Constantine ![]() Release Date: February 18, 2005 Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures Director: Francis Lawrence Screenwriter: Kevin Brodbin, Frank Cappello Starring: Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Tilda Swinton, Gavin Rossdale, Djimon Hounsou, Shia LaBeouf, Peter Stormare Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Suspense Official Website: Constantinemovie.WarnerBros.com Plot Summary: John Constantine has been to hell and back. Born with a gift he didn't want, the ability to recognize the half-breed angels and demons that walk the earth in human camouflage, Constantine (Keanu Reeves) was driven to take his own life to escape the tormenting clarity of his vision. But he failed. Resuscitated against his will, he found himself cast back into the land of the living. Now, marked as an attempted suicide with a temporary lease on life, he patrols the earthly border between heaven and hell, hoping in vain to earn his way to salvation by waging war on the earthbound minions of evil. But Constantine is no saint. Increasingly disillusioned by the world around him and at odds with the one beyond, he's a hard-drinking, hard-living bitter hero who scorns the very idea of heroism. Constantine will fight to save your soul but he doesn't want your admiration or your thanks – and certainly not your sympathy. All he wants is a way out. When a desperate but skeptical police detective (Rachel Weisz as Angela Dodson) enlists his help in solving the mysterious death of her beloved twin sister, their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldy events, the two become inextricably involved and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost. "Constantine" is based on characters from the DC Comics/Vertigo Hellblazer Graphic Novels. Opening that Weekend: Son of the Mask (), Because of Winn-Dixie ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This movie definently looks incredible. The new trailer looks amazing. It's one of my most anticipated movies for next year. I'm hoping it can top $100 million, but it might have too dark of a feel to it for some people. Let's hope for the best. Here's the link to the new trailer if you haven't seen it yet. New Constantine Trailer! They need to change the title or 75% of people will think it's a movie about an emperor. |

Yeah, if most americans can't locate Iraq or Saudi Arabia on a world map, I don't think they know who Constantine was. |

I think there's a mixup. Apparently, President's Day weekend is not the same weekend as Valentine's Day this year, so this is getting released on President's Day weekend. It'll have a nice, 4-day weekend. Opening: $37 million (4-day), Total: $94.6 million |

Zingaling wrote: I have no idea. The first thing that came to my mind was that dumb store, Winn-Dixie. It's probably stupid. The title 'Because of Winn-Dixie', which stars Jeff Daniels, is in reference to a dog in the film. The dog was rescued at a grocery store, and when the girl who finds him is asked what his name is, she repeats the nearest word she can find, Winn-Dixie. That is the only connection to the grocery store chain. |

There's a LOT of emotion listed in the plot blurb. It would have worked well if the movie can generate sympathy for the Constantine character, but then they had to go cast Keanu Reeves. #-o Opening: $14M Total: $42M |

Zingaling wrote: Constantine is now rated R. I always thought it would be, though, but anyone want to change predictions? In fact, CONSTANTINE was shooting for a PG-13. When CONSTANTINE was given R rating, Warner Bros appealed the R rating to MPAA. Finally, the decision was upheld. |

I would have been dissapointed if it was PG-13. It's got such a dark feel to it, and with the subject matter, it would have been terrible with a PG-13. I wouldn't want to sacrifice good quality for box office total. |
