 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
I don't think it will get there. Might do 100 Million though depending on how audiences like it.

I've got to start saving Chippy's posts regarding this film. Just too funny.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
I'm really excited for this even though I think there's a huge chance it disappoints as Luhrmann is hit and miss for me. Could easily go either way. Am loving the snippets of music I've heard though, save for that Fergie song. The Florence + the Machine song is just amazing. http://www.gq.com/blogs/the-feed/2013/0 ... track.html Now that Lana Del Rey song needs to leak in its entirety.

Yeah, I'm certainly feeling over 30 now. Maybe 35. There seems to be a lot of interest in the film.

$40m+, I think. Marketing is great for it.

WB have totally mastered the use of music in advertising.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
I don't know about $40M+, but $30M+ is looking really good. I'm surprised at how good the marketing is during the Playoffs.
Smart decision by WB to not completely aim it a female audiences, but also make it look appealing to guys. The music choices are very interesting as well.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
No actor can secure an opening of above $24m per film, and this film only has its male star as the sole attraction.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
Mega star Leonardo Dicaprio starring as one the most famous fictional characters ever created in one of the most popular American fictional novels ever written opening in May with 3D?
I would be STUNNED - and I mean electric chair caliber shock - if this opened 40 million.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
1. DiCaprio's not that big. 2. The character is not one of the most famous fictional characters ever. 3. The book is only the most popular (based on sales) because it's been around for ages and because it was bought by schools in their hundreds. Not because it was "loved". 4. It's a period-looking borefest opening in May = huge 2nd weekend drop. 5. It has 3D...which is as much of a detraction as an attraction nowadays in the US.

We already had this discussion. 2. One of the most known fictional book characters, ever. 3. That is why the book is popular. But it is loved by most that have read it. 4. Zzzz.... Not even close. 5. Which will only ADD to the gross.

Why am I not surprised Algren is trying to downplay the institution known as The Great Gatsby novel?

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
Anyone who doesn't think this is hitting $100 million is kidding themselves at this point IMO. Buzz has picked up significantly in the past few weeks - I've been seeing nonstop TV spots and the anticipation for the film's soundtrack as well is only helping it build momentum.

 Re: The Great Gatsby Predictions
Opening 5/3 IRNM3 - 160.0 Opening 5/10 GATSB - 45.0WEPEP - 22.0 Opening 5/17 TREK2 - 75.0 Opening 5/22 (4 day totals) HNOV3 - 100.0 FAST6 - 100.0 EPIC - 35.0 Yowza. I guess $40M+ isn't too hard to believe after all. Buzz will only continue to build from here on out, but I really can't see it opening lower than $30M. It has ALOT going for it.

The TV spots have been pretty great. Not gonna get my hopes up too much but I think a 40 million opening would be awesome.

I think this will get to $30m but $40m is still questionable.
