Re: HK: Battleship shifts release; Bourne Legacy out in summ

Ok for Underworld. Solid for This Means War. Average for Safe House. Disappointing for Hugo. Mr. & Mrs. Gambler is doing good so far this weekend.

It was short-lived but it looks like this will be the last weekend where I'll be giving out weekend projections/estimates. Variety and HK Film Art website are the only 2 (that I know of) that publishes full week totals (instead of up to Sunday with BOM/Mysinablog). Unfortunately, Variety has blocked access to non-subscribers and official weekly estimates from the HK film website are hardly ever updated on time. The only film that stood out to me was Love. So far, it's been a hit in all places it was released. Underworld 4 had a discouraging opening weekend. 1m probably will not happen. This Means War had a nice drop. Apparently, it had OK WOM here. I heard people say that it was funny. Safe House opened to average numbers. Hugo was the big loser this weekend. Terrible for it. It's entirely possible it could miss the top 5 if Mr. & Mrs. Gambler had a solid weekend increase.

Sometimes you can get around Variety's blocked pages by doing a Google search for the exact page you want. I also think it's possible by pasting the exact url to the page you want to see in the search bar. The page may go dark with their subscription pop-up, but you can still see the info you need. Basically, you can avoid it by not going to the page directly from their site. At least this was possible a year or two ago for me.

5 | Hugo | $180,000 | | $180,000 |
Love finally enters the admissions chart on Sunday. I think Underworld: Awakening did enough to take #1 overall for the weekend. As much as the $80,000 sneaks for Love will help, I still think U:A will come out ahead when those included in this weekend's totals. The big Sunday for Love will close the gap a bit. Safe House did OK, all things expected. Realistically, this wasn't destined for a breakout nor was it going to flop badly. This Means War had a pretty good drop. It will be able to pass $900,000. Hugo has been bumped up quite a bit from projections due to a second place admissions finish on Sunday. In terms of expectations, it still has the stigma of being a huge disappointment although it's not a disaster unlike before.

Re: HK: Weekend Actuals; Underworld 448k; April schedule up
February 23 Weekend actuals/totals 1 Underworld Awakening - $448,470 (weekend actual)2 This Means War - $776,822 3 Mr. & Mrs. Gambler - $587,249 4 Love - $272,208/$352,088 (weekend actual)5 Hugo In 3D - $188,867 (weekend actual)6 Safe House - $182,074 (weekend actual)7 The Lady - $502,083 8 Romancing in Thin Air - $1,135,371 9 The Artist - $103,809/$114,469 (weekend actual)10 Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - $171,038 Those totals for Love and The Artist includes Valentine's Day sneaks. No real major changes in terms of money-making, however, Hugo did manage to slip by Safe House for 4th this weekend.
Release Date | Movie Title | Awards Season |
March 1 | Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Love is Not Blind The Allure of Tears The Devil Inside Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara | We Need to Talk About Kevin A Separation |
March 8 | John Carter | The Iron Lady |
March 9 | | A Simple Life |
March 15 | Love Strikes Nightfall
March 16 | Marrying Mr. Perfect
March 22 | The Hunger Games Jack & Jill Love Lifting The Second Woman | Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy |
March 29 | Wrath of the Titans Love in the Buff
Interesting month ahead with 2 weekends with potential for upsets. March 8 will feature the big budget action blockbuster in John Carter and it will open against 2 films that have picked up awards for Best Actress. The Iron Lady will also open alongside A Simple Life which gets a Friday release. The Meryl Streep film will pick up viewers from Oscar followers but the race for #1 will be between John Carter and A Simple Life. Even without 3D and losing a day in the weekend, A Simple Life has already begun pre-selling and so far ticket sales have been excellent. With the recent spate of 3D releases floating in the half a million range, John Carter could fall into that category while A Simple Life could breeze by with 2 screens. John Carter will get IMAX but anticipation has been low. Most are awaiting The Hunger Games which will follow Carter 2 weeks after. March 15 will be pretty open as only one local release will make any push for the top 5. Nightfall is another crime drama that has seen similar films of its ilk open and close with pretty successful numbers in the summer. The Beast Stalker got a winter release back in 2008 and it did well ending with over 1m. Nightfall aiming towards that number in this kind of climate will be very good. It does face A Simple Life which will probably dominate screens and will cut into Nightfall's opening weekend. The Hunger Games release will the only weekend of March that is clear cut. It will begin on top and with a weekend over 1m. March 29 is another weekend to look at. Wrath of the Titans will square off against the sequel to the local hit Love in a Puff. The first Titans had scathingly bad word of mouth and dropped 70% after Easter weekend. The second one is expected to drop a bit and may do less than half than what its predecessor finished with. Add on to it the competition from The Hunger Games and this could fall into the John Carter category. Love in a Buff, meanwhile, should see a huge spike in its opening from the first one. I could see this making over $500,000 on opening weekend and possibly winning the March 29 weekend. I'll talk about the March 1 weekend in my next post.

Ghost Rider and Love is Not Blind will compete for #1. Sales have been sluggish for both films, moreso for Ghost Rider 2. Zindagi is getting some support from UA but tickets have been very slow moving. The Allure of Tears hasn't looked good at all. A Separation is playing well at the limited locations it is showing at. Can't say the same for We Need To Talk About Kevin. Holdover The Artist is looking extremely good but only at the theaters that it is still playing at in its 2nd weekend. Love also seems to be holding well but it might be cutting into Love is Not Blind's business. Hugo's been up and down so far. While it has gotten cut in some places, the theaters giving this another week have shown higher demand after the Oscars. The Lady continues to hold strong.

Re: HK: Weekend Actuals; Underworld 448k; April schedule up
Update
Hugo and The Artist are seeing Oscar bumps this weekend. Love is holding well. Love is Not Blind and Ghost Rider 2 are not exciting people much. Underworld 4 is down about 55-60% from opening weekend.
Pre-selling for John Carter has started. On its first day, it's been doing ok. It will probably sell about 65-70% of seats for the showtimes during peak hours.
The Iron Lady, A Simple Life and Nightfall have also started pre-selling in advance of their release date. The Iron Lady is looking OK so far at Broadway. A Simple Life is about a week and half away from release and it's already 30% full at most UA locations. Nightfall has just started with pre-selling but hasn't done much. I expect ticket sales to pick up next week.

Re: HK: Weekend Actuals; Underworld 448k; April schedule up
Honourable mention - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2The final installment of Harry Potter opened with a gigantic $3,640,758 coming in $600,000 bigger than the opening weekend from Half Blood Prince with 2.97m. Besides setting the record for opening weekend for a Harry Potter movie, it also took away one record from Transformers. That record was the biggest opening day for a non-holiday or weekend which Harry Potter just managed to squeeze out with a $790,625 start. It dropped to #2 in its 2nd weekend but took in another $1.7m. Its gross zipped up to 6.7m and Part 2 of the Deathly Hallows passed Order of the Phoenix to become the highest grossing movie in the franchise. It alternated between good and horrible holds for the remainder of its run before closing with 9.8m. 8. Mr. Popper's Penguins Released: July 7 OW - $919,768 Total - $2,494,058Sandwiched between two juggernauts, it seemed like the July 7 weekend was destined for mediocrity. That never materialized due to the surprise opening weekend from Mr. Popper's Penguins. The kid friendly film brought in kids and adults alike with its family story, a recognizable actor in Jim Carrey, but most importantly, cute CGI penguins. The movie also capitalized on the big/small factor akin to what Gulliver's Travels achieved in December 2010. All those factors helped in its opening weekend as it garnered the best PSA of that weekend with a whopping $16,424. Tracking its admissions on opening weekend, it was the individual winner and displaced the 3D version of Transformers 3. It wasn't able to defeat the combined admissions total of Transformers 3 but it saw an outstanding Sunday, increasing 5% from Saturday. Take a look at its opening weekend admissions below.
| Mr. Popper's Penguins |
Thursday | 28,289 |
Friday | 30,289 |
Saturday | 56,921 |
Sunday | 59,544 |
Total | 175,043 |
It opened in 37 theaters and scored a $25,028 PTA. That was only behind Rise of the Planet of the Apes and X-Men: First Class for the highest PTA for a non-3D release of the 2011 summer. As much as its first weekend surprised people, it still had obstacles to come. Although armed with a very good opening weekend, Mr. Popper's Penguins had the daunting task of going up against the finale of the Harry Potter series in its 2nd weekend. It remained unfazed though as it enjoyed the best hold of any wide release that week. Down a incredible 52%, this passed 2m by the end of its 2nd week. The release of Harry Potter might have allowed some breathing room the next weekend but it wasn't the case in Hong Kong. July 21 saw Mr. Popper's Penguins handed its biggest challenge yet. What do you get when you combine a big sequel that is coming off glowing reviews from the first one but is direct competition for Mr. Popper's audience? You realize that you've just been given the ultimate test in Kung Fu Panda 2. The sequel to the beloved hit didn't stop Mr. Popper's Penguins though. Popper's delivered a respectable 56% decline and increased its earnings to $2.21m. A slight reprieve occurred on the July 28 weekend when only 1 release battled for the top 5. By Popper's 4th weekend though, it was showing signs of fatigue. It took in another $93,000 and was up to 2.395m by Sunday. It suffered a 52% decrease with little new competition, signaling the beginning of the end of its run in Hong Kong as audiences' attention had already turned to Kung Fu Panda 2. It passed 2.4m by Monday. 5th weekend saw the releases of Captain America/The Smurfs duke it out for #1. Even though The Smurfs ended up in 2nd place, its impact on Mr. Popper's Penguins was far more significant. Popper's nosedived 66% with only a $31,000 weekend and its total inched up to 2.47m. Would it be able to glide past 2.5m? Nope, it had to settle for a shade under 2.5m in its 6th weekend after it collapsed 83% due to Cars 2 coming out. Overall, its performance was outstanding. It opened to an unexpected number then had solid holds the next few weekends. While it drowned near the end, it was shocking to see that something coming out between 2 high profile releases could open well, hold great and ride off into the cold with a solid total.
| Thursday adm. | (so far) | | March 1 |
Rank | Title | LW | TW | % chg |
1 | Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D | -- | 3,353 | -- |
2 | Underworld: Awakening 3D | 4,916 | 2,421 | -50.8% |
3 | Love is Not Blind | -- | 1,809 | -- |
4 | Love | -- | 967 | -- |
5 | Hugo 3D | 1,926 | 918 | -52.3% |
Ghost Rider 2 might only start with $300,000. That would be down from the original's opening even with 3D. Underworld had a good drop. It remains to be seen if this drop will extend to the weekend. Love is not Blind did poorly. It was affected by Love which is holding nicely. Hugo is going to have a good hold this weekend.

March, April and Summer blockbuster schedules updated.

4 | Safe House | Universal Int'l | $182,021 | 1 | 26 | $7,001 | | $238,249 |
5 | This Means War | Fox Int'l | $169,995 | 2 | 35 | $4,857 | -58% | $803,152 |
6 | Mr. & Mrs. Gambler | Newport Ent. | $149,862 | 2 | 29 | $5,168 | -51% | $647,124 |
7 | Artist, The | Edko | $114,428 | 1 | 17 | $6,731 | | $179,506 |
8 | Lady, The | Golden Scene | $71,298 | 3 | 13 | $5,484 | -47% | $527,344 |
9 | Romancing In Thin Air | Media Asia | $52,297 | 3 | 30 | $1,743 | -74% | $1,145,768 |
10 | Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close | Warner Bros Int'l | $47,507 | 2 | 15 | $3,167 | -48% | $184,609 |
I managed to work around the Variety issue for now. No telling if or when it reverts back to subscription only page again. Underworld had a respectable opening. It had the 3D prices to inflate its opening weekend but Underworld has never had a strong following here. If you compare the grosses of the vampire franchises here and Malaysia or Singapore, you'll see that the mythological creatures play much stronger in those territories. It's partially the reason why the studios dump Twilight on Christmas weekend as opposed to day-date almost everywhere else. Love had an exceptional opening. Score another hit for Taiwan. Even though Hugo clawed its way into 3rd, it's the most disappointing opener this week. It had 3D but kids weren't interested in this fantasy. It'll end with a good total though because of the recognition from the Oscars. Over 600k is in play here. Safe House opened tepidly but after the slew of action movies, its OW gross was bound to be hit. This Means War had a very good drop. $950,000 would be very good for it. Mr. & Mrs. Gambler had an excellent drop. It faced heavy competition but it looks headed toward $800,000. The Artist opened decently. It'll pass $400,000 and may flirt with $500k. The Lady had another small decline. It could hit 600,000 before it's done. Romancing in Thin Air just can't seem to hold at all. It'll end close to 1.2m. Mediocre for Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. It is destined for $200,000.

The Lady | $533,262 |
Disgustingly bad for Ghost Rider 2. It'll open to less than the original even with 3D prices. Underworld Awakening has already passed Evolution to become the highest money-making film in the franchise. It should end up with 800-850k with a huge drop coming next weekend. Love is doing extremely well. Poor for Love is Not Blind. It was hurt by Love. Decent enough for The Devil Inside. It's going for a little above 100k for the weekend. The Artist had a nice Oscar bump. Similar for Hugo. Wonderful for A Separation. It'll hit a $10,000 PTA in its opening weekend. Harsh drops for This Means War and Safe House.

Weak for Ghost Rider 2. Love is Not Blind was really affected by Love. Love is continuing to show strength. Sub-50% weekend drop assured. Underworld: Awakening won't have good drops but it at least has the comfort of knowing that it's the highest moneymaking film in the franchise. 2nd weekend gain for Hugo will happen this weekend.

| Saturday adm. | | | | March 3 |
Rank | Title | LW | TW | WKD % chg | QD % chg |
1 | Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D | -- | 11,801 | -- | +81.2% |
2 | Hugo 3D | 9,916 | 11,243 | +13.4% | +232.2% |

5 | Underworld: Awakening 3D | 13,176 | 5,974 | -54.7% | +30.7% |
Ghost Rider 2 had a nice increase although its weekend will be awful. Massive spike for Hugo. Good for the two 'Love' films. Extremely poor for Underworld: Awakening.
| Weekend Projections | | | March 1 |
Rank | Title | TW (est.) | % chg | Total (est.) |
1 | Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance | $300,000 | | $300,000 |
2 | Hugo | $218,000 | +15% | $498,000 |
3 | Love | $170,000 | -37% | $625,000 |
4 | Underworld: Awakening | $155,000 | -65% | $769,000 |
5 | The Artist | $145,000 | +45% | $325,000 |
No changes except for Underworld: Awakening. Terrible legs for the vampire film. Love is Not Blind is aiming somewhere between $140,000-$150,000 for the weekend. Very big weekend coming up next week.

Re: HK 3/1: Weekend Projections; NW: John Carter, Iron Lady,
3 Idiots finally ends its run after an astonishing 27 weekends in release. That has to be a record.
More on that August 2 weekend. It seems that Fox was scared that Paramount's GI Joe 2 would rake over the competition (probable). What I can't understand is why they want Abe Lincoln to go into a crowded weekend. Most likely, 2 films will move but which 2, I am still not sure yet. Dreamworks keeps changing dates with Madagascar. Total Recall is set for release there. Not too sure about Brave yet. It could get moved to middle of August.
Again, big weekend upcoming. I will have more on that later.

Poor for Ghost Rider 2. Hugo had a solid increase especially since it didn't win any big Oscar awards. Good 2nd weekend for Love. Love is Not Blind would have done better if it wasn't released so soon after another romance movie. Alarming Sunday admissions hold for Underworld drops it down to 5th.

Re: HK 3/8: Will John Carter escape from "A Simple Life"?
John Carter will have some tough competition this week. The Iron Lady and A Simple Life are both expected to rank in the top 3. The Iron Lady is playing wide (more than 20 theaters) but A Simple Life is getting almost every theater and will be going ultra wide. John Carter will match A Simple Life and will be going ultra wide as well. A Simple Life, however, has had 2 weeks of pre-selling and it has done terrific business so far. Almost all Friday night shows at each theater are well ahead of the individual theater's traditional selling periods. (ie. almost full with 4 days to go) Even very slow pre-selling theaters are doing better than normal. A look into A Simple Life's opening day sales at Langham Place.
Langham Place | | | | |
| A Simple Life | | | |
Day | Time | Seats sold | Seats available | % filled |
Mar. 9 | 12:20 PM | 33 | 202 | 16.3% |
| 2:40 PM | 3 | 202 | 1.5% |
| 5:00 PM | 20 | 202 | 9.9% |
| 7:20 PM | 202 | 202 | 100.0% |
| 9:40 PM | 135 | 202 | 66.8% |
| 10:00 PM | 37 | 191 | 19.4% |
| 12:00 AM | 13 | 202 | 6.4% |
Total | | 443 | 1403 | 31.6% |
10 PM show was newly added yesterday. Friday Midnight is looking very good. Business has been phenomenal for A Simple Life at UA theaters. It is also doing well at Broadway/AMC theaters.
Festival Walk | | | | |
| A Simple Life | | | |
Day | Time | Seats sold | Seats available | % filled |
Mar. 9 | 10:50 AM | 64 | 354 | 18.1% |
| 1:00 PM | 30 | 354 | 8.5% |
| 3:10 PM | 28 | 354 | 7.9% |
| 5:20 PM | 35 | 354 | 9.9% |
| 7:20 PM | 88 | 156 | 56.4% |
| 10:00 PM | 112 | 354 | 31.6% |
Total | | 357 | 1926 | 18.5% |
I expect A Simple Life to get another screen at all theaters. It is looking dominant and will win this weekend with ease even with only a 3-day start. The Iron Lady has been holding its own. While it is not expected to challenge for the top 2, it will enjoy a solid weekend. Meryl Streep is pretty popular here. John Carter looks to be leaning toward being a solid hit. After the latest stinker in Ghost Rider 2, early pre-selling suggests that it will finish a distant #2.

Broadway/AMC seem to be supporting The Iron Lady over John Carter. Meryl Streep has a lot of clout here. The Iron Lady has been doing well in the business district. Not so in the more rural areas. John Carter seems to be doing alright all around. Biggest holdover winners are Hugo, The Artist and A Separation. Biggest losers are Underworld: Awakening, Ghost Rider 2 and Love.

UA is a different story. John Carter is being given more showtimes than The Iron Lady. The Iron Lady is only getting half of UA's theaters. John Carter looks good at UA so far. Tomorrow, I'll be posting Friday schedules to include A Simple Life's opening day showtimes.

No schedule for John Carter on Friday just yet but I'm guessing its the same as Thursday's. Now for some fun fun fun...

| 10:30 PM | 25 | 163 | 15.3% | | 10:20 PM | 7 | 111 | 6.3% |
| 12:00 AM | 6 | 163 | 3.7% | | 11:50 PM | 4 | 163 | 2.5% |
Total | | 400 | 1852 | 21.6% | Total | | 272 | 1696 | 16.0% |
A Simple Life is clearly out in front. What's most noticeable is that while The Iron Lady had a 1 week headstart, A Simple Life ticket sales are robust and outpacing The Iron Lady's. Even though A Simple Life only has one 7 PM showtime, it is in front of The Iron Lady with other showtimes, more specifically, the afternoon ones. I'll be doing more of these throughout the week.

A Simple Life is dominating right now. It might even add more shows later. Theaters are holding back some showtimes at night. The Iron Lady getting more screens doesn't mean much. It lost the biggest screen to A Simple Life so it's getting compensated with 2 screens for the full day. It will lose some seats from Thursday (about 80) per showing.

Re: HK 3/8 THU: John Carter who? Iron Lady makes bold statem
March and April schedules updated.
| Thursday adm. | (so far) | | March 8 |
Rank | Title | LW | TW | % chg |
1 | The Iron Lady | -- | 6,487 | -- |
2 | John Carter 3D | -- | 3,830 | -- |

5 | Love is Not Blind | 1,809 | 756 | -58.2% |
Excellent for The Iron Lady. This could challenge The Devil Wears Prada for the 2nd biggest OW of a Meryl Streep movie in HK. John Carter was a no-show. So disappointing. I can't imagine it doing any worse in walk-ins than Ghost Rider 2. Great drop for Hugo. It's not going to last though. It will get dumped with 1 showtime starting tomorrow. Who knows what will happen this weekend. Ghost Rider looks decent by Ghost Rider standards but it's getting cut in the majority of theaters tomorrow. It'll have worse drops as the weekend progresses. Love is Not Blind looks OK for now but that will change tomorrow. If The Iron Lady can get 6,400 with opening day pre-sales, A Simple Life should begin with over 30,000 admissions on Friday. A Simple Life might be able to get to 45,000-50,000 for the day tomorrow...maybe even more if theaters decide to give it more showtimes. If you really want to see how bad A Simple Life is taking down the competition, look no further.

This is the full day schedule for John Carter, The Iron Lady and A Simple Life at Palace APM. A Simple Life is killing it with strong Friday night sessions. Even APM's morning session is almost full. For a Friday, that is fantastic. Even better is that it still has one more full day to go to sell the remaining 70 seats. At other theaters, morning sessions for A Simple Life are almost full at about 80% of the locations giving it a morning showtime. Night shows are selling out at most theaters while others are exhibiting stronger than usual sales. If we go back to APM's admissions, afternoon showtimes for A Simple Life are impressive. The 3:20 and 5:30 showtimes in particular are showing us the strength of A Simple Life in general. The solid pre-selling at night filters into the afternoon which is causing The Iron Lady's and John Carter's numbers to look bad. Friday's 889 admissions for A Simple Life is more than 6x better than both John Carter or The Iron Lady's Friday alone. With the 2-day totals for The Iron Lady and John Carter, A Simple Life is almost doubling both movies with 1 less day. You might have noticed John Carter's stable numbers of % filled for each showtime. Well, for 3D releases, theaters allocate a number of seats where those are not available to be sold. They mark those as 'sold seats' when in reality, they are empty. I did some quick calculations here on John Carter's opening day and John Carter's actual % of seats filled on opening day is only 4.9% (minus Wed. midnight showing).

Re: HK 3/8 THU: John Carter who? Iron Lady makes bold statem
We've got our first Friday morning sell-out for A Simple Life. Usually morning shows get full right before the showtime starts so this sellout is a huge surprise. Another morning showtime at this theater is sold out as well. That one is very impressive given that it's in the morning and it's full price for adults (except for seniors). The picture above is where everyone gets a discount to see it in the morning (not the same one). Both showtimes sold out before noon Thursday.
Weekend Showtimes | | |

iSquare | 6 (1 MN) | 15 (2 MN) |
Langham Place | 13 (4 MN) | 13 (2 MN) |
Windsor Cinema | 10 (2 MN) | 12 (2 MN) |
Pacific Place | 4 | 8 (1 MN) |
If A Simple Life can get to 50,000 admissions on Friday, Saturday should be in the 75,000-80,000 range with those kinds of showtimes.

Ugly for Ghost Rider 2. Very nice increase for Hugo. After a below par opening weekend, its run will save it from being a disappointment. It's headed toward $700,000-$750,000. Great hold for Love. It should be able to pass $750,000 and possibly $800,000. OK decrease for Underworld 4. On its way to $900,000. Poor start for Love is Not Blind. Superb increase for The Artist. With Valentine's Day sneaks taken out from last weekend, it is up 24%. Respectable opening for The Devil Inside. Good hold for This Means War. Will pass $900,000 on Monday or Tuesday. Safe House had a weak hold. $350,000 is possible. Mr. & Mrs. Gambler will pass $725,000. Phantom of the Opera has collected $379,965 from 232 showings so far. That is a Per Showing Average of $1,637.78 ($12,715 HK). Fantastic news!

Good numbers for A Simple Life at Langham Place and Festival Walk but ticket sales have slowed down a lot at both locations. Strong sales for A Simple Life at Palace APM. It's doing 5 times the business of The Iron Lady and John Carter. John Carter is picking up slightly.

5 | Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D | 6,655 | 1,546 | -76.8% |
The Iron Lady opened up a bigger lead in the afternoon but John Carter was furiously trying to come back at night. Love is Not Blind had a very good decline Thursday. Hugo had an excellent hold. Awful for Ghost Rider 2.

Not quite the 30k start I had hoped for but that is still a very good pre-sales number. A Simple Life should be around 40-45k for the day. That number for A Simple Life is the highest opening day pre-selling number since Harry Potter 7-2 opened last summer. For comparison's sake, it has already beaten out Overheard 2's entire opening day admissions. Good increase for The Iron Lady. It'll be at 12-13k today. John Carter should crack 10k for the day. Decent hold for Hugo. Love is Not Blind got dropped like a hot potato.

A Simple Life is gaining a lot of the extra showtimes on the weekend. John Carter & The Iron Lady are picking up showtimes at different locations. John Carter will probably have to settle for 3rd in admissions this weekend. Gross, it should still come in 2nd.

While admissions were bad, John Carter had a ratio of 20! OW is looking like it will challenge $800,000. The Iron Lady did alright. It'll open with more than $300,000. Very good for Love and Love is Not Blind. Love should hit $750,000 before breaking it off. Love is Not Blind should do about $275,000. Ghost Rider 2 might not even make it to $500,000. Great hold for Hugo. $600,000 is still happening. Decent for The Devil Inside. It'll finish with more than $200,000. Harsh drop for The Artist. $400,000 seems like the best it can do. Not bad for A Separation. $150,000 is possible. Major collapse by Underworld. $900,000 looks iffy.

Extremely strong for A Simple Life. It is targeting 60,000 admissions today. The Iron Lady looks to get about 18-19k. John Carter should see solid walk-in business. Possible 15k for the day. Poor for Hugo. It'll probably double its Friday admissions. Excellent showing for A Separation.

Good for A Simple Life. Isn't that a local indie financed by Andy Lau's production company?

It's co-produced by Andy's company. The other two co-producers are Sii-Metropole and Bona Film Group.

All 3 managed to outdo my target estimates for today. Excellent for A Simple Life. I am shocked that it did so well with walk-ins. Very nice for The Iron Lady. John Carter had a pretty good rebound today after 2 poor days. It increased a whopping 110% from Saturday. That is an eye-opener. Awful crash for Hugo. Fantastic for A Separation. I'm surprised it cracked the top 5 in admissions from just 5 theaters. Looks to have a drop below 50%. Here's a look at the Sunday schedules for the top 3 at The ONE.

Amazing for A Simple Life. Every showtime for it is a quarter filled or more except for the last one. The Iron Lady and John Carter both seem to be doing better.

2 | John Carter | $800,000 | | $800,000 |
3 | The Iron Lady | $350,000 | | $350,000 |

5 | Love is Not Blind | $50,000 | -65.8% | $253,000 |
A Simple Life is dominating the rest of the field in admissions and that should be enough to uphold its rank at #1. John Carter will come in at a strong #2. I am not sure if the admissions or if the actuals are wrong but someone really dropped the ball on John Carter here. In any case, with strong weekend sales, this is looking at a weekend in the $800,000 range, upwards of $900,000. The Iron Lady had the weakest increase of the top 4 on Saturday but it will land somewhere around $350,000 for the weekend. Hugo got creamed hard by the new openers. It'll still enjoy another weekend in the top 5 and will pass $600,000. Love is Not Blind has the best chance out of the 3 other holdovers for the 5th spot. Love and Ghost Rider 2 are also possibilities at this point but Love is Not Blind has the most screens and favourable showtimes.
