MAMMA MIA is going to top out just short of SEX AND THE CITY domestically. Considering how much smaller it opened, i think thats vastly impressive.

Well, the gap will be pretty decent actually (I'm thinking $7-8 million). But yes, amazing run.

On some older films:

If I were Paramount, I'd give Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull a last theatre count bump, so that it could pass $320 million eventually. As it is, it looks to finish with $31.5 million or something. Still a very solid performance and not one bit disappointing.

Get Smart looks to pass $130 million eventually. I can't help, but wonder why it actually didn't get better legs. I know there was competition and all, but it seemed to be the kind of a film to get pretty solid legs and finish with $135+ million. I wonder if there will be a sequel to this one. Carrell could use a franchise of his own (Evan Almighty wasn't his, I'd say).

Sex and the City is just $1.028 million away from becoming one of the 20 all-time biggest R-rated movies domestically, but it obviously won't make it at this point.

Step Brothers has become Will Ferrell's 4th $100+ million hit. A nice rebound from Semi-Pro.

It's quite shockingly amazing that Space Chimps will end up with a multiplier of over 4.

You mean over 4, unless a rerelease is coming. Still way too much. :glare:

:drop: Holy shit is that bad. At just over $7 per ticket ave, that's 18 people per theater, or 6 per day per theater on average. That's like one person per showing, average. That means possibly hundreds went unviewed. Epic Fail is sort of an understatement.

I did some checking, and as far as I can tell, this is the first year at least in modern box office history that we've had both a new record high and low for a wide release on opening weekend!

And how fitting the films themselves to break those records are, considering our current state of mind politically
