Huh? That's a great budget for THG. I expected $100m for sure.

Well I didn't, I thought it could have done with $75m-$80m

Post subject:  Re: Production Budgets

Well with tax credits they did manage to keep it at $80m.

And I wonder how much did they actually spend from those $45m that they put in the marketing budget. With this kind of money I'm pretty sure they got a good discount on their ads.

I just hope the last film in the series doesnt cost 200m +

Post subject:  Re: Production Budgets

They have actors signed for all movies so their costs won't go up like it did with Twilight 4.1 and 4.2. They will probably keep it around $100m for movie.

But book 3 might cost them 200m+ because they are making two movies out of it.

Well they need to have a script for X-Men, which so far they don't have. And since Catching Fire is suppose to start filming in summer then I think they will manage to end filming it before X-Men will start filming.

I don't want to spoil anything, but Mockingjay (final book) will require a bigger budget than Hunger Games and Catching Fire. Probably not $200 million big, but close to $150 million sounds right to me.

Mockingjay will be made as 2 movies, so of course it will cost more :P

why two, the books aren't that long.

It was originally planned to be split into two films (pure greed here with the book being less than 400 pages), but recent articles I've read suggests they may scrap that idea.

good, probably the directors prompting to scrap the idea.

That's great to hear. There is absolutely no need to draw it out into two movies. Definitely my least favorite book of the three.

^Agreed there is seriously nothing much in Mockingjay that could stretch it into two movies, but as of now officially there are 4 movies right now, I hope that they drop that stupid idea.

Wrath of the Titans - $150 million

http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/29/2 ... round.html

I couldn't find any concrete number for Mirror Mirror. Wiki says $60 million (no source), and an article from a few weeks ago said $90 million.

It speaks more to how well Lionsgate handled it, but it's remarkable that Mirror Mirror's budget is higher than Hunger Games.

EASILY.

I'm thinking $270-300 million worldwide. Enchanted did over $210 million overseas five years ago. This should be able to do at least $180 million OS (and I don't see less than $80 million domestically).

Wrath of the Titans is high, though. Will really need to perform well overseas.

No I think Catching Fire should cost the most. Very special effects heavy.

Mockingjay, so much happens off-screen...unless of course they actual use their creative license and show it to make it better than the awful book.

What happened to mark? Has he stopped posting budgets? Lots of movies on BOM have missing budgets normally discovered with mark's links.

Post subject:  Re: Production Budgets

While it is good for a sequel I think for Wrath the budget is on high end, it will still turn into profit thanks to OS numbers but it won't be as big as the original for sure.

Mirror Mirror is also on high end but that films should get back its budget easily.

It is obvious from the trailers that the movie is more expensive than Hunger Games and I know THG is doing well but are we going to compare that to every movie released this year?

Isn't Ridley Scott one of those directors, alongside Cameron and Fincher and a few others, who doesn't pay much mind to budgeting and just spends, spends, spends and expects to have his demands and expectations met, cost be damned?
