Dragonball is opening this weekend. Expectations seem to be pretty high, so should be interesting and it's the most obvious key market for it's success.

It did cost 100M+ afterall.

Indeed. No idea how the budget reached that level. The visuals look "okay", but just very average. And Sheron from the short footage doesn't look much better than the dragons in Dragon Wars which cost under 50M.

^ LOL that is terrible.

They spent bulk of their money marketing in Japan yet the opening is so weak. Should have done 6+ million but 3 million is laughable.

On top of that WOM is poisonous so it is going to drop hard in all these markets. Last weeks Yatterman opened with 4.6+ million LOL

I am loving how this is bombing in Asia. I heard opening in taiwan, singapore, malaysia, south korea were poor too.

In China it cracked 3+ million which is good but still it has bombed pretty much in asia.

Post subject:  Re: Japan Box Office (09) March 7-8

Yatterman was expected to do well too though. It was seen as one of the strongest spring releases, so the solid opening for it is expected.

But 3M is indeed poor. No way does it come close to it's budget WW. Huge loss for Fox.

Does DBZ have any potential in europe. Fox may not even release it in certain territories if it has such low potential. I think it will not even crack 100M WW.

Japan was always going to be it's biggest market I'm sure, unless it somehow caught on somewhere else. But the americanization of Dragonball probably caused some backlash too.

And it didn't help many fans had no interest since it didnt even look like Dragonball at all.
