It is amazing considering there's been virtuallly no hype and bad marketing for this thus far, worse than KONG's marketing and hype which only exists on the internet..

I think the marketing has been pretty damn good.. I'm certainly pumped to see it, even though I hardly cared about the project a few months ago.

Yes a great theater. My favorite is still Studio 28. I do not know it is history(theater 1 still feels like an old time movie house) or just that it is close to my house.

Did you see Chicken Little in 3-D at Celebration South?

From HSX:

Yowch. Today was massive Narnia group sales finalization day for the pre-open before midnight rentals.
-- notfabio, Dec 1, 20:32
36,487 $7 tickets sold to churches for just 12/8 evening for just Major Theatre Chain.

That's just over a quarter of a million dollars.

By comparsion, for Major Theatre Chain, BATMAN BEGINS sold 15,960 for its midnights. FANTASTIC FOUR sold 23,400 tickets. HARRY POTTER 4 sold 28,661 tickets for its midnights.

This does not include the general public screenings at midnight.

This is huge.

I agree. mary is looking good on this one. The marketing hasn't been that impressive, but the grass-root campaign is apparently working.

In case anyone couldn't tell, a lot of churches are getting behind this film, similar to what was done with The Passion of the Christ. Narnia also has a lot more crossover appeal so this could be big.

Not sure yet though. ;)

The Passion comparison is what mary suggested will happen all along and what I never bought into. My feeling was that it was so much easier to sell to churches and the christian community when your title has "Christ" or "Gospel" in it. Narnia is more much a fantasy film that I thought people wouldn't make the religious link so quickly and easily. Look like I underestimated it.

And unlike massive online bookings of Star Wars, Harry Potter, or even Fantastic Four, church bookings don't show up on moviefone, for example, and I had wondered if it is really on its way to an over $60M opening, how come it still hasn't shown up there yet.

This movie looks like it will kick ass.

The ape movie may be trampled by this if this movie performs anything like Passion.

It's still not going to be the next Passion of the Christ, but I'd say $200 million is looking more and more likely.

xiayun, Narnia has in fact been on moviefone floating on and off for a while. It was up there last weekend.

That was random occurance not triggered by consistent online advance sale but other things like trailers and ads that caused sudden increase in awareness and interest.
