JustLurking wrote: ...Oh dear. This might actually break its own saturday record... Probably greater than a 50% chance of that happening right now. Just remember that after 8/9PM, it will fall well behind in the updates. It's at an 83% sell-rate as of 1PM. If it can stay at that level through 7PM, then it will probably beat Saturday.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Also, guys... After I post the 2PM update in the next hour, I'm going to bed. In the past 72 hours or so, I've only gotten 7 or 8 hours of sleep. My time zone is 13 hours behind Japan's, so it's not the ideal of situations to keep track of this over a 3-day period. But I definitely didn't want to miss out on tracking this truly once-in-a-lifetime opening weekend. The chances of this happening again are as close to 0% as you can get without ruling it out.
However, I will be back likely in time to begin again around the 7PM update and will fill in the prior updates then as well.

It's 1pm and it already broke the previous record. It's slaying everything in its path.

Danhjpn wrote: Can this thing has better multiplier comparing to Yokai Watch We'll have to wait and see. This is unprecedented territory on every level so far. I personally think it will because its audience is much more broad than Yo-Kai Watch, which if you recall, was over 90% children under 10 and their parents. The series fell off a cliff after just a couple of years due to its audience just aging a few years and losing interest, and its fanbase is almost non-existent now. The most recent film grossed 8% of the first film's total... Demon Slayer is a more mature series (the movie is rated PG-12), and has notable female support, especially for a Shonen series. Females make up to 60% of the moviegoing audience in Japan, so this is a major advantage versus a film like Yo-Kai Watch or other franchise films that are somewhat restricted to just their base. Not to mention that Hollywood has helped clear the way this Fall and Winter in terms of any potential competition outside of local films now.

Just imagining 93% (or even anything over like 85/90%, honestly) of every seat at every theater being filled nationwide at any point in time is insane. Insane. It just doesn't seem realistic, yet it's happening. For the day so far, from when showings began at 7am until almost 2pm, it has sold 84% of every seat theaters have had it on.

And this with those record breaking seats and showtimes. Insane indeed.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Okay, going to bed at last. But I'll be back around the time of the 7PM update, since that's probably the most important update today and will determine if it has enough of a lead over Saturday to surpass its own record.
Since many of you are also following the usual locations, here are some targets to keep in mind until I return:
3PM - 600,000+ 4PM - 675,000+ 5PM - 725,000+ 6PM - 815,000+
If it's at these levels at those times (use the most recent update AFTER the hour as reference, not like 2:55pm as 3pm), then it's on track to beat Saturday as long as the 7PM update also delivers, but I'll be back online then. It needs to continue to be as close to an 85% sell-rate as possible come 7PM.

Currently at 570706 with 84.6% attendance. Last 20 minutes were 92% again, it's like the 4th or 5th time it has done so today, crazy...

Unless the evenings are abnormally strong it's not going to beat Saturday's record, but still amazing nonetheless.

It needs to do a bit more than a third of its Saturday business from now on to beat the record.

I believe it can still do that because of some spillovers due to these insane demand and almost all theaters being packed.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
It is currently at 958487 (25k to its saturday record) with about 76k seats remaining if I'm correct. It'll at the very least get very close, but beating it is still possible.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
It's at 2,26 times Frozen II's number at the same time. If it keeps that up it will end up with around 978k. It only needs to push it to 2,28 to beat the record. For that it needs to do a bit over 3 times Frozen II's number in those last few hours.
