Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Achieves 11th Week @ #1
Calm down mate, that's just a prediction I made after watching the dub trailer :p Anything is possible, it can earn much more than that as China is the biggest asian market right now,btw some update on overseas collection. "In Thailand, the film opened last Thursday, November 10, and earned 22,996,714 baht (about US$649,056) in four days. In Hong Kong, the film opened last Friday on November 11, and earned HK$6,149,917 (about US$ 792,806) in three days. The film opened in Taiwan on October 21 and earned NT$64 million (about US$2 million) in its first week at #1. As of October 31, it has earned NT$ 52,909,581 (about US$1.666 million) in Taipei alone. The film will open in the United Kingdom and Australia on November 24, in China on December 2, in Malaysia on December 8, in France on December 28, and in South Korea on January 5." Warner Bros. has a good record with live-action manga/anime adaptations, most recently the Rurouni Kenshin trilogy, so we'll see. It is really hard for live action to be compared to the original medium (manga). In addition, it's FMA, one of the best anime/ manga ever. (It's one of my fave too). So never expected anything.. The first two movies of Death Note are quite good, though. Rurouni Kenshin still quite far below the original. I also like the adaptation of Shinobi, although the original manga was far better too.

Does Your Name have any major competition from now until the end of December?

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Achieves 11th Week @ #1
YN got the top result for ticket sold yesterday, and chances are good that today would be the same. Fantastic beast will be out on Wednesday though, so perhaps this is the last week of YN domination???
edit: looking at mimorin's number i'm 90% sure Your Name is going to repeat weekend number one, which might be the last one, I don't know.. So this will make it the film's 12th non-consecutive weekend at no. 1. The only thing i'm unsure about is whether its number increase or not from last weekend's. If it is lower, it wouldn't be much (less than 5%), I think.

Regardless of how good or bad the new film is, most of the HP's fans are going to watch it anyway and there isn't much competition right now, so it should top the box office atleast for a couple of weeks and with Japanese dub, it certainly getting wide release. Can it emerge as the highest grossing foreign film of the year in Japan? Meanwhile, Your name on the track to $200million

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Achieves 11th Week @ #1
I think you're misunderstanding Japanese audiences. Most of the Lord of the Rings fans didn't see The Hobbit... it actually declined over 80%. Fantastic Beasts is just unlikely to post anywhere close to Harry Potter numbers I feel, especially the early films. There are many examples of spin-offs or films that otherwise revisit concluded franchises disappointing in the market, or at least, experiencing severe drops-offs compared to the main franchise. Online signs aren't very good either, which is worrying being just a few days away from release. I don't think Fantastic Beasts will follow the same disastrous fate as The Hobbit, largely due to the core Potter base, but a significant drop-off is still likely. I think it's also very important to realize that every Harry Potter film from the first until the seventh decline around 15% with each installment. And Deathly Hallows - Part 2, while finally achieving an increase in the franchise, only bested Deathly Hallows - Part 1's admissions. There was undeniable evidence that interest in the franchise decline year after year, so the fanbase is probably a fraction of what it once was, even 5 years ago.

I'll have this weekend's estimates up soon.
As expected, Your Name. claims its 12th week atop the box office (almost flat with last week!) in its thirteenth week in release.

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Does It Again; 12th Week @ #
Haha I just notice the difference right now, seems like people lost interest with each installment over the years, but as you said there must be enough fans which would give it a decent start Btw, what's your prediction for it? Yeah,I really don't get Japanese audiences e at all

Re: Japan Box Office: Weekend Estimates (11/19-20)
(C) 2016「君の名は。」製作委員会Weekend Estimates (11/19-20)01 (01) ¥251,000,000 ($2.3 million), -03%, ¥18,950,000,000 ($183.8 million), Your Name. WK4 05 (05) ¥74,000,000 ($670,000), -27%, ¥1,300,000,000 ($12.4 million), Inferno (Sony) WK4 06 (---) ¥65,000,000 ($590,000), 0, ¥65,000,000 ($590,000), Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin IV (Shochiku) NEW 07 (09) ¥61,000,000 ($555,000), +28%, ¥150,000,000 ($1.4 million), In This Corner of the World (Tokyo Theaters, Co.) WK2 08 (06) ¥57,000,000 ($520,000), -29%, ¥450,000,000 ($4.1 million), Drowning Love (Gaga) WK3 09 (---) ¥55,000,000 ($500,000), 0, ¥55,000,000 ($500,000), St. Youth (Kadokawa) NEW 10 (07) ¥52,000,000 ($470,000), -23%, ¥540,000,000 ($5.1 million), Pretty Cure! Miraculous Transformation! Cure Mofurun! (Toei) WK3Not much to talk about this weekend; it was simply your typical slow mid-November weekend.
>Your Name. achieves an incredible twelfth non-consecutive week atop the box office in its thirteenth week in release, and posted an amazing hold in the process. Its estimated thirteenth weekend is the third biggest of all-time, only behind Frozen's and Spirited Away's thirteenth weekends.
After thirteen weeks in release, the film has sold over 14.5 million admissions, becoming the seventh most-attended film of all-time. It's now less than 1 million admissions away from surpassing Howl's Moving Castle's 15.5 million admissions to become the sixth most attended film of all-time, and 1.7 million admissions away from breaking into the Top 5 by passing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's 16.2 million admissions.
Makoto Shinkai's remarkable success isn't showing signs of slowing down yet, and rather than crawling to that ¥20 billion milestone, and becoming only the fifth film to ever reach that mark, it's going to comfortable exceed it. I'd project a total somewhere around ¥22 billion ($210 million) with over 16.5 million admissions at this time.

Although Spirited away will remain unbeatable in domestic gross, but there's a high chance for Your name to dethrone it as the highest worldwide gross. Can't deny the fact, it's Shinkai's era now

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Does It Again; 12th Week @ #
So far, it's debuted at #1 in the four markets it's been released in outside of Japan, and is posting good to excellent numbers (even became the highest grossing Japanese film in Taiwan) everywhere.
It'll be released in the UK on November 24th. The UK is usually a fair market for animated Japanese films, and tickets have been on sale for months, so it's a potential top market. Austrailia also gets it on November 24th.
China receives it on December 2nd. It's quite rare for a Japanese film to receive a release in China, so there might be a lot of money to be earned there.
France is a good market for Japanese films, so a solid gross should be expected there when it opens on December 28th.
It won the Special Distinction and Audience Awards at the Bucheon Festival in Korea, becoming the first film to ever win both awards. It opens in South Korea on January 5th, so I'd expect some strong returns there.
If it can breakout in China, or one of the major non-Asian markets, I could easily see a $300 million+ tally. It'll "only" need $85/90 million outside of Japan.

Yes, you're right and Funimation already push it for Oscar, so a nomination would be beneficial for its initial run in USA, but it's highly unlikely for it to be winning as Disney got the upper hand with three top tier films and then there's also kubo, red turtle. Surprisingly Zootopia is also a contender for best Picture, haha. Till now, Your name opened in small Asian markets excluding Japan and despite staying at top position the numbers aren't extraordinary, but if it somehow crack into top 5 in China then there's a assurity of $30 million+ from there alone and by miles, it's the biggest Asian market right now.

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Does It Again; 12th Week @ #
I've been saying that YN could potentially passed that SA's worldwide gross for weeks The only note for it to achieve that it has to be released in China. If not, then, the chance is going to drop huge. I've compared grosses of Doraemon stand by me from Taiwan, Hongkong and China and from arithmetic only, there's a high chance that YN will achieve at least US$30 million in China (my prediction for Taiwan final is close to US$10 million). Of course, there's many other factors such as promotion, number of screens etc. There's Corpse or the guy who expert at China box office for that XD. edit: aand it's official. Again 1st this week, Your Name, just as Corpse's forecast and my raw prediction. http://www.kogyotsushin.com/archives/weekendedit again: updated total is 18.98b, slightly bigger. So with today, it surely be 19b.

Nice. It's awesome that more Japanese films are being released in China, and doing quite well, too!
I'll have the Weekend Actuals posted soon.

The tsunami warning that was issued early this morning after the 7.4 earthquake hit has, thankfully, been downgraded to an advisory. Let's hope don't escalate from there, and hopefully the plants are unaffected.

(Toei) WK3>Your Name. achieved its incredible twelfth non-consecutive week atop the box office in its thirteenth week in release, and dropped a minuscule 2% in the process. Its thirteenth weekend is the third biggest of all-time, only behind Frozen's and Spirited Away's thirteenth weekends.
After thirteen weeks in release the film has sold 14,588,086 admissions, becoming the seventh most-attended film of all-time. It's likely to beat both.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens on Wednesday, which is a national holiday and Ladies' Day, so expect a significant first day.
