It has been getting a bunch of advertising. On top of that, it looks like a fun, violent throwback to earlier action films ala Live Free and Die Hard. Plus, Stallone has goodwill from Rocky Balboa. I could easily see an opening near or surpassing 20M. |

i'm thinking like 15/45. decent for an old guy in a crappy pure-action flick. |

If it didn't look like so much of a joke (I wanna see it, but the trailer's corny as hell), yeah, it could've. But it'll just do decent numbers. |

Yeah it probably will do decently. Probably $18-$20m OW and a $45-$50m total. |

I think the big obstacle is that its Lion Gate thats handling the marketting and other than horror movies, they usually are a miss on action movies. Crank did do well but thats a different story |

Hopefully it will break out. Sly revived Rocky right so one can only hope he will return the favor with this franchise. |

As good as the movie itself looks, the marketing has been fairly atrocious. Im not as confident to say it will get a 25+ weekend because of that, but I think it can at least get a 7-8 opening day and a 17-22 opening weekend. So yea, I think it will certainly do decent. |

The marketing is supremely atrocious, which is sad because Lions Gate handled 310 to Yuma fairly well. Either that or Russell Crowe and Christian Bale sold the film with their names. $15 million opening weekend is looking more and more like a reality. |

Against Meet the Spartans, one can only hope so. I've seen a lot of TV spots for the film (granted they've been the same one's over and over again) so that has to help. At this point I think best case scenario is a second place finish behind Cloverfield with something like a $20 million opening, which is MTS is anything like Epic or Date Movie, it should be barely enough to beat it. That's looking less and less likely though. I'm hoping 20/50, but I'm thinking more along the lines of 16/45. Not that much of a difference, but as of right now (it could change if I think it's a piece of shit) I hope it makes it to $50 million. |

There was a press screening over here, I overheard a bit of talk about it. A guy from our sister mag said that this was the most violent film he had ever seen... |

Theeee.......Michael Savage gave it his Seal of Approval when he interviewed Stallone about it on Thursday I believe. I think it could surprise. Is there a really good action picture out right now anyway besides AVP? And by action, I mean blood and guts, heads blown off and chopped this and that. |

AVP-R is NOT a good action film. It barely qualifies as cinema. |
