Boy the midnights really threw me, they were really disappointing, but it looks like Hobbit is heading for 263-267 final total. AUJ made 25 from this point with slightly better holds.

I put part 3 in the 220 range as of now. Would have been sub 200 if it stayed in summer.

The last one will see an uptick in gross. 300 domestic and 1.1b global.

I agree - - my prediction is $223m.

I think TABA can easily be the highest grossing of the three films. For many reasons


1. We have finale factor. Not only is this the last Hobbit movie, but really the last Middle Earth movie in general. WB don't have the rights for anything else. So they need to play up that angle in marketing

2. Battles. Neither AUJ or DOS had large epic battles between two armies like the Battle of Helm's Deep or Pelennor Fields. TABA will have two. The Battle of Dol Guldur and the Battle of the Five Armies


3. TABA looks to have far less competition than DOS. Only Annie, Into the Woods and Night at the Museum 3. TABA also opens the week right before the holidays and not a week before so it doesn't have to deal with a week of shitty weekdays. In fact it is the same date ROTK opened on in 2003.


Honestly, there is a whole potential of audience members they can get back to watch this movie. WB just needs to play their cards right. Honestly, they have done a poor job of making the Hobbit movies feel like real "Event" movies compared to the marketing they have done for other films. Or other blockbusters in general.

There and Back Again will probably not make $300m, but it will surely make more than The Desolation of Smaug. It's the final film afterall. I know these films aren't the events that the LOTRs were, but it's still the final part of a well known and somwhat liked trilogy.
