What's the film about?

Here is its IMDb page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1533117/. It's Director/Actor Jiang Wen's (also someone I really like and admire) latest film and gathered some of the Chinese biggest stars. The film also has some political undertone like Devils on the Doorstep, one of his previous films, and its utter popularity is causing some late reactions from Chinese authority. Its long term box office prospect could very well be affected as a result.

In its opening four days in Chinese cinemas, Jiang Wen's (姜文) Let the Bullets Fly (讓子彈飛) made RMB181.5 million ($27.3 million) setting a new record for a local film.

In July, Feng Xiaogang's (馮小剛) Aftershock (唐山大地震), which also opened on a Thursday, made RMB180 million ($27 million) in its opening four days. It ended its run with RMB647.8 million ($97 million).

Bullets faces competition today with the opening of Feng's latest film, If You are the One 2 (非誠勿擾2) starring Ge You (葛優) and Shu Qi (舒淇). The original film made RMB314 million ($47.2 million) on release in Dec 2008.

The second highest grossing film at China's box office last week was Chen Kaige's (陳凱歌) Sacrifice (趙氏孤兒) with RMB37 million ($5.6 million). After 16 days in cinemas, it has made RMB184.6 million ($27.7 million).

Kevin Chu's (朱延平) Just Call Me Nobody (大笑江湖), the early winner at the December box office, made RMB22.7 million ($3.4 million) last week for a current gross of RMB154.6 million ($23.2 million).

After 31 days in theaters, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 has made RMB221.1 million ($33.2 million).

Grosses in China just keep getting bigger and bigger. In 2 years time, $50m will be reached by most of the big blockbusters, and the uber ones easily over $75m. Huge :funny:

A record setting week. Two films earned over 200m yuan for the week, the first time ever. Let the bullets Fly has passed 400m yuan total, and If You Are the One 2, Feng Xiaogang's latest film, got over 200m yuan in it's first 5 days.

Post Re: China Box Office (incredible start for Let the Bullets F
Feng Xiaogang's If You are the One 2 topped the box office in China last week, narrowly ahead of Jiang Wen's Let the Bullets Fly.

In the five days since its Wednesday opening, One had made RMB209.6 million ($31.7 million) by Sunday night. Bullets, which had more admissions at a lower average ticket price made RMB200.8 million ($30.3 million).

Together the two films represented 95% of the RMB431.4 million ($65.2 million) spent on cinema tickets last week. This compares to RMB188.7 million ($28.5 million) in ticket sales the same week one year ago.

New release, low-budget horror Midnight Beating directed by Zhang Jiabei and starring Simon Yam and Francis Ng, made RMB10.4 million ($1.6 million) in three days.

Chen Kaige's Sacrifice and Kevin Chu's Just Call Me Nobody made RMB7.3 million ($1.1 million) and RMB3.3 million ($0.5 million) respectively. The historical drama and anarchic comedy, both in their fourth week in cinemas, have made RMB191.9 million ($29 million) and RMB157.9 million ($23.8 million) respectively.

After eleven days in cinemas, Let the Bullets Fly has taken RMB382.3 million ($58.7 million). The box office record for a local film is Feng's Aftershock with RMB647.8 million ($97.8 million).

'Let The Bullets Fly' sounds like a movie I'd watch just based on the title. How can you go wrong?

Another outstanding hold for Let the Bullets Fly, down only 24% last week. $100m is certain.

Narnia 1: 25.04m yuan opening, 61m yuan total
Narnia 2: 27m yuan opening, 82m yuan total
Narnia 3: 42m yuan

Should reach 100m yuan ($15m). Not sure how far beyond that.

Yes, 02/13. I don't expect it to do that well, probably around Sherlock Holmes' number.
