Plot Outline: In the great nation of Emperor Penguins, deep in Antarctica, you're nobody unless you can sing—which is unfortunate for Mumble (Elijah Wood), who is the worst singer in the world. He is born dancing to his own tune... tap dancing.

Though Mumble's mom, Norma Jean (Nicole Kidman), thinks this little habit is cute, his dad, Memphis (Hugh Jackman), says it "just ain't penguin." Besides, they both know that, without a Heartsong, Mumble may never find true love.

As fate would have it, his one friend, Gloria (Brittany Murphy), happens to be the best singer around. Mumble and Gloria have a connection from the moment they hatch, but she struggles with his strange "hippity- hoppity" ways.

Mumble is just too different—especially for Noah the Elder (Hugo Weaving), the stern leader of Emperor Land, who ultimately casts him out of the community.

Away from home for the first time, Mumble meets a posse of decidedly un-Emperor-like penguins—the Adelie Amigos. Led by Ramon (Robin Williams), the Adelies instantly embrace Mumble's cool dance moves and invite him to party with them.

In Adelie Land, Mumble seeks the counsel of Lovelace the Guru (also voiced by Robin Williams), a crazy-feathered Rockhopper penguin who will answer any of life's questions for the price of a pebble.

Together with Lovelace and the Amigos, Mumble sets out across vast landscapes and, after some epic encounters, proves that by being true to yourself, you can make all the difference in the world.

November 17. The weekend before Thanksgiving.

I just noticed it's opening against another CGI movie (I think), Foodfight!.

Opening Weekend: $37 million
Total: $125 million

All of these computer-animated movies will tremendously hurt each other. The ones that succeed will be the ones with the story that teens and adults can enjoy. Right now, from just a dance sequence, I can't really tell if it's going to have smarter writing than the average computer-animated feature. Penguins, though, are hot right now, but not as much this winter. Robin Williams in CGI movie is a plus.

Foodfight will be lucky to break 20m, Happy Feet has nothing to worry about with that film

Hell the main cast member of the movie is Hilary Duff, BO poison jugding by how much her films have made. Happy Feets hype will ingulf Foodfight, the film has no chance they should move it

Excellent teaser, but Flushed Away opens two weeks before it and the overall CGI overload will hurt it a little.

Opening weekend - $51.5 million

Total gross - $208 million

We have CGI animated films opening wide every month this year, except February. I dont see this getting to $300 m unless it sweeps the Oscars.

It looks way too weird to be a major mainstream hit. Theres also the CGI overload, the competition(Flushed Away and Foodfight), and problems with the film itself. One of these problems is the fact that every single character looks exactly the same, and there's way too many of them. Part of the fun of Toy Story and such, were all the toys with their own identitys who people could attach to and call their favorite, T-Rex, Army-guys. Same thing with Incredibles, people liked each family member in their own way and they liked the different powers they had.

Overall, I think it will open slightly disappointing to my 23 mil-ish #, and have somewhat strong legs to 100 mil+.

i doubt a film thats a cgi cartoon about loveable little penguins that stars nicole kidman, hugh jackman, elijah wood, and robin williams and opens on harry potters usual date will gross anything under 150.

Opening against Casino Royale hurts its OW, but legs should be very good. Its 2nd weekend actually could be around 40m(11% drop).

How the Grinch STole Christmas was a similar family-film that opened the week before Thanksgiving. It had a 5.4% drop on its 2nd weekend(thanksgiving weekend) and it had a multiplier of 4.7. I won't expect as good as legs because Grinch recived a real good Christmas boost cause it was a Christmas movie, but def. a multiplier above 4.0.

I obviously do not agree, this film will OWN Casino Royale.

I don't know why Happy Feet and Casino Royale are being compared, they'll strongly co-exist, just like the last JB and HP2 did in 2002.

How will Happy Feet be affected by Casino Royale?

That's absurd.

Casino Royale will take away any non-family auidence. Family auidence alone don't power films like IA2, Nemo, Incredibles, etc to a 60m+ OW.

Chicken Little, Robots, and Shark Tale are great examples of what happend to CGI films when it doesn't connect to non-family audience that much. Sure they are big but they are no where near 250m+ big.

The Day After Tomorrow and Shrek 2.

Harry Potter and Die Another Day.

Minority Report and Lilo & Stitch.

All did well, despite having competition from a movie of a different audience. Your argument doesn't make sense. This is the whole point of counter-programming.

So explain what happened when HP2 and JB 20 came out. HP did $260 m +, Bond did $160 m. Thanksgiving is a very busy season, where people see LOTS of movies. I would also think the new Bond, which is aiming to be more gritty, could end up getting a more adult rating anyway...they can perfectly co-exist...

Chicken Little had poor legs for a CGI film because it sucked. Robots looked odd, and Shark Tale did very well, but you can't expect $250 m + grosses for a CGI film in October! Also, Chicken Little wasn't Pixar, and not as established CGI wise, so to compare to Pixar's works is not the best situation. Also, Chicken Little opened a little under Ice Age, and IA2 was a sequel. The examples used just can't fairly be compared to make your point that somehow Casino Royale will hurt Happy Feet (which could pull a G rating).

Are you kidding, Magnus? Lilo & Stitch was a 2D animated film that opened to $35 million while Ice Age is a computer animated film that opened to just $11 million more. No one expected Lilo & Stitch to make $40 million opening weekend, and to think Minority Report actually hurt it is kind of...stupid.

I think Happy Feet will open around $50 million as well, but it's not because of Casino Royale.
