Will PIRATES 2 beat SPIDER-MAN 2's opening week record?
SPIDER-MAN 2 holds the opening week record with $192,085,360 followed closely by REVENGE OF THE SITH with $191,363,169.
Do you think that PIRATES 2 will set a new opening week record?

Easily
Would have voted 200m+ if I looked closer at the poll.

No. Spider-Man 2 essentially had the advantage of five weekend days in a row. Pirates 2 needs four $15m+ days this week, and I don't think it's gonna happen.

I think it will, but certainly not "easily." I think it will be really close, and POTC2 will pass Spiderman by a million or two if that.

3 20m+ days would get it there in 6 days with room to spare.
Oh, you edited it. heh.
Well, it certainly will average over 15m on the weekdays.

But I don't think it will. If you look at both Spider-Man 2 and Revenge of the Sith, Spidey peaked at $12m and Sith's high was $14m (and it didn't hit even $10m the rest of the week). I don't see Pirates 2 raising the bar that much.

In July schools are out. For Sith they were not. SM2 was coming off an 88m weekend.

Care to make another bet regarding Pirates, DP? Over/under say $195m for the first 7 days?

Provided the estimate for the weekend holds. I will adjust the prediction according to the actuals.

Spiderman 2 had the advantage of the extended fourth and a wed opening. RoTS had the advantage of having a wed opening at the cost of a slightly depressed weekend. Pirates will fall behind Sith today and will need to average 3-4 million a day on the weekdays.
I wouldn't say no way it will be close but it is at a disadvantage in terms of number of highest grossing days but a lot was offset by the huge opening weekend.

What do you want to get out of it? It looks like our first bet is going to come down to a few hundred grand.

Sure. How about two weeks? And I think that should go for the avatar bet as well, since we never really decided.
