Sub-60 million weekend for THG would be underwhelming for sure

I'll trust Variety/Gitesh over Nikki.

Why? Nikki has access to Rentrak. Does Gitesh?

I have no idea, but his track record seems to be better.

Nikki's estimate is the same that she had today at 1pm, except the her weekend figure went DOWN $1m. Strikes me as odd.

Very strong 2nd Friday

The film will also hold well on Saturday as this film is a draw on that day as we all know it got over 50 million dollars last Saturday.

This Saturday will be around 26-29 million.

So with 21 million a mid 60 2nd weekend is assured.

Frankly its looking around 65-70 million at this rate.

60 million is assured.

FRIDAY 9:30 PM, 3RD UPDATE: There’s dissension among my sources over just how big Lionsgate’s holdover The Hunger Games will be this weekend despite two major releases opening against it. It’s another huge weekend for the North American box office. Here are results for the Top Five with numbers continuing to refine later tonight:

1. The Hunger Games (Lionsgate) Week 2 [4,137 Theaters]
Est Friday $24M , Est Weekend $75M

2. Wrath Of The Titans (Warner Bros) NEW [3,545 Theaters]
Est Friday $11.2M, Est Weekend $29M

3. Mirror Mirror (Relativity) NEW [3,603 Theaters]
Est Friday $6.4M, Est Weekend $22.0M

4. 21 Jump Street (Sony) Week 3 [3,148 Theaters]
Est Friday $4.4M, Est Weekend $11M

5. Dr Seuss’ The Lorax (Universal) Week 5 [3,264 Theaters]
Est Friday $2.1M, Est Weekend $8.5M

Well THG is about to set some records if this holds true

Biggest 2nd Friday and a good chance at beating Spider Man 1 decade long record for biggest 2nd Saturday and also perhaps biggest 2nd weekend.

Nikki updated her Friday estimate to 24 million. Should lock up the biggest second weekend ever, no?

If $24 million holds, it could dip below 50% for the weekend. Just needs a 3.2 IM, which would also be enough to beat the second weekend record.

If THG does indeed do that well that will be an amazing hold.

TITANS should have moved. In the right spot it could have opened above 40 Million, IMO.

LOL, she goes from a lot smaller than Variety/BOG to a LOT higher than them.

I'll stick with the latter guys, but damn that would be amazing.

Lets say 20-24 is the range.

However I would love to see that 2nd number.

The last time a film had a solid 2nd weekend was Alice back in 2010.

$24m Friday would mean a $80m weekend! That'd put $500m in play.

Yeah I think even with such a large Friday it will perform like the Spider Man films and Alice and get a massive Saturday around 28-32 million.

Also, if $24 million would hold, it would mean BJ himself underpredicted it again. lol. What is going on.

This should be good for Hunger Games though because this obviously indicates it'll go up to $23-24M Friday.

She changed her numbers again :funny:

Her sources must be really clueless when it comes to Box Office.
