I think it is possible but first we have to wait for next weekend results as CLOUDY/MEATBALLS opens and takes away a couple of showtimes, plus weather forecast promises more snowstorms over the weekend...

Despite blizzards in many parts of Germany, AVATAR dropped just 12 % to an estimated 525,000 admissions - that's the second best 7th weekend ever and a new total of about 7.39m admissions...

In Euros the all-time list looks like this now:

1) 119m TITANIC
2) 99m JUNGLE BOOK
3) 82m LOTR1
4) 78m HP1
5) 75m LOTR2
6) 73m AVATAR

I haven't seen my theatre as full as it was tonight probably since that What Women Want/Hannibal weekend back in 2001.

Well, the drop might have been softened, but then again it has only had terrific drops here so far.

I am really sure now that 11 million admissions is happening (that would put it in the all-time Top 10 admissions-wise). Right now it's #31 al-time, but should be around #24 or #24 by the end of the weekend and will be #18 by the end of its next. Terrific legs. Its performance here is very very impressive.

Mark's site is the best source.

Here's Germany's all-time Top 100 (by all-time I mean 1968-now)

Well, it's a result of many many rereleases, the most recent one was last decade actually, in 2000. Even that one managed over 1,000,000 admissions.

You can see the rereleases breakdown here:

Thanks Lecter and Mark.

Wow for the Jungle Book that admissions is really eye-popping. Actually Top 3 movies have a real good difference between then and then it is really a matter of few people sometimes. Thus making it difficult for new movies to come between them and easier to breeze past them.

I did some numbers crunching and I think that Avatar will pass 10 million admissions here by the second weekend of March at latest, maybe even a week earlier.

How far will it go by the end of its run in Germany ? Is there a chance for entering Top 5 or crossing 12m admissions ?

A chance, yes, but rather unlikely. I think the most it can achieve is 11.5 million admissions and that probably only if it wins BP. Without that win, it'll be somewhere around 10.7-11 million.

BTW, mark, what are your thoughts on Valentine's Day? Marketing has been pretty good, but I feel like many romcoms slightly disappointed recently. It's Complicated is not the hit that previous Nancy Meyers films were and even The Proposal last year wasn't nearly as much of a breakout as it was in the US, having less admissions than Two Weeks Notice.

I think it will be pretty close - I see both in the 450,000-550,000 range... Problem is, I also see PERCY JACKSON as some sort of wild card...
Tomorrow will be an awful Monday for distributors and exhibitors as they have to figure out how to handle the three newcomers plus RECEP IVEDIK 3 and 7-8 movies still doing 100,000+ admissions...

I just don't get the overstuffed weekends at the moment.

I mean February 18th looks pretty bad as well for them. Just look at this:

The Lovely Bones (which seems to be getting a rather wide release from what I read)
Rock It (German High School Musical wannabe)
The Book of Eli
Invictus
Die Friseuse (new Doris Dörrie film)

Gonna be a slaughterhouse.
