 Re: Focus predictions
Even if there's no substance, I would probably watch banter between Will Smith and Margot Robbie for 2 hours.

 Re: Focus predictions
Hm. The weekend it comes out actually seems like it'll be pretty good. Focus and Lazarus Effect could combine for 45+ million.

So I guess there is an embargo on this.

 Re: Focus predictions
What I'm hoping is that leaving out key plot points from the marketing was an intentional decision. Certainly possible if they feel Smith is enough to get people out OW.

 Re: Focus predictions
New ads airing this weekend revealing a little more about the stakes/plot. Definite $30m+ weekend coming up.

 Re: Focus predictions
I just saw a TV spot during the Oscar red carpet, they look much more appealing than the trailer.

 Re: Focus predictions
The plot isn't super strong. But it moves quickly, it's funny, Margot is sexy, and it has some really well done individual scenes.
It's really more of a romantic con-medy!

 Re: Focus predictions
The marketing for this movie is totally un-focused. They arent sure what they want to sell this movie as. A romantic comedy or con man action thriller? Luckily Smith has Concussion (which is more clear cut drama) and Suicide Squad (clear cut blockbuster) coming up because this movie run is going be totally forgettable.

 Re: Focus predictions
They probably should've gone full on romantic comedy with the marketing. That's the centerpoint of the movie. The problem with that is there aren't a ton of romantic parts that would work in a trailer. It's a very strange movie to figure out how to market.

 Re: Focus predictions
I think the direction they went with the marketing is probably just fine. It probably appealed to the same people that Entrapment appealed to. Some movies just aren't destined to be seen by all. It doesn't matter what the marketing tries.

 Re: Focus predictions
the legs for this type of genre is always very strong (American Hustle, The Italian Job, Argo, Ocean's Eleven, etc.) I think $100m benchmark and 4x+ legs is very doable, with anl outside shot of nabbing top film of February.

 Re: Focus predictions
Well, those had Oscar buzz or were Summer releases. Focus probably won't reach $100m, and I don't think anyone expects it to.
