Re: Release Date Change Thread
The Top Gun delay is purportedly to ensure the complex aerial scenes aren't rushed. I just wonder if they've had some production issues. I'm sure the film will still be good.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
After Deadpool and BP, I am confident of that date! It also frees up November 2019's schedule. I like Cary Fukunaga's TV work but I have my doubts on whether or not he can deliver a big budget tentpole. Guess we have to wait and see.

Nice, not too much if a delay and I like the choice of director.

Yeah the last one was awful. Disney will run the franchise further into the ground just like they have with Star Wars.

Second Act will move to Dec 14, 2018. The date is suddenly very busy with 3 to 4 wide releases expected.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
Fox moves Battle Angel: Alita from December 21st to February 14th. They're supposedly releasing a PG-13 Deadpool 2 (wtf???) in the slot instead. Dark Phoenix moves from February 14th to June 7th. Gambit continues to be a fart in the wind slowly drifting down the release date schedule. https://deadline.com/2018/09/dark-phoenix-alita-battle-angel-deadpool-gambit-release-date-changes-1202473229/

Re: Release Date Change Thread
I know the competition is tough, but I liked Alita in December. The expansion of the market would have given it a chance at $100M with strong WOM. Now it will be lucky to even match Jupiter Ascending.
X-Men moving to the summer is fine. It belongs there.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
I mean, Alita wouldn't have done any worse than it will do in February. May have done better. And of course it will certainly do better than a possible PG-13 Deadpool 2 which nobody will go see and is a total waste of advertising dollars. Don't know what they're thinking with that. I am happy Dark Phoenix moved though so it's less competition for Happy Death Day 2. Alita won't provide as much competition.

Not sure if it helps DP or not and Alita is probably doomed regardless of what they do. I think they are just desperate with it.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
From what I understand, it's just so it can get released in China. I doubt they will even advertise Deadpool 2 being in theaters in December - probably less than 100 theaters.
Though honestly a hyper-aware version where Ryan Reynolds dubs over himself with ridiculous version of cuss words might be even more funny (assuming it's not your first viewing).

Re: Release Date Change Thread
What I don't understand is why did Fox announce a release date change for DP after the trailer came out two days ago? In that they mentioned the February release date. I mean if they're gonna change the schedule, why not release the trailer now with the new release date mentioned in it?
For Alita though, I don't know if this move is good or bad. For one it'll be out of this crowded December but it'll lose on holiday legs as its advantage. Next year Feb-March window isn't as empty as this year. Alita will face Lego movie, HTTYD3 and then Captain Marvel. So it might not have late long legs even if it's good. I guess we shall have to wait and see what Fox were thinking when they made these changes.

MGKC wrote: From what I understand, it's just so it can get released in China. Fox could have released a PG-13 version in May for China but it did not. So I guess Deadpool 2 had next to zero chance of passing the Chinese censor, in any edited form. So the theory of re-releasing DP2 for China is not very plausible.
