I am not claiming that, just a higher opening weekend. Harry Potter 3's opening weekend DID beat the previous two.

Well, I think that's because of the summer season.

I'm in as well. I doubt this will beat Azkaban though, but it'll be close. Maybe a 235-240 million total.

I don't think so. The consistency of the opening PTA's is there. The PTA of OS dropped in comparison to SS's PTA by less than 3%. If COS was to be released in 3,900 theatres, it'd have opened to over $93 million.

Hmm, those would be absolutely horrible legs, The Matrix Reloaed-like. With such total and an opening of around $95 million, it'd give it a multiplier of 2.5. In the holiday season, especially with the Thanksgiving weekend being its 2nd weekend and all and with no LOTR movie and three full weeks till Narnia that's nearly impossible. COS finished with a mutliplier of 2.95 despite heavy competition from TTT in December and the Thanksgiving weekend being its third, not its second weekend.

It's definitely possible. Also, opening in November will allow it to have a better weekend multiplier. Remember when Prisoner of Azkaban opened with $38M on Friday (reported at 40M on that Saturday morning), and everybody was so sure it would break 100M for the weekend but forgot it's summer time? On the other hand, if the Goblet of Fire can open with 38M, then it will definitely break 100M for the weekend because when the first two opened in November, one increased 3.7% on Saturday, while the other increased 15.5%. Goblet of Fire's Saturday increase will be much closer to 15.5% than 3.7% since the first HP was so highly anticipated and had its Friday more frontloaded. Basically, it will need the first HP's Friday and second HP's weekend multiplier to reach 95M, and I think that's very much doable.

As for the total gross issue, I think the run of this one will be very similar to the one of COS. Due to the higher opening weekend, however, I see a higher total gross. I expect something along the lines of $270-280 million.

I used to read AICN's reviews, but really, I don't trust those whatsoever, not until maybe 3-4 weeks before the movie's release.

That's what I expect. Exactly.

well, according to the early reviews it is 2 1/2 hours. They cut out all of the SPEW stuff, and most of the classes, besides Defense Against The Dark Arts. However, they also cut the Quidditch World Cup, which I hope they correct by the time it's released. Sounds like Newell did a hell of a job though, following in Cauron's footsteps rather than Columbus', with more humor though. Mad Eye Moody sounds like he could be Jack Sparrow-like.

$97M opening. I'm in.

They cut out the Quidditch World Cup!?! Urggh. That's ridiculous. This film has officially gone down a notch for me.

Anyways, I'm in the "club".

PEACE, Mike ;)

Every single AICN review stated that World Cup is part of the movie and I heard about its filming, so don't worry, Mike. It'll be in there. What won't be in it is the entire SPEW stuff (and Winky & Dobby of course).

I would havereally liked for this one to be a 180 minutes movie, but it appears to be around 150 minutes...

I'd like to have at least 40 minutes devoted to the third task and the following graveyard scene.

Should've been more clearer on that, I suppose. They said they had the World Cup, but only the beginning of it. Then they are back in the tent.

Actually, about three other people predicted under $245 million before you did.

Suppose to be the darkest one of the bunch, might not bode well for the BO.

Of course it's darker. Each one so far has been almost exponentially darker than the previous. You could track it with a bar graph.

Okay, let's make a bet.

$250 million is the line...

Wanna offer the conditions?
