Release Date: July 28, 2006 Studio: Universal Pictures Director: Michael Mann Screenwriter: Michael Mann Starring: Jamie Foxx, Colin Farrell, Gong Li, Naomie Harris, Ciarán Hinds, Justin Theroux Genre: Action, Crime, Drama Plot Summary: [spoil]The cocaine cowboys of the '80s are gone, but Miami's Casablanca allure, the undercover cops and the attitudes of Michael Mann's culturally influential television series have been enhanced by time in the feature film version of "Miami Vice". Ricardo Tubbs (Academy Award® winner Jamie Foxx of Ray, Jarhead) is urbane and dead smart. He lives with Bronx-born intel analyst Trudy, played by British actress Naomie Harris ("28 Days Later," upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean" II and III), as they work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders. Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell of "S.W.A.T.," "The New World") [to the untrained eye, his presentation may seem unorthodox, but procedurally he is sound] is charismatic and flirtatious untilâ€â€while undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida groupâ€â€he gets romantically entangled with Isabella, the Chinese-Cuban wife of an arms and drugs trafficker. Isabella is played by the Chinese actress Gong Li ("Raise the Red Lantern," "Memoirs of a Geisha"). The best undercover identity is oneself with the volume turned up and restraint unplugged. The intensity of this case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge where identity and fabrication become blurred, where cop and player become oneâ€â€especially for Crockett in his romance with Isabella and for Tubbs in the provocation of an assault on those he loves. "Miami Vice," as a large-scale feature film, liberates what is adult, dangerous and alluring about working deeply undercover…especially when Crockett and Tubbs go to where their badges don’t count…[/spoil] Info above copied from http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=8238 Trailer: http://www.miamivice.com/main.html |

This is R, I don't think it's going to have a huge opening. Still, with that release date and the director I'm anticipating some damn good legs. Think 34/115 |

Why does everyone think it's going to do so much better than Collateral? Just wondering. |

Zingaling wrote: Why does everyone think it's going to do so much better than Collateral? Just wondering. Because it has the series brand name as from what I know it has been very popuar in the US. Also, it should be a bit more of a fun/action flick than Collateral. Thus a better opening weekend at least. |

You sure its rated R, moviedude? I didnt see it as being rated R on the trailer. I think this would be a first time a tv show transformed into a movie has gotten a rated R (not counting those Tales from the Crypt movies) |

The only thing is that pretty much all of Mann's flicks have been rated R thus far. |

The only thing is that pretty much all of Mann's flicks have been rated R thus far. It was a show from network tv. Even X-files which had quite a bit of gore on tv never received that rating, I highly doubt that Mann will deviate too much from the tv show to make it rated R. Also I meant to edit my last post to say, no tv show from public tv turned movie has gotten a rated R since South Park & Tales from the Crypt are from cable tv About Michael Mann's being rated R, Im pretty sure The Insider was PG-13 |

The Insider was rated R. And I think Miami Vice will be, too. That's the vibe I got from the teaser. |

It looks like a definite R from the teaserm ala Collateral. |

Yeah, but this doesn't look quite like the teaser. Mann isn't a sell out, he isn't going to water the film down to get a different MPAA rating. And I certainly couldn't imagine him keeping the "fucks" under 3 times spoken total, the violence toned down, etc. |
