Hmm, I assume Friends with Money's Friday number just wasn't listed or it had a huge multiplier?

Great weekend for Silent Hill, though I'm not so sure if it can cross $50 million total. I think it could potentially join WASC as the second $20+ million opener to not make it, assuming the estimates hold.

Nice weekend for The Sentinel as well.

Pretty good for Silent Hill, but it's going to fall off the face of the earth immediately. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't even make it to 45.

The Sentinel actually did remarkably similiar to High Crimes, that Ashley Judd-Morgan Freeman thriller hat opened a few years ago.

I suppose it could have been worse for American Dreamz. Looks like it'll do better on video.

Moderate expansion for Friends With Money. The budget is low enough that it's already a hit.

Great for the Wild. Granted, with an $80 m budget, its still a mess. But that hold could at least help it get to $50 m, which is better than Valiant did last year...

It wouldn't surprise me if The Sentinel actually beats Silent Hill due to better legs.

It also still stuns me that Inside Man won't make it to $100 million. Its reviews and WoM seemed so great and it still didn't have the necessary legs to get to $100 million. It will pretty mjuch in the same area as Flightplan with around $90 million, give or take a million.

The Benchwarmers has a chance to become Rob Schndier's biggest movie with him as a lead and without Sandler. It has $60+ million locked up now. Sad because that means he'll get offered more roles. :(

Universal kinda screwed it up. It never got a real theater boost after it opened, which it should've. Hell it should've been in more theaters to begin with.

Yeah, it's baffling that of all Washington films, Out of Time is the one that opened in most theatres (3,076, I think) and is the lowest grossing of his recent nine as well, heh. Man on Fire, Inside Man, Training Day all opened in less than 3,000.

Wow, that Silent Hill multiplier seems so low... An 8.2 million opening day, 20.2 million weekend is a 2.46 multiplier, yikes.

How could it have been any worse for American Dreamz? The film is a complete bomb, especially considering its cast.

Silent Hill only has to match the awful multiplier of the first Resident Evil (2.26) to make it 45 million.

It's quite funny, the Wild's weekend multiplier went from a 2.30 last week, to close to 3.98 this week (doubled). Granted, it was based on the long weekend, but you don't see that type of performance everyday!

Interesting points in the article:

* Sony only paid 14 million for the rights to Silent Hill, making a sequel all the more likely.

* American Dreamz cost only 17 million.

Silent Hill will do better than people expect, I think. Word of mouth seems pretty good and the film has that creepy essence to it, creepy horror movies usually hold better than gory ones. It attracts a different kind of horror fan.

Most people seemed confused in the audience I saw it with. I doubt it'll do better than expected. It could still make $50 million, but I'm thinking it'll make around $47-48 million total.

They may have expected something more along the lines of the Resident Evil films and instead got an arty horror film focused more on atmosphere than anything else. In the hands of other directors, I'm sure it would have ended up more action-packed.

Artsy? No way, it wasnt that creepy, though it did try to, it will drop like a rock. I will say it is probably one of the more ambitious video game movies, but didnt deliver, the streak continues.

Meh, The Wild held extremely well, but it's not exactly surprising. Often when films come out a weekend or two after a big film steals it's audience opening weekend they have very good holds to make up for that. The legs will clearly be good like many Disney films, but I still think 50 million is a huge stretch. Either way, with that 80 million price tag, it's the first big CGI bomb (Valiant and Doogal never had a chance anyways, and can hardly be viewed as high profile)
