Greek Wedding's Top 5 streak was actually a consistent one (10 weeks long...damn). I was asking about a film that was dropping in the rankings, then made a re-entrance into the Top 5. Though films in the Top 5 after eight weekends of wide release period are still pretty rare. |

You can't say the last 2-3 weeks have been anything remotely close to exciting. Watchmen after all hit an expected number, good, but expected. Last year Horton was the only movie in March to do well despite a relatively strong lineup. Really, at this point, it's not exciting anymore to see Blart and Taken STILL being the only movies there. Great for them but what about everything else. We need more excitement I'm sure you agree. |

Well BK, just remember, we didn't say before Paul Blart, the next 2-3 weeks are going to be huge at the box office and start a streak that runs on for a long time. The fun of tracking the box office so far this year has been seeing very unexpected films massively overperform. Watchmen was already pegged as a blockbuster, so even with an $80 m opening weekend, it would pale in comparison with Taken or Paul Blart's unexpected blockbuster success imo. We can't peg what will be exciting, it just happens. A big opening from Watchmen wasn't going to be that exciting anyhow, as we already knew it would probably be the biggest opening of the year up until this point. What will be exciting is the unexpected stuff. Like seeing something other than Monsters Vs Aliens and Fast and Furious open big, because we already know they will. Watchmen's weekend was going to be boring anyhow even with a $80 m opening because it was already pegged to be big. I would be more interested in seeing Witch Mountain overperform than Watchmen, because Witch Mountain didn't have as high expectations. |

Dude, an R-rated, 160-minute superhero movie nailed a $25 million opening day in March. It's certainly not a breakout (in fact, it's a couple notches below expectations), but it's also not boring. And so what if Paul Blart and Taken are still holding up really well? Apart from Jonas Brothers, everything in the top 10 is holding pretty well. Going by those estimates, Madea is the only other holdover headed for a drop over 40% (though Slumdog is very close). |

I agree with BK, working at a movie theater is pretty boring right now. Looking at these numbers is rather boring. Madea's breakout was awesome, but then it dropped 60% and JB bombed. And then with a totally empty market place Watchmen failed to ignite and will settle for expected numbers. Boring. At my theater we sold about 250 tickets for Watchmen last night (may sound bad but the male college/young adult is by far are worst demographic) and we sold less than that to all other movies combined. So yes, I would call this and especially last weekend dull. I can only hope that RTWM will ignite where watchmen failed to. |

Slumdog's drop surprises me a bit. Sure last weekend was inflated a little bit, I'd still think it would drop around 30% though. Ouch on Jonas Brothers, wow. Right in line to what I was thinking for Watchmen. Saturday is the big question now. 10% drop? or up to 30% drop?? I'm sticking with 20% to lead into a $59 million weekend. |

At least Jonas Bros were destroyed. Further proof CORALINE needs to get back in those 3D screens. Idiotic cinemas, maybe they'll do something right for once next week. Coraline still has gas in the tank. Yes, it has Witch Mountain but its 3D has been really fantastic so I don't think it'll be affected at all. 2 more weeks and the demise of the J-bros. Couldn't be any better if that happened. |
