Post subject: | May Predictions! |
I know this is two months away, but this May is SO big, that it needs a thread now! ![]() May 5 Mission: Impossible 3 $70 m/$190 m House of Wax, Kingdom, and Crash were all wrong for the first weekend of May last year. People like fluff like this. I don't want this to do that well, but it seems like it will given WOTW hardly felt a dent w/ Cruise's annoying behavior. He's also expecting a baby around this film's release date. ![]() May 12 Goal! The Dream Begins (BV) $5 m/$14 m Just My Luck (Lindsay Lohan) $15 m/$48 m (Looks horrendous lately, but the movie looks ok). Poseidon $26 m/$73 m May 19 The Da Vinci Code $68 m/$295 m Over the Hedge $49 m/$205 m See No Evil $20/$51 m May 26 X-Men: The Last Stand $112 m (4days)/$235 m |

See No Evil is WWE's movie? I didn't really know what it was, I just assumed it was the regular gore horror movie like The Hills Have Eyes or whatever. |

GOAL completely flopped in Australia. SO anything over $10m. I see MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3 and DA VINCI CODE really bringing home the dough this month. I do expect X3 to open well, but to drop like flies even if it is decent. HEDGE could be a victim of CGI overload. And JUST MY LUCK may become a sleeper hit. |

May 5: An American Haunting - 5/14. A low budget horror film that won't set the world on fire, to say the least. M:I 3 - 60/210 million. Having a recent Oscar winner playing the baddie shouldn't hurt what was already destined to be big. May 12: Alpha Dog - 7/20. Justin Timberlake, Emile Hirsch, Bruce Willis, Sharon Stone, and Ben Foster star in a crime drama about the youngest person to ever appear on the "FBI's Ten Most Wanted" list, a drug dealer turned kidnapper Johnny Truelove. While it sounds intriguing, it isn't the type of film to do all that well with mainstream audiences. Goal! The Dream Begins - 4/10. British import than seems destined to flop in the land where Soccer is not very popular. Just My Luck - 15/50. Lindsay Lohan looks awful lately but still seems to have some pull with young audiences. Poseidon - 40/110. Needless remake that still should pull in decent numbers. May 19: The Da Vinci Code - 80/250. This film will be huge. Over the Hedge - 40/140. CGI film that should do decently but suffer from competition. See No Evil - 6/14. Lionsgate should move this up to April or else it will flop. May 26: X-Men: The Last Stand - 85/250. |

Anything above 5 million opening for See No Evil just looks way too high. I seriously think it will make less than Blood Rayne opening weekend. Not just because its a WWE film but its directed by a porn director |

May 5th: Am American Haunting (BOM estimates it at 2,000 theaters) 6/16 Mission Impossible 3 77/207 May 12th: Goal! The Dream Begins 3/10 Just My Luck 17/47 Poseidon 50/140 (Could go up or down big time depending on the final trailer coming next week) May 19th: The Da Vinci Code 80/230 Over the Hedge 40/145 (The huge amount of CGI movies has really made their event status decline.) See No Evil 9/21 (No matter how awful it is, this is LGF, and I bet they churn out some surprisingly strong TV spots) May 26th: X-Men: The Last Stand 90/110/230 I think all five of the big movies this month will do very well, but I don't think any will be as huge as they could've been due to the immense amount of competition. They've all been marketed well, although I think Dreamworks looks like it's somewhat dropping the ball on Over the Hedge, while WB is turning what could've been a bomb in Poseidon into an average-sized blockbuster (have you guys seen the final poster? I can't think of a better way they could have gone with it from a marketing standpoint.) |

That court case in London is really helping THE DA VINCI codes chances for awareness at least. Every article mentions the release date and Tom Hanks. Btw, It looks like one of the plantiff's arguements are starting to weaken considerably. |

Btw, It looks like one of the plantiff's arguements are starting to weaken considerably. That court case is such garbage. It is going to come down to the fact that they correctly referenced the book as a resource in the book itself, and they are not the only other authors that have written about the subject. It's a money grab, and Dan Brown should win. I dunno if he will win in Europe though. Europeans tend to want to nail Americans to the wall just for spite. |

I've thought it ever since I heard they were making it, Poseidon will not be this success that so many think it will. 5 B-list stars does not equal one A-list star. The wave has been overdone w/ the Perfect Storm, and there's actually something else to see this May. |
