Again, lucky to reach the 2m mark...

Oh, I forgot, the distributor is convinced that AUSTRALIA will reach 3m... (I'm not)

Post Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Nov 6-9 Actuals
Quantum of Solace delivered BY FAR the biggest opening weekend of the year, though Madagascar 2 has a chance to top that in December.

It also managed the biggest opening weekend for a James Bond movie, beating Casino Royale by over 300,000 admissions and just after 4 days it became the 18th-biggest movie of the year outdoing the total grosses of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and Wanted... By the end of its second weekend (it is currently on track to around 850,000 admissions, meaning a drop of roughly 50%), it will enter the Top 10 of the year at #7 or #6 and should become #1 of the year after 4-5 weeks.

WALL-E is still doing rather well and holding up. It won't tale long anymore until it outdoes Kung-Fu Panda, making Germany one of the few countries in which WALL-E managed that. Not surprising, however, as Ratatouille was HUGE here (#3 of 2007). Right now WALL-E is the 5th-biggest film of the year here, but it looks like it will have to settle for #6 as Madagascar 2 and QoS will outdo it.

Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis is turning into a leggy hit here as well. It looks like it will be able to stay flat in its third weekend. I think it can get up to 1 million admissions during its healthy run.

No way Madagascar will beat Bond's opening. No.way.

I'm a bit envy that Wall-E is doing better in Germany than here. I want it to be reverse.

That's TERRIFIC for Quantum of Solace. Its second weekend would still be the 5th-biggest opening weekend of 2008. The fact that it dropped less than 50% is just great and after 11 days it is already #6 of the year. I am sure it will get to 5.5+ million admissions now and will beat Casino Royale's total (and CR was pretty big here too).

WALL-E finally passed 3 million admissions and is now #5 of the year. It will take it 2-3 more weeks to outdo Kung-Fu Panda. I tink it will probably finish with around 3.3-3.4 million or so. Depends on how much Christmas will help it.

Very solid start for Accidental Husband.

Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis is turning into quite a sleeper here. It's locked for 1 million admissions and who knows how far it can get. WoM seems to be very good here too.

Mirrors is actually doing rather well here for a horror movie (most of those bomb here).

Lecter and Mark, what do you think about Inkheart which opens today? Has it any potential with Christmas ahead for becoming at least midlevel hit?

My prediction is 2m admissions, the average prediction by my readers is 1,685,676 which would definitely make it a midlevel hit...

You should also know that there are four previous Link novels made into (German) movies and they averaged close to a million admissions per movie...

I could very well see 2,5m+ admissions too.

If The Golden Compass could manage well above 2 million admissions, I'm sure so will Inkheart. It's a more popular book here.

Post Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Dec 4-7 Actuals
Madagascar 2's opening was as huge as expected. It opened 20% higher than the first Madagascar flick (and that was a huge hit in Germany, #2 of 2005, only behind Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire with over 6.7 million admissions). With Christmas around the corner and positive WoM this is gonna be equally big. It delivered the 4th-biggest opening weekend ever for an animated film (only behind Ice Age 2, The Simpsons and Finding Nemo) and the 2nd-biggest opening weekend of 2008 (behind Quantum of Solace). It will pretty soon become the #1 movie of 2008 and with no more biggies ahead, it will remain this way too. I think it's a lock for 5 million admissions and will likely pass 6 million too. However, it might fall short of passing the first film because of the family-oriented competition in December.

Quantum of Solace is dropping pretty quickly and is now tracking behind Goldeneye and The Woirld is Not Enough, however still ahead of Casino Royale. Unless it gets some holidays bumpo, 5 million is out of question which is pretty disappointing after its huge opening weekend. Right now we're looking at something around 4.8 million admissions here and #2 of 2008.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona delivered the best opening weekend ever for Woody Allen in Germany, beating Match Point. I don't think WoM is as good for it, but it should pass 500,000 admissions which is pretty solid for an Allen flick here.

Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis continues to be a big sleeper hit here, soon looking to pass 1 million admissions.

Mamma Mia! was simply a monster here. I don#t think any musical in future will ever outdl it here. Just a phenomenal performance.

WALL-E did do a bit worse than I expected, but still pretty well, outdoing Kuing-Fu Panda (something WAL-E failed to do in most other countries).

Burn After Reading's success still surprises me a bit. It really did well here.

Madagascar 2 is going VERY strong and should have no troubles passing 6 million admissions here.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona is not holding as well as Match Point, but for a Wody Allen film it is doing alright.

A disappointing start for Inkheart (the book is well-known here), but I think legs will make up for that.

Quantum of Solace is really having pretty bad legs and won't reach 5 million admissions. In fact, it'll be lucky to get to 4.8 million...

Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis is still very leggy. I could see it reaching around 1.3 million admissions. Very good for a French comedy here that is not based on any known material.
