Here's a kicker:

Could James Cameron actually have the biggest global hit of both the 1990s AND the 2000s?

The next decade is 11 days away, so obviously, Avatar is the only film that is left to compete with ROTK.

$232,180,000 down, $886,930,941 more to go...

Well, I expect Jim to do this, but he has a long way to go to top Steven Spielberg who delivered the biggest hit of all-time with JAWS in the 70s, E.T. in the 80s and JURASSIC PARK in the 90s...

So? Doesn't take away the fact that it was the biggest hit of all-time from 1993-1997...

you meant that he broke the all time record in 3 decades right. bcos star wars did beat jaws in 70's. i agree spielberg has more impressive resume. he has delivered movies in all genres and with all budgets. plus he has shown ability to make a film quick. jim takes for ever to make a film.

Em, what? We're talking about entire decades, and Titanic doubled Jurassic Park, irrespective of how long JP reigned. And I'm not sure if Jaws was the decisive 1970s winner, given Star Wars. I think worldwide, they were more or less head to head.

Also, Jurassic Park is a bit tarnished for me because of how close Forrest Gump, The Lion King, and Independence Day got to it in 1994 and 1996. No film is close to Titanic as of now.

Mark meant that Spielberg managed to deliver the highest-grossing film of all time three times. One each decade. That IS impressive.

Jurassic Park looked even more impressive when it was released because 1990-1992 were a box office wasteland. Its true that only a year later Gump and TLK came dangerously close in a much more competitive summer, but JP was still a rare box office event.

Titanic off-course lifted the bar once again. It doubled the previous years No.1 film (ID4). Thats like a film doing over $1b domestic now (ie. doubling TDK).

Of course, and Spielberg is still the box office king. But it's a completely different issue.

I just love the idea of James Cameron doing nothing for over a decade and then suddenly coming back at the end and giving us the biggest film of the decade :funny:

Simply because of inflation and huge growth in the overseas markets. In one decades time, grosses around $1billion overseas will not be hard to get i think.

I wonder if PJ will take out an ad in Variety like Speilberg and Lucas did when Titanic topped the all time chart?

But the joke was with #1 movies. And it's not PJ's joke to make.

After watching it, I hope it beats ROTK. It's a superior film experience than the LOTR films, and would be a worthy #1 for this decade.

$1.2B, please!!!
