Hancock is just huge here and is very likely to become the #1 of the year so far pretty soon. After just 11 days, it's already the 5th biggest film of the year and will pass I Am Legend's total within less than two full weeks.

Nim's Island is showing some good staying power thanks to holidays, though its total won't be great.

Indy's holding on, but it will just miss 3 million admissions. I'm thinking something around 2.85 million sounds right at this point. It's solid and a better result than War of the Worlds or Minority Report achieved here, but still not very good considering the hype and all.

Kung-Fu Panda is quickly developing to a big hit as well. I could se it hitting 3 million admissions without a problem, ending up in the Top 10 of the year. However, I fully expect WALL-E and Madagascar 2 to outdo it here by a margin.

Hmm, interesting. However, I remember the last time that pre-sales led me to believe that a certain film is a lock to open to open to 1+ million admissions...not too long ago. :lol:

All I know is that I glad as hell that FM is being released because the trailer for it was shown in front of EVERY SINGLE movie I have seen during the past three months (seriously, I beluieve they had some deal with the theatre chain...).

Mhm...definitely.

Though I must say that a similar overexposure strategy was also used on Die Welle (at least at the theatres around my area...however that teaser/trailer looked much better, so it took longer until I was fed up with it).

Narnia and WALL-E are getting the most marketing in theatres around Bonn/Cologne as far as trailers go. I've been to over 40 movies in theatres this year and these two trailers were shown in front of at least 25 of them.

However, The Dark Knight...I have seen only twice so far and onmly the first trailer.

It probably depends on the chain. I usually go to a Cinemaxx and they have shown TDK with every appropriate movie (meaning not HORTON etc. ;-)) and in the last couple of weeks SUPERHERO MOVIE was everywhere...

I go to Kinopolis, Cinedom and sometimes Cinestar. Kinopolis shows Narnia with almost every film. Hell, they showed a trailer for it with Prom Night and The Ruins. I mean what's up with that?

Well, it's long been rumored (but never officially confirmed - neither by exhibitors or distributors) that some distributors (a German one in Munich and an US Major in Berlin) pay the major theater chains for trailering...

Wouldn't surprise me at all. The Disney movies (Ratatouille, Pirates, WALL-E, Narnia) are being advertised as hell at Kinopolis.

what are the biggest OW in terms of dollar? It would be interesting to compare TDK's OW to the other big performers.

I'll start updating this more regularly now, promised.


Mamma Mia! has now outdone Hancock and become the biggest movie of the year in Germany...likely to stay this way until Quantum of Solace too.

The Dark Knight's run is pretty solid too. It's #6 of the year already and BY FAR the biggest Batman movie ever. It has gotten about three times the admissions that Batman Begins got in 2005 already.

The two openers both did well, killing the competition, but neither really opened to spectacular results. WALL-E's opening is higher than Toy Story's and Cars', but lower than all other Pixar openings in Germany. Ratatouille opened to 922,492 and The Incredibles to 750,960 admissions.

Weekend Estimates (October 2-5)


Thanks to a national holiday on Friday most movies stay even with last week or even increased!


WALL-E ~ 710,000 admissions (up 19% from last week!)
Der Baader Meinhof Komplex ~ 450,000 admissions
Burn after Reading ~ 325,000 admissions
The Love Guru ~ 60,000 admissions
Far Cry ~ 40,000 admissions

Burn after Reading, The Love Guru and Far Cry were the openers.

So, yeah, WALL-E fans can rejoice. I think 2.8+ million admissions is a lock for the film now.
