I'll check it more accurately tomorrow :

In week #43 of 2020, from September 07th to 13th, volumes #03, #04 and #06 were missing from the top #50.
In week #44 of 2020, from September 14th to 20th, volumes #04 and #05 were missing.
In week #46 of 2020, from September 28th to October 04th, volume #04 was missing .

In the last week of 2019, some were missing, so we can say that Kimetsu no Yaiba #01 to #17 were in the Oricon top 50 weekly ranking 42 weeks in a row.

Thank you, I'll edit my previous message with these two new records.

The admissions are fine, but the percentage difference is off because Aeon Cinemas was down most of last Friday. The missing sales last Friday were added going into the 19:00 (7pm) update, so the percentage difference will be correct beginning then.

It looks good to me though, very good possibly. Friday acts differently than the other weekdays, starting lower in the morning/afternoon, but explodes in the evening/night.

It seems likely. Very likely. Reservations on Saturday and Sunday both look very good right now, and since its seating/showtimes are only slightly down, it's probably not going to be off much versus last weekend again.

But it's important to remember that its drop in gross is going to be noticeably higher than its drop in admissions this weekend because Sunday is a national discount day. There could be as much as a 15% difference there. I want to see how Friday plays out before making a prediction, but I'm currently anticipating the drop in admissions to possibly be under 10%, maybe even remaining flat versus last weekend, so the drop in gross will probably be around 15/20%.

Huh, friday seems to be quite a bit down right now, even compared to yesterday...might be an error but I don't see a notice about it as of now.

Friday mornings/afternoon are slower than the all the other weekdays, but see huge gains in the evening and is much bigger than the other weekdays after 5pm or so (especially from 7pm on). For reference, it was at 175,000 last Friday at 6pm (after Aeon Cinemas was added in), then shot way up to end the day at 348,000, nearly doubling its daily sales in just ~5 hours.

The 2pm update has it down 23% versus last Friday. This is likely accurate as it's a similar decline at this time as the other weekdays this week. It will probably improve a bit throughout the say (like the other weekdays), and enjoy a strong ~20% drop versus last Friday.

I'll wait for final numbers to make sure of course, but a sub-25% decline this Mon.-Fri. versus last week is looking likely. Kinda insane with these figures and no sort of benefits.

Looks like the blog missed Movix today, should still be roughly the same ratio(23% down) since last week it missed Aeon.
