Re: Production Budgets
That is a much larger than expected budget for Unfinished Business. Holy cow.

Cinderella - $95 million http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/ ... tion-filmsAt first I thought that was a bit high but makes sense considering it looks gorgeous and costs about 1/2 of Alice, Maleficent and Oz.

Re: Production Budgets
Wow, that is like nothing for Cinderella. Disney usually finds something to spend stupid amounts of money on.

Re: Production Budgets
Yeah, that's almost shocking low in my opinion. A sub-$100 million budget is very rare for a Disney tentpole.

Incredible budget for Cinderella. I don't believe the marketing is going to be that high either.

Insurgent - $110 million http://variety.com/2015/film/news/box-o ... 201454595/For some reason I always though Catching Fire's budget was lower than 100 mili but it was 130.

Definite bomb on their hands. But you can at least see where the money went....the same cannot be said for Hunger Games movies.

Re: Production Budgets
I don't think that's a guarantee. The first couldn't manage it. Even if it reaches $300m, that's still in the red (presuming that 50% of that comes from the domestic market as it did with the first film). Anyway, I'm not going to go into film finances yet again. I'll let someone else do it. Or just believe what you want. I don't really care.

The general rule as I've had it broken down to me is budget x2 + $90m = breaking even.

Re: Production Budgets
Fuck me, that is a huge budget. Of course there's no problem with it making its money back, but still, was there any need to spend so much on what is essentially just an action movie? I mean, there is no sci-fi element or fantasy element to it, so the CGI should be at a minimum. Did the re-shoots and break from filming add to the cost? I heard actually that there was CGI done on Paul Walker's brother's faces to make them look like him. I guess that inflated the cost.
I wonder how much the last two cost so we can compare.

I wonder how much the last two cost so we can compare. Lol! Algren. The rumored budget for this before was $250M including $50M going towards the CGI on Paul Walker alone. I'm honestly surprised they even kept it under $200M, but BIG practical action scenes do cost a lot of money to make. Sure, their are some CGI enhancements aswell, but the practical sets are there.

Wasn't it all shot on-location? That adds to the expense.

Re: Production Budgets
I'm sure the budget does NOT include the $75m the insurance company had to hand over for the delay, the rewrite & reshoots and Walker-FX..

Re: Production Budgets
Jurassic World - $180M Link - http://www.ew.com/article/2015/04/08/ju ... ew-previewThe article actually says 180+, but I remember last year in a similar article from Empire that Godzilla's budget was said to 160+, but it turned out to be $160M flat. Anyways, this is a nice sized budget for a movie with heavy CGI and hopefully a good amount of practical effects.

The initial reported budget for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was 110 million before it went up to over 170 million.

Re: Production Budgets
Yes, I expected more for Jurassic World. It's a good budget, and should see a healthy profit. I wouldn't like to see the marketing budget, though. It must be huge.

Proof that marketing and advertising can sometimes exceed the production budget. http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/36572/ ... 85-million
