Even if everything goes right, it won't take the NC-17 records from Showgirls.

You say this now, but when the cut with Chewie and Lupita's love scene comes out...

Do I read this correctly: before the film has opened it has sold more tickets on Fandango than any movie ever during their entire time on Fandango?

That's how I read it too. :noway:

But that's nuts.

On the other hand, if they just mean the tickets prior to a film's release, then it's just non-news since everyone knows that anyway.

No, Star Wars pre-sales were higher than total sales for any other movie's ENTIRE run - you read it right. That's how insane we're talking.

Just comparing pre-sales, it did over quadruple the record.

A lot of this is helped by people buying for the week of Xmas.

O pointed out, not sure if anyone else did yet, that this weekend will have the highest ever overall market increase from one weekend to the next.

Another random stat:

SW looks like it could average $60 K per theater if it pulls off $250 m +. The most # of theaters a film has been in and achieved such a feat has been a whopping 31, Blair Witch in 1999.

Grand Budapest did $55 K+ in 66 theaters.
Paranormal Activity did $49 K in 160 theaters as did JW in 4274 theaters.

$60 K per theater average. No one's done it in 31+ theaters or more except SW if it gets to $250 m+, which is doing it in 4100!

Phew! I mean obviously $238M is monsterous. I would have been just a teeny tiny bit disappointed if it didn't beat Jurassic's Fri-Sun proper and get the attendance record as well.
