Am i wrong in thinking this could be big ni Japan? The design of the world has somewhat of that aesthethic sensibility the japanese seem to dig, imho.

"From the Director of Titanic"

Put that in the trailer, and $100m+ is guaranteed in Japan.

It has a higher chance to excel than flop i think. The sci-fi and disaster themes plays better in Japan than pre-history (King Kong).

War of the Worlds afterall, as bad as it is, made more than $60m in Japan. Artificial Intelligence with Spielberg's name made more than $100m.

I see Avatar grossing at least $80m in the Christmas season, normally a very big season with almost every movie doing well. The Potters have opened over this timeframe before so to have Nemo and Monority Report both $100m+ grossers...

Real prediction is $120m-$140m with Cameron's name and a great release date. It's closest tracking partner is probably Minority Report.

BOM has Minority Report as grossing $42m in Japan?

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?pa ... report.htm

I also thought that A.I. grossed something like $70m-80m, rather than $100m+.

While one might expect scifi and robot movies to do really well in Japan, on average they don't really do any better there than the rest of the world. And American movies have been doing pretty weak in Japan in general over the last couple of years. For some reason their market has become heavily dependent on local movies. It's one of the really strange developments in the the international market, I can't figure out why it has happened.

Eh, Avatar will be huge in the UK.

We are suckers for 3-D at the moment. My Bloody Valentine 3-D was the biggest horror hit in years here in January.

Plus, i think UK was Titanics biggest international market??

I'm actually hyped up for this film. I can't wait to see a trailer though.

Avatar is the only movie left with the potential to crack the Top 3 Worldwide this year, it's going to be very difficult...with Transformers 2 being it's easiest (out of the 3) to crack.

Potter is headed for a gross somewhere around $925m and which challenge TTT for the #8 position Worldwide.

Ice Age 3 looks to land somewhere between Finding Nemo and may challenge FOTR for the number 16 spot on the Worldwide charts. $870m or threabouts.

Transformers 2 will be overtaken by Ice Age 3, so will move down a spot to #20, that's where it'll stay with a couple of million left in its run. Will probably finish with $830m.

I still have Avatar at around $300m Domestic + $450m+ worldwide for $750m....though if it explodes in countries like Japan, Russia, China....this may well go north of $500m for a worldwide gross above $800m. Christmas/NY will help.
