Dropping from C to D+ with 3 more votes is really weird. Even all 3 are F, the average still doesn't work out. What I suspect is that Yahoo is doing clean up of the reviews every 2 hours, so the first hour we see big increase, and then the second hour Yahoo filtered out some of the F's and A+'s, as well as including all the new reviews that came in during that hour, so the total increase for that hour is small and may even be negative, although the grade could change quite a bit.

Makes sense. I hadn't thought of that.

The ratio for I Heart Huckabees should be smaller to a film with similar theater count. Before today, in limited release, it had 354 reviews with a total gross of $2,905,296 for a ratio of 121.85. I think its ratio today should be similar to Garden State. Still, it needs to at least get to 100.

Before GS went wide it had a total ratio of just over 210. That decreased by about 30% due to the expansion. I Heart Huchabees is having an even more dramatic expansion, but even if the ratio reduction is similar, the new ratio would be about 85 for today. I think that's more or less what we will see from it.

Wow, ComingSoon.net is going to be pretty close on Surviving Christmas. I think they predicted less than 5 million opening.

The Grudge is doing pretty well, it seems.

I can't believe how horrible Surviving Chritsmas is going!

DP does it better. :) 7 hours left, and it doesn't look good for Surviving Christmas. It needs about 20 per hour to get to 300, which I think it will just get to. That translate to 2M with my ratio prediction earlier. However, the grade is horrible, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a ratio of 200 or higher for a 1.2-1.5M opening day.

Basically, if it doesn't have the night increase (30-50 range) to lower the ratio, it's dead in the water.

Thank you.

Man, that's pretty darn bad! I mean this movie has some stars and it opened in 2750 theatres and it is probably going to make like $4 million this weekend and around $10 million in total!

hehe xiayun, I haven't been right more often then you in the past. Don't be so humble.

Anyway, with a lower theater count then I thought it was getting, I still have the same ratio projection due to the TC being offset by the grade. So, I'd say about 2.2-2.3 with 340 reviews. However, xiayun is right, it could be well under 2m due to the grade. However, the genre doesn't tend to have the highest ratios, so 3m might just be possible as well. In other words, I think this movie is somewhat difficult to predict.

The Grudge should get about 1450 reviews. With a ratio of around 100-130 that would be 11m-14.5m

I expect I Heart Huckabees to get 105 reviews with good increases into the night. That would be about 1.24m Friday. Maybe I'm wrong about the ratio reduction though. It could be over 100, with a number of about $800,000.

It didnt scare me one bit,It bored me almost to tears.I took my 12 year old sister and she also said it was crap,The film tried to hard to get scares.

SPOilers!!!!!

One thing that really annoyed me was that in the supposed scary parts the director cuts away to fast in some scenes, and he uses Catboy to damn much.Everyone in the theatre starting laughing when the annoying groul started. The film consisted in this:
1.Catboy mewoing
2.The dead woman spirit crawling around
3.A couple of flashbacks
4.The grouling

In the security camera scene everyone started laughing(most anyway),One lady next to me said that it looked lkike the ring(and i cant blame her,the scene did look like the ring).

Its the third worst film ive seen this year.

I think the ratio for the Grudge will be at the high end of its genre. I'm still looking at a 10M opening day. So the average prediction of 25M looks to be right on target.

You can't be serious. I would die if that were true.

Looks like The Grudge might turn out as this year's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Yeah, it could be at the higher end of the genre. Still 175 or so is about as high as I think it could go. That would still be 8.3 with 1450 reviews.

I'm going with a bit of a frontloaded pattern in predicting 1450. It could be easily 1600.

We will see but it seems to be doing very well. :)

I was actually looking forward to The Grudge...the trailer looks very freaky and Ring-ish.

Two great increases in a row for The Grudge, and we should expect 3 more hours of 100+ increase. 10M is looking more and more likely.
