I think, after a couple weeks of dissapointments, that Talladega Nights is going to open huge.

Wha...is interest for Talladega Nights really that high? I mean I think it'll do well enough but not in the range of 40-50 million plus.

Talladega Nights $33 million
The Descent $6 million
Barnyard $5 million
The Night Listener $4 million

A real dumping ground this weekend, save for Talladega Nights. I suspect we have a bunch of derby killers on our hands, I mean potentially on the level of Slither or Doogal.

Has there been ANY marketing for Barnyard at all? I was just looking at a release schedule and figured it had been pushed back since I haven't heard a thing about it. The studios really need to rethink their CGI strategy, the glut of them this year has been enormous and there is severe market fatigue, which is leading to some big losers and lower grosses for the successful flicks.

Tracking is reportably high conducted by Jeffrey Wells. I think it was at 36% definate interest from urban audience alone. It has been in and out of yahoo buzz charts in early july time when comedies rarely track well at all on those charts. You already saw how yahoo buzz chart had a direct correlation with John Tucker must die. So yes 40 million is a lock

The TV spots I've seen for The Night Listener have been excellent. I think it could do pretty well with an adult crowd.

I think The Descent will do better than most are predicting. There are tons of TV spots which, imo, are pretty damn good. It doesn't hurt that they're saying it's from the studio that brought us Saw and Hostel, which were big hits (Even if I thought both sucked :p, especially Hostel). The critics quotes are cool too. I think it might open with around what 28 Days Later did.

I've seen several TV spots for Barnyard lately, mostly this weekend. I think it will do better than The Ant Bully. It looks cute and will appeal more to younger kids. It might end up another Valiant or Ant Bully, but I think it will do better.

Talladega Nights I've been feeling lately will be huge, especially since all of the other summer movies have been disappointing lately. It's time for something to break out, and I think this will be it.

MY CURRENT PREDICTIONS FOR THEM:

TALLADEGA NIGHTS - 52.3 MILLION
BARNYARD - 13 MILLION
THE NIGHT LISTENER - 10 MILLION
THE DESCENT - 9.8 MILLION

How are the tracking numbers for these movies anyway?

Talladega Nights 38.4 (not sure if Will Ferrell can have a $40 million opening opening after last year... Adam Sandler barely could and he had a hit last year)
Barnyard 15.8 (I think it looks funny and people are already quoting it)
The Descent 5.8 (most of the people who want to see this, already have thanks to import DVDs)
Night Listener 3.3 (this year's Human Stain)

These predictions that say The Descent will dissapoint because everyone who could have seen it already has are being ludicrously short sighted. This is an internet movie forum, we do not represent all horror movie fans, and there are a LOT of general audiences out there who will want to see a horror movie that have commercials raving about it as much as they are. Y'know, the more I think about it, the more I think The Descent is going to make even more then people here are saying. I remember almost all Hostel predictions a week before had it around 10-11 million tops. Granted, that film had amazing marketing and no competition, but I do think that people are assuming it'll dissapoint because it's an import, something you would never realize from the trailers and especially the TV spots.

No one saw The Cave last year and this looks like the same basic movie even though it may not be. It still looks the same in ads.

I think that LGF's marketing is a lot more saavy then Screen Gems by and large (Yes they've had High Tension but I really don't think that was their fault, not to mention it's as good a comparison to The Descent as Saw II.). This movie has the pedigree going for it. If people see enough quotes declaring it to be a horror classic (and every piece of adverteising has had them) it helps in a big way, ditto for saying it's from the people who made Hostel and Saw. Even if Hostel's WOM was horrible - and I'm really not convinced it was - it still makes it out to be a gory violent and intense movie, something I don't think The Cave had going for it. In my opinion, this is one of those cases where the R rating will actually help the film.

Descent's marketing actually makes it look like a pretty tense horror flick where as The Cave's marketing practically played it out as an action film.
