So I know the whole forum is pirate mania right now. So im curious on what people think the third will do. Since the new one is looking at a 120+ opening. What do you guys think the third can open too.

I can't help but bring up the other scenaries in which this has happened. We have the famous Back to the Future 2 and 3, hannibal and Red Dragon, Matrix 2 and 3 and now Pirates 2 and 3. As with all of those cases, Pirates 2 could triple its last opening of 44 million.

With all those cases. The one prior isnt as well recieved as the original. However, though I dont think its a tragedy like Hannibal or Matrix 2, I still believe WOM has been shaky on this one. Were looking at a whole new bread of a film.

With hannibal we had a 30% drop in opening and a 44% drop in gross.
Back to the Future 3 had a 32% drop in opening and a 25% drop in gross
Matrix 3 had a 48% drop in opening and a 51% drop in gross.

Both Matrix and Lector films were Rated R and were released quickly after disappointing films.

I think the best case scenario is to look at Back to the Future Part 3, since for the most part they have a very similar demographic. I think Pirates wouldnt suffer as much, but its coming out less than a year later. I am seeing a 30% dropoff in opening. So if it makes 130 opening, I will predict a 91 million opening for Pirates 3.
