4-Day

Cloverfield - $58M
27 Dresses - $16M (please bomb, ungrateful Heigl deserves nothing)
Mad Money - ???

hoping Cloverfield can break 60 over the 4 day. Atleast it will finally take out the Jan opening record. Star Wars has held that for over ten years.

Depending on how good the legs for 27 Dresses are (and I think they will be great - I've seen it and I have no doubt that W.O.M. will be great), we could potentially have two 100 Million grossers being released this weekend.

I think that might be stretching it. Only one film (Star Wars Special Edition in 1997) released in January has ever grossed over $100M.

Well Cloverfield seems to be a lock at least. I could see 27 Dresses going as high as 70-80 Million though without any problem.

You can add Black Hawk Down to that too (c'mon, it's really really limited December release doesn't count).

I am not sure if 27 Dresses will do that well. First of all they are having way to many SP for the films. Sp are mostly done to get word out on the film. Now they are doing another SP. WOM is that this film is nothing new nor a film to rush out and see. The reviews at rotten tomatoes are not looking good as well. It has 27% on rotten tomatoes. All these SP will take away money from the film and also putting this film out with another Chick Flick called Mad Money was stupid. That might be the reason why tracking is going down. I see a 14 million for a 4 day. I think this movie will do Because I said so numbers. It not like women are craving for a Chick Flick, they just had one called PS I Love You.

Uh, thanks for the exposition.

But, anyway, I am quite sure you are incorrect.

How do you know women aren't craving a chick flick? P.S. I Love You doing as well as it is despite ghastly reviews is probably an indication that they are craving one.

I've not done any of these in a long, long time...

Cloverfield: $27 million (4-day)
27 Dresses: $24 million (4-day)
Mad Money: $6.0 million (4-day)

True that. The women are certainly craving one and 27 Dresses looks like a fitting candidate. Unlike Mad Money, it also will work well as a date flick, so nothing to worry about as far as competition goes.

The reviews for it are far from awful though. They are decidedly mixed, with almost all of them praising Heigl. They say that its main problem is its predictability, which hasn't stopped a chick flick before.

And P.S., I Love You is incredibly mediocre ;)

I am sorry but praising somebody in a mediocre movie is not good. Look at The Golden Age. The big problem with this film is that we have seen it all befour. My Best Friend Wedding and the Wedding planner look just the same.

You act as if the fact that 27 Dresses isn't original will somehow stop it from doing well. Romcoms like this hardly ever stray from the formula.

True, but they do also do not have alot of SP. SP really hurt film boxoffice because alot of people see it then. Unless a film is great and is getting great WOM, SP do not work. 27 Dresses has had two SP and was pushed back a week. Also tracking keeps going down for the film, that makes me wonder if the SP are working. It is juts that we you have the star of Knocked up and the writter of The Devel wers prada working on the same film, one would hope for something better then a mediocre. All i saying is that they need to stop all these SP it let the movie just come out and show what it can do just like PS I Love You. I love Heigl, but she has to do more film like Knocked Up and less films like This and The Ringer if she really wonts to become a star. Going from The Ringer to Knocked up was a Step Up. Going from Knocked Up to 27 Dresses is a step down. I am a fan of hers and i just wont the best for her. there is to many stars out hear who settle for less just to make a Buck.

It's going to lose about $1m from its opening weekend because of the sneaks.

Wrong: Because in Knocked Up she pretty much played second fiddle to Rogen as far as the marketing and the selling point of the film goes. 27 Dresses has her in the lead of a major romcom. That is a step-up.
