If the $55m figure is correct for PIRATES' Friday gross, it needs another $45m to do $100m in two days - that of course, would be a first.

What do you think?

Well, it pretty certainly will. I don't see it dropping more than 15% on Saturday.

I think the real question is whether it will beat Spider-Man in two days  . As likely as it is to drop today, it only needs to rise 10% to do it.

No way. It will not rise because it most likely has $10 million worth of midnight screenings included in the $55 million number. Thje best case scenario for it, is to drop 8% on Saturday.

haha never thought of that. It's not going to do it...but one of the monsters next year has a shot at it. If Pirates 3 is significantly shorter (i.e. like under 110-120 mins), that might be able to do it.

If this damn movie has overall multiplier less than 3, I'll lose lots of interest in opening numbers.

If X3 can muster a drop of almost 30% in May, POTC2 could easily drop over 20% today.

That this is even a rational question is insane.

OT1H, Lecter makes a good point on the previews.
OTOH, Friday was a work day however light and today is not.

And the X factor - if it is close enough, one can almost guaruntee Disney will throw that number out there for the publicity (and adjust some money if needed after the fact to make it stick).

I think it'll be close, but Disney will fudge the numbers so that it barely does, sorta like was ROTS was just over $50M opening day.

It should be able to, although if it did make $12 in midnight screenings and Saturday simply repeats the non-midnight performance of Friday, then it would make only $98 million in the 2 days. Here's hoping for an increase today.

I think it will but it will be close. I see around a 15-20% drop on Sat depending on how large the midnight sales were. Anyone know when they will release that number??

It's about 98% certain, depending no how big exactly the midnights were (have we gotten a colid number yet?)

Yes, it will make it. Unlike X3 it won't drop too harshly, because it appeals to kids and families (in much greater numbers). I think it has a solid shot at 10-15% drop and could come in under 10%.
