American audiences are so use to using the same style over and over again, that when something original hits them, they run.

...so all horror films are good??

A big chunk of this movie resembles Ben Affleck's Phantoms. This movie is anything but original.

Yeah, except the plot is actually very different from Phantoms (Even then, it's being faithful to the source material) and the two cannot be compared visually. Silent Hill was a blast. It offers some truly horrifying imagery and while the screenplay could use some work, the film is entertaining overall.

At my theater today.

Silent Hill (this is playing in the two 575 seaters and a 400 seater)
12:00 - 33
12:45 - 40
1:30 - 47

4:00 - 80

8:45 - Sold Out (400 seater)
10:00 - 443
10:45 - 397
11:40 - 286
(Apperently, it dropped a bit from yesterday as we couldn't sell out in the 575 seaters tonight)

Sentinel (two 275 seaters, and 240 seater)
12:15 - 35
1:15 - 39
2:15 - 69
3:15 - 97
4:15 - 43
5:00 - 56
5:50 - 75
7:10 - 98
7:45 - 65
8:30 - 142
9:55 - 112
10:35 - 43
11:15 - 37
(Believe it or not, this dropped a bit too. It sold out the 9:55 yesterday, but today, it didn't even come close to selling out).

Amercian Dreamz (175 seater).
1:10 - 25
4:10 - 53
7:00 - 55
9:50 - 83

7:25 - 32
9:50 - 27
(Yawn)

Holdovers.

Scary Movie 4 sold out the 8:15 (175 seater), and the 8:45 (160 seater). The shows 400 seaters only got 1/3 full. The increase was not that big here.

Ice Age however, increase big time here. The matinee shows averaged 50 people among 10 shows, and the 8 nighttime shows averaged 70 people. The peak show hit 100.

The Wild averaged 42 people among it's 6 matinee shows, and as for the two night shows, the 7:25 got 74 people and the 9:40 got 50 people.

Benchwarmers sold out the 7:20 (160 seater), 7:55 (95 seater), 9:30 (160 seater), and the 10:20 (95 seater). Whoa.

La Majur De Mi Hermano was still popular here, as it was pulling in people at night. The 7:30 show got 70% full and the 10:15 show got 80% full (both 190 seaters).

Take the Lead sold out the 5:40 and 8:25 show (95 seaters).

Inside Man near sold out the 8:20 show (110 seater), and got 2/3 capacity for the 11:25 show.

Phat Girlz sold only 21 tickets among it's two showtimes. Time is up for this one.

Thank You for Smoking got 60% full for the 8:10 and 10:40 show (110 seater).

Stay Alive got 1/3 full (155 seater) for the 8:00 show.

ATL's peak show hit 35 people, which shows that it's time is up was well.

Failure to Lanch is also running out of steam. The peak show hit only 26 people.

Lucky Number Slevin sold out the 10:30 show (95 seater), though the rest didn't do much.

Same for V for Vendetta. It sold out the 7:55 (95 seater) without much else for the other shows.

She's the Man's peak show hit 35 people (bye bye).

The Hills Have Eyes sole show got 40 people.

And finally, Akeelah and the Bee sneak preview attracted only 37 people, which shows what kind of potential this movie really has.

All in all, after a great Friday, Saturday was lower than anticipated. Business increased only 18%, mostly because of the two openers.

American Dreamz was actually sold out at the 5-ish show I was at last night. A little too late, I suppose, but it's possible it could indeed have a big multiplier.

This movie is not entertaining. This is one of the most boring movies I have seen in a long time. The only "excitement" was the scene where the female version of Pat Robertson had to spilt. ( ). Other than that this was pure garbage.

Phantoms was at least interesting.

The Sentinel
3:55 PM 80% in a 500 seater
4/23/06

Trailers:

DVC
Poseidon
The Omen
Pathfinder

Movie:

The movie is a very well made thriller. The performances are uniformly solid. Kim Basinger looks gorgeous even at 52.
