Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name. On Track to Reclaim #1 Spot
DN doesn't looking good, it's just second weekend and such drops, Your name on the other hand is quite steady and should probably sustain another month. More or less, there isn't any upcoming Japanese films which could compete with this two right now, but Fantastic Beasts surely will, it's highly anticipated and considering how well HP films has done, It can be a game changer. I wonder why Doctor Strange is postponed for next year.

I think Fantastic Beasts will pull a Hobbit in Japan.

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name. On Track to Reclaim #1 Spot
Did you mean the Yen figure? Its around 17.97 Billion Yen, which is likely to be 18 Billion after today's. Keep it going, Shinkai sensei. I have watched the film, and even with low visual resolution, I can say, the film worth each penny! Wondrous story told in a beautiful way . Engaging experience. Not too much on the gloomy side, though, in a good way.... this time .

I'm talking about yen to dollars conversion, btw kimi no Na wa offically submitted for Oscar Consideration. With such stiff competition, which five will make it? kubo and the two strings along with zootopia are bound to get nominated anyway, that already rules out two places.

(Toei) WK2 07 (07) ¥46,244,500 ($448,000), -35%, ¥253,333,500 ($2.4 million), Bridget Jones's Baby (Toho-Towa) WK2 08 (06) ¥45,004,900 ($437,000), -38%, ¥884,510,000 ($8.6 million), Somebody (Toho) WK4 09 (05) ¥44,043,600 ($428,000), -41%, ¥492,256,600 ($4.7 million), Ushijima the Loan Shark - Finale (SPD) WK3 10 (12) ¥37,295,700 ($362,000), -16%, ¥1,023,069,000 ($9.9 million), High & Low: The Red Rain (Shochiku) WK4>Your Name. reclaims the #1 spot, achieving its tenth non-consecutive week atop the weekend box office. After eleven weeks in release, Makoto Shinkai's remarkable success has sold over 13.8 million admissions and is still going strong.
At its current pace, its chances of exceeding ¥20 billion ($195 million+) with over 15 million admissions are looking pretty darn good.
>Death Note: Light Up the New World falls to second place after successfully snapping Your Name's reign atop the box office last week. After two weeks in release, it's outpacing the 2006 Death Note by 12%, though its second weekend happens to be down 7% in comparison and I expect it'll eventually fall behind overall, too. Still, it seems in fine condition to manage a gross around ¥2.5 billion ($25 million), and while that's the lowest in the series, it's a respectable result.
>The openers were duds, unsurprising for this time of year, with Drowning Love being the only one capable of opening above ¥100 million ($1 million), selling 83,555 admissions across 154 screens.

What are the films that would be coming up at the end of this week? When will Fantastic Beast come out in Japan?

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Back @ #1, Climbs to #7 All-
Finally got to see Your Name with my wife and mom on my last full day here in Tokyo. We all really enjoyed it, and it's my current favorite movie of the year. I feel like only Arrival has a chance of topping it, but we'll see My mom is going to even try to drag my dad to go see it, and he's only seen a Japanese movie once in theaters, which was Spirited Away

The only contenders for the top spot this weekend are Museum, a local Warner Bros. detective film directed by Hiroshi Otomo and starring Shun Oguri, and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Museum has potential to debut atop the box office. It probably has to do at least ¥250 million; that's a bit challenging, but doable. And Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is unlikely to debut at #1, but it should perform decently since Cruise is still a draw in Japan, and the first film did fair business. I'd say the chances of Your Name. staying on top once again, for an eleventh non-consecutive week, are pretty good. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens on Wednesday, November 23rd.

NEW 04 (02) ¥176,000,000 ($1.7 million), -37%, ¥1,625,000,000 ($15.4 million), Death Note: Light Up the New World (Warner Bros.) WK3 05 (03) ¥114,000,000 ($1.1 million), -34%, ¥1,125,000,000 ($10.8 million), Inferno (Sony) WK3 06 (06) ¥61,000,000 ($570,000), -31%, ¥450,000,000 ($4.3 million), Pretty Cure! Miraculous Transformation! Cure Mofurun! (Toei) WK3 07 (04) ¥55,000,000 ($520,000), -48%, ¥250,000,000 ($2.3 million), Drowning Love (Gaga) WK2 08 (05) ¥53,000,000 ($500,000), -41%, ¥225,000,000 ($2.1 million), Will You Marry My Wife? (Toho) WK2 09 (---) ¥35,000,000 ($330,000), 0, ¥35,000,000 ($330,000), Kin-iro Mosaic: Pretty Days (Showgate) NEW 10 (07) ¥32,000,000 ($305,000), -30%, ¥350,000,000 ($3.3 million), Bridget Jones's Baby (Toho-Towa) WK3The battle for the top spot might be somewhat close between the Top 3 films this weekend but Your Name. should add yet another week atop the box office to its incredible run so far, and if it does, it'll achieve its eleventh non-consecutive week at #1.
Also after this weekend, it'll have exceeded 14 million admissions, making it the eighth most-attended film of all-time (surpassing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), and it'll be very close to becoming the seventh most-attended film of all-time as well (likely <50,000 shy of Princess Mononoke).
>Jack Reacher: Never Go Back got off to a decent first day yesterday, earning around ¥50/55 million ($500,000). Its pre-sales for Saturday, and its morning/afternoon ticket sales, are pretty good, too, so it should achieve a debut comfortably above ¥200 million. By comparison, the first film opened with ¥240 million, so the sequel seems to be maintaining a strong retention rate.
Tom Cruise is quite arguably the biggest Hollywood draw of all-time in Japan (only Johnny Depp, and to a much lesser extent - lack of blockbuster material - Angelina Jolie compare), and he continues to bring in audiences to see his films in the market to this day.
>Museum doesn't appear to be doing quite as well as anticipated (popular director and lead actor, and also a proven genre - detective/thriller), but it still has a fair shot at reaching the ¥200 million mark over the weekend and that's perfectly okay for a film this time of year.

Re: Japan Box Office: Weekend Estimates (11/12-13)
(C) 2016「君の名は。」製作委員会Weekend Estimates (11/12-13)01 (01) ¥256,000,000 ($2.4 million), -14%, ¥18,450,000,000 ($179.3 million), Your Name. Miraculous Transformation! Cure Mofurun! (Toei) WK3 08 (05) ¥58,000,000 ($550,000), -35%, ¥225,000,000 ($2.1 million), Will You Marry My Wife? (Toho) WK2 09 (---) ¥30,000,000 ($285,000), 0, ¥30,000,000 ($285,000), Golden Orchestra (Phantom Film) NEW 10 (07) ¥27,000,000 ($255,000), -41%, ¥340,000,000 ($3.2 million), Bridget Jones's Baby (Toho-Towa) WK3>Your Name., in its twelfth weekend in release, once again claims the #1 spot and achieves its eleventh non-consecutive week atop the box office. Its twelth weekend is also the third or fourth biggest of all-time, depending on the actual figure. Makoto Shinkai's epic success is closing in on the All-Time Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films, and will probably crack the All-Time Top 5 by the end of the month when it surpasses Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle.
And after twelve weeks in release, its estimated admissions has climbed to ~14.18 million, making it the eighth most-attended film of all-time (surpassing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), and less than 20,000 away from also overtaking Princess Mononoke to become the seventh most-attended film of all-time; which it'll likely accomplish on Monday.
There isn't anything notable opening next weekend, so it's very likely to remain at #1 in its thirteenth week and achieve a twelfth non-consecutive week atop the box office, as well.
>Museum turned out to be pretty backloaded as its pre-sales and morning/afternoon ticket sales were significantly lower than the strong evening/night performance it had over the weekend. So rather than maybe reaching ¥200 million over the weekend, it's very likely to have now exceeded the mark, which is a good result for anything released in early November.
>Jack Reacher: Never Go Back came in a bit below expectations, but only because it ended up playing well in the morning/afternoon compared to its evening/night business. That's a strong indicator that it skewed quite old, so its avg. ticket price might take a hit as a result. It's going to come in 25/30% below the original film, most likely, but the opening is still fairly decent and I wouldn't consider it disappointing.
>Death Note: Light Up the New World still can't seem to stabilize and will probably fall behind 2006's first Death Note after next weekend, much less have any chance at reaching the heights of two sequels before it. However... it'll still break ¥2 billion ($20 million) without any problem, and possibly end up closer to ¥2.5 billion ($25 million). So despite turning out to be the lowest-grossing film in the franchise, which wasn't unexpected, it'll finish with a respectable number.

At what point would you expect it to crack the 20 billion figure?

Re: Japan Box Office: Your Name Achieves 11th Week @ #1
It's looking like late December to me. It should still be in the Top 10 then, albeit near the bottom, as it approaches its twentieth week in release.
Look for December 23rd, The Emperor's Birthday, to be the day of, or the weekend thereafter (December 24-25) to be a likely date range that it reaches the ¥20 billion milestone. Christmas isn't a holiday in Japan, but it's still a decent day for the box office.
