Wow, Agent 47 will lose money. Actually, so will American Ultra.

Post Re: Production Budgets
Studios notoriously downplay their budgets so if you want to get a more accurate picture, add about 30-40M to the reported budget of an average blockbuster. Disney is one of studios that does that all the time, for example. Therefore, when studios decide what gets a sequel and when (you bet that POTC4 wasn't "just" 250M since it took them so long to get #5 off the ground), they go by the real budget/profit ratio. And that changes perspective a lot.

Likewise, a movie that makes more money in its first 10 days is better for the studio than movie that develops late legs but didn't open on par with expectations and overall didn't hold as hoped for in the first 10 days (when studio keeps the highest % of earnings). And then there's overseas market that looks good in fanboy franchise wars but it's actually quite fickle which is why domestic opening weekend is still the most valued thing. For example, 200M from Western Europe and Australia >>>>>>> 200M from China because Western Europe + Oz give studios a % similar to domestic market while they don't even keep 15% from China or something. Explains why many movies that look profitable to us weren't really profitable to the studio from theatrical release alone.

I suspect that is true, but we have to go by something, so we go by officially reported budget figures.

Good as expected for Sinister 2. Should be profitable.

Agent 47 seems ok. The first did $60m OS so this might see a slight uptick in total specially if it does good in China(though not sure if they will release it there).

American Ultra looks like a good investment for Lionsgate but its figures are so weak this weekend I guess they will still loose money on it.

Both are absolutely fine. Refueled will make that budget look small if it opens in China.

I mean, I know horror is the most profitable genre out there, but The Visit only costing $5m is just taking the absolute piss. Fantastic that it will not only be well received but also a big hit.

According to Eli Roth, smaller movies tend to have $30-$35 million advertising budgets. This is a good data point for those interested in the always obscure prints and advertising budgets which play a role in determining whether a film ends up profitable for studios.

Wow, that's huge for The Martian. I expected much less. By the trailer it doesn't appear epic at all. That is obviously great for The Walk. Huge, huge profit for that one.
