Shyamalan has said in interviews that this is going to be a very meditative, deep, E.T.-esque picture about the essence of innocense.
I do not get that feeling from the marketing.

TV spots have actually been pretty good, they're definitley going for the signature Shamalyan approach. I'll say 27/74 for now.

This time during the finals they showed an improved spot, alot of the same stuff, but also added a couple affective scenes. One cool scene I remember is a wolf that looked like it was made out of grass.

I think this is going to suffer immensely from his absolute shit film last time. I think there will be hardcore Shyamalan fans' but not enough to make it a big film. 22/65

I agree and now with this new trailer - so much more of the movie is coming into focus - before it was like what is this about?
Anyway, I disagree with those talking about mis-marketing > I think this trailer shows enough for starters.

I was watching signs on sunday and was so disgusted with the trailer I saw which is totally opposite of the trailers that were initially released. First for it being a completely different tone and implying a differnt type of film and second for trying to reveal as much as possible. I would have preferred the first trailer and slightly expanding on that and leaving the audience to discover the rest rather than trying to show so many extra pieces of the film that you didn't even have the impression nor idea of when watching the first trailer.
Boo Boo Boo for slightly spoiling my anticipation for the film.

I gotta say, those are some awsome tv spots. I really hope this isnt some of that grade A false marketing cause it looks awsome. Something that will bring alot of people out to see the film is the curiosity factor, it's again a very secretive film.

Sweet, that first one (with the girl's voice) is awesome.
I was anticipating this irregardless. Shyamalan is superb. I only care about the marketing because I want Shyamalan's films to continue to be financially viable so I can continue to see great films from him.
PEACE, Mike.

i dont see this dyig away at all. EVERYONE thinks its gonna suck due to the village, so the expectations are increddibly low. oi think itll blw past em. 30 million opener with a multiplier of 5+ n m night is huge again. hes made his ghost movie. hes made his alien movie. now he is making his monster movie.

Those are some pretty good spots. One of the problem with the full-length trailer was the deep voiceover, which didn't really go with the film. But they fixed that - the little girl's voice is pretty creepy and fits perfectly. This marketing could be false - I thought this film was more a light fantasy than a dark horror - and that could cause some Village-like WOM. It doesn't matter to me - I loved The Village - but it could kill the legs. My new prediction:
35/95

Excellent TV spots. Loved the first one with the girl's voice. It fits the creepy atmosphere. I really hope WB is not trying to fool us like Disney did. My anticipation for the movie did not really grow because... this is Shyamalan. I really hope this crosses $100 million.

I think Shyamalan's name can still bring a lot of people to this movie, even after the Village. It wont have as big an opening as The Village but it could have better legs
OW: 40 million
Total(if it is well received): 130+ million
Total(if not well received): 100 million

The marketing is taking a new angle it seems:
SHYAMALAN BLASTS DISNEY EXECS IN NEW BOOK
Friday, June 23 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A new book, The Man Who Heard Voices: Or, How M. Night Shyamalan Risked His Career on a Fairy Tale, due to be published on July 20, will describe director Shyamalan's conflict with Disney studio executives and his decision to leave the company that had produced his successfully thrillers, beginning with 1999's The Sixth Sense, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Friday). The book, by Sports Illustrated writer Michael Bamberger, is reportedly particularly tough on Disney production President Nina Jacobson, quoting Shyamalan as saying that he "had witnessed the decay of her creative vision right before his own wide-open eyes." Later Shyamalan says that over the years, he had concluded that Disney "no longer valued individualism ... no longer valued fighters." Eventually he left the studio after Jacobson and others assailed his script for Lady in the Water, which was eventually produced by Warner Bros. and is due to be released on July 21.
The main reason now I'll probably see this film is to see why Disney didn't want to distribute it in the first place.

I'm pretty sure Disney will be the financial winner. If they hated the script that much it probably means WOM will be awful again. Alexander and Catwoman were 2004's biggest stinkers across the board.

I liked it just fine. Not my favorite from M.N.S., but I liked it. I know many in the same boat as myself too.
