Reminds me of Elizabethtown. I guess the studio realized they don't quite have an Oscar contender on their hands.

I've actually been seeing quite a lot of ads and spots for Rent, and people I've been talking to want to see it. I could see it having a not half-bad run.

Some interesting news that Libs and xia might be interested in. It appears that Memoirs of a Geisha has been pushed back to a December 23rd release date instead of going wide on the 9th.
http://sonypictures.com/movies/memoirsofageisha/site/
I'll update it when I see some more confirmations, but it's official site isn't likely to have it's date wrong.

Yeah, comingsoon also confirmed that Memoirs of a Geisha has been pushed back a couple of weeks to December 23rd. This is definitely a confidence move from Sony/Columbia. They must be quite happy with the latest screening results that they are willing to go head-to-head against Munich.

Or...they're running for their lives from the behemoth known as Syriana.
I'll make the change.

I think RENT and GEISHA look like two of the year's best films. I hope both are smash successes.

Yeah, it seems obvious to me that Sony are giving RENT some breathing space. However, it will be interesting to see how wide is wide.

Doesn't matter to me when it is opening, I'm going 11/21. ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/winks.gif)

BOM is reporting 2,500+ theatres for the opening.

Will Memoirs of a Geisha open wide on December 23rd? Because if so, it's going to get crushed by the other releases. The weekend is way too overcrowded.

I had a ticket to go see a screening of that a few weeks ago. I skipped it though, sounds retarded.

The official site says "nationwide", but 500-1000 theaters could also mean nationwide. We'll have to wait and see.

This looks putrid. For those of you that don't know what it is, it's a snowboarding documentary.

I dunno, I doubt I'll see it but I thought it looked interesting. And if it really is going wide, I could actually see it having a very respectable run for a documentary. You can thank the eye candy and narrative structure for that one.

Maybe the only reason I hold the opinion I do is that the theatre I go to has a stake in the film and therefore attached its trailer to every single film that plays there, I'm talking EVERY SINGLE ONE.

Oh man, that just kills it for me, I hate it when they do that. I was so sick of The Longest Yard trailer by the time the movie came out, but Regal actually had the trailer play (sometimes TWICE) in front of every movie from late April to it's opening.
