Post DEVIL INSIDE midnights
Paramount could have another Paranormal Activity mega-profit project in theaters today. That found footage exorcism pic The Devil Inside acquired for $1M opened with $2M midnights from 1,400 theaters.

That's pretty great for it. For reference from this thread, The Last Exorcism did $750k. It's also better than A Nightmare on Elm Street ($1.6m), Saw 3D ($1.7m) and all the non-Paranormal horror movies listed.

Great number given the theater count. $10m+ OD looks set.

Not too suprised considering there were quite a few sellouts last night. Could go as high as $12M today even with terrible WOM.

Is it 2 mil. from midnights or 2 mil. from the 9pm showings, the 10pm showings, the 11pm showings, and the midnight showings?

LOL! according to THR TDI did get an F Cinemascore. Can't say it's not deserved though. The movie is pretty fucking bad.

What a monster number for Devil. It's going to drop like a goddamn stone (F grade lol), but still going to be so profitable.

It's almost a hard performance to process.

Because obviously it's impressive--a huge profit for all involved. A micro-budget exorcism movie just opened to 15 mil. in one day.

But the movie is so, so crap. And it was hit with the relatively rare F CinemaScore. So it almost feels wrong to use a word such as "success."

Wasn't Bug one? And Soderbergh's version of Solaris, I believe.

Often it seems to be movies which are just too unusual or challenging for general audiences.

Honestly, though, you know this movie is bad when it couldn't even get a D CinemaScore. This is not a demanding audience. Ten good jump scares, a halfway acceptable ending, and people would have left satisfied.

I wonder why horror audiences hated Wolf Creek so much? I thought it was effective. Maybe too much of a stark downer?

I forgot all about Wolf Creek getting an F rating. That's crap because I thought Wolf Creek was great. Maybe they couldn't understand the accents :P. The other F's are more understandable, though I loved Bug myself. Pretty bad for The Devil Inside to get an F. Like you said David it would have been relatively easy for them to satisfy the target audience.

Solaris doesn't deserve its F. It's beautiful.

It's completely understandable, though. I remember they sold it in the home stretch as almost a sci-fi suspense movie.

I'm almost surprised The American didn't get an F. Similar scenario.

I hope you don't think I was saying the other movies deserved their F. I just found it understandable how they could receive one. I didn't care much for Solaris myself but I wouldn't say it deserves an F. Though I do think it may have been a bit different if I watched it now. Might have liked it better.

Wolf Creek was awesome, but I can understand why Americans didn't like it. It wasn't your typical cookie-cutter slasher flick and if I'm remembering this right the entire movie was really fucking dark and twisted. Still it didn't deserve an F.

It's also interesting how almost all those other F movies did fairly poorly at the box office. The Devil Inside grossed more in its opening day than a few of them did in their entire runs.

So a lot more dissatisfied people.
