Post Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Achieves 11th Week @ #1
You even gather the population data, nice :D
Anyway, thanks for the ultra complete summary this time.

By the look of it, it is almost certain that yn will reach that 20b figure, considering avatar and how'l, having a speed lower than it, manage to add around 2b before the end of their run. So, yn should conveniently pass it.

It's still not guaranteed that it'll surpass HP figure though, and if it does, I take it'll be next year.

btw, eventhough Frozen is the highest multiplier, Spirited Away still had 6b before it ended (after 12th week), while Frozen around 4b. And Frozen 12th weekend figure was also much higher than that of SA's...

Well according to this site: http://dorama.info/jp/drama/d_box_offic ... =1589&ud=0
and this site: http://www.kogyotsushin.com/archives/weekend/

YN officially confirm on top again, as Corpse's analysis.
Congratz again.. still no number though.

And from the news, Your Name also has quite a success in Taiwan. When i checked out the chart, it was only 2nd behind Dr. Strange at this month BO. Not bad,..

edit:
the actual total for YN is out (18.49 B).

Despite collecting over $7 million in the 12th weekend, I wonder how ' Frozen' failed to surpass even Titanic, btw most of the live-action films had their initial run over after this time.
Your name got sheer luck with 'Doctor strange' 'Arrival' 'Moana' postponed for next year, only competitor right now is 'Fantastic Beasts' which will be releasing on 23rd November as Corpse said, beside Taiwan, it also opened in Honk Kong and Thailand, while Korea, China on awaiting list.
Although, I don't think it can make much in Western countries as it'll be distributed by Funimation but a $30 million overseas collection looks good atm.

One more thing, any figures on anime films for DVD/blu-ray sales?

Rumor has it, Miyazaki will turn Boro the Caterpillar into a feature film instead of a short, to be released in 2019. That would be huge.

Today (monday) at mimorin, as of 7 pm, Your Name gain about 40% increase from last week... When i checked, it isn't a holiday today and the other films from last week had a usual drop, which they should be.. Wonder if this is related to some kind of news or something else..

Edit:

http://www.appledaily.com.tw/appledaily ... /37443633/
Some news from Taiwan.
If someone could translate this, it would be nice
It is mentioned that as of last week, YN has grabbed 187 Million (i think the currency refer to NT $, roughly US $ 5.8 Million), and becoming the highest grossing Japan film of all time there. It seems that the film was just opened 2-3 weeks at that time. Certainly not bad at all.

I wonder why Miyazaki retired,if he was so passionate about his work and won't mind spending his last few years doing so
But now,he's getting lot of hatred over the internet, not enough support from rest of the studio and even I doubt,Japanese are willing to watch him for once last time;especially if it's a CG project.
All the odds are against him atm, let's see how far it goes.

40% increase mainly due to lack of decent films this week.

There was no school yesterday, so any film with appeal to young kids or students benefited. Your Name., while playing to most demographics, does skew slightly more toward teens/young adults (college aged).

Even Sausage Party, which somehow got a limited release in Japan, was up yesterday. I bet those parents/kids were surprised. Seth Rogen isn't a known name in the market, so I know there has to be some confusion going on.

Weekend Actuals will be posted soon.

>Your Name., in its twelfth weekend in release, once again claims the #1 spot and achieves its eleventh non-consecutive week atop the box office. Its twelth weekend is also the third biggest of all-time, behind only Frozen and Spirited Away.

Makoto Shinkai's epic success is closing in on the All-Time Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films, and will probably crack the All-Time Top 5 by the end of the month when it surpasses Princess Mononoke and perhaps Howl's Moving Castle as well. After twelve weeks in release, its admissions has climbed to 14,209,346, making it the seventh most-attended film of all-time by surpassing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Princess Mononoke on Sunday.

>Museum came close to opening in first place, but ultimately had to settle for a second place debut. That debut was pretty good, though, with the Hiroshi Otomo directed detective film selling 180,217 admissions over the weekend on 332 screens.

>Jack Reacher: Never Go Back improved over estimates, and comes in 21% below the opening weekend of the first film. The sequel sold 140,189 admissions over the weekend frame, and 193,637 admissions since Friday across 427 screens. Tom Cruise continues to prove his drawing power in a market where he's been able a top draw for 30 years now.

>Death Note: Light Up the New World still can't seem to stabilize and will probably fall behind 2006's first Death Note after next weekend, much less have any chance at reaching the heights of two sequels before it. However... it'll still break ¥2 billion ($20 million) without any problem, and possibly end up closer to ¥2.5 billion ($25 million). So despite turning out to be the lowest-grossing film in the franchise, which wasn't unexpected, it'll finish with a respectable number.

Frozen was further able to add $40 million even after topping the 12th weekend, while 'Your name' being in the third place should at least collect $25-30 million from now on and which will eventually make it to top four, you're right.
Btw,it seems like there's no data on Titanic weekly figures

Im not even looking at Frozen, Howl and Avatar managed about 2b after 12th weekend, with speed lower than YN, weekend.. I didn't compare weekday yet, though. And Dec still has yet to come.

Anyway, from reddit source, YN also triumphed in its opening weekend in Thailand, double Inferno opening. the 2nd country where the film's "fairly" wide release opening gain success.

Yes and no. :P I've actually been meaning to post it for a couple weeks, but I seem to have gotten it mixed up with the non-consecutive weeks at #1. I'll correct it and post it tonight.

Everyone else's similar questions:

Your Name. is likely to break ¥20 billion, so it's going to become at least the fifth biggest film of all-time. From there, it'll only need ¥300 million to surpass Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone... and it should, so fourth biggest film of all-time is looking good.

Not enough weekly data available to record other major performers (Titanic, Princess Mononoke, Jurassic Park, E.T., Antarctica).

Your Name. will likely earn a twelfth week at #1, but Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them should dethrone it and prevent it from reclaiming the #1 spot in two weeks... unless it pulls a Hobbit in the market (online signs are just "okay" at the moment), then things could get interesting.

It was dethroned by Death Note from Oct. 29-Nov. 4, thus losing its 10th full week. But it reclaimed the #1 spot on Nov. 5th, and has since been #1 for the weekly/weekend periods.

Although, I don't think it can make much in Western countries as it'll be distributed by Funimation but a $30 million overseas collection looks good atm.

In Taiwan alone, it's already around $7 million. Combined with other countries/ region (thailand, hong kong, singapore) i think it's close to $10 million at the moment. We haven't even see China & North America yet (it'll be opened in China on Dec 2nd, i think). France, England, Australia & Ireland also will open in near time.

My prediction is $40-50 million. No.. $50 million minimum.
