 Jackass Closes Theater..... An owner of two houses in Hoopestown, ILL shut down both his places for two weeks.. " rather than showing drivel like Jackass and Beerfest"... he has since reopened...

It's like saying "I'd rather close my theater because I think the movies out are crap, even though one of them just pulled the biggest opening weekend in two months and gave every other film a significant boost. But it's okay, I don't need money."

I'm pretty sure he was saying that he would rather lose money than denegrate his theater with those films  Can't say I disagree necessarily.
I just hope the employees were paid vacation time or something.

his theater probably does little enough business so that he decided to take a little vacation during the slow season and used this as a sorry excuse to get away with it

He paid his employee... The small town with 8,500 people understand.. Theater owners in the 40's had some say in what was produced.. Obviosly I like the guy...

He could have shown something else besides those two titles, and stayed open... It's not like those were the only two movies he has a choice of showing.
