 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
The TV spots I'm seeing aren't very good. They're completely focusing on a rapid-fire succession of action shots, not even listing the cast.
Against Underworld, it might have been a smarter move to emphasize the prestige and spy elements.

 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
TV spots for Underworld are everywhere. 3D premium is going to help it like it did to the fourth Final Destination movie. I am thinking about $26 million OW for it.
The synopsis of Red Tails reads like a conformist B-movie to me. Because of its ethnic appeal, it should easily double the OW of another wartime-aviator-themed Flyboys. I am pegging it to a $13 million OW.
Haywire will get lost in the shuffle. A $7 million OW looks likely.

 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
Wow, Underworld Awakening is only 88 minutes long. 45 minutes shorter than the first film. Lots of showtimes per day certainly won't be a problem.

Mtc 26 underworld 13 exloud 11 red 6.5 hay {nm}
Looking really good for Underworld and Red Tails. The MTC/RS rule has been very consistant so far.

 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
Poor Haywire, lol. It's interesting how movies in "low-brow" genres which get better than expected reviews often aren't helped by them. Slither and Fright Night, for example, are both certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, but did poorly at the box office. Add their final grosses together and it might top The Devil Inside's first two days. Now this well-received action movie from an Oscar winning director comes along and is going to flop.

Yeah things aren't looking to good for it at all. At this point it could go sub $6M IMO. I feel really bad for Carano who was working her ass off on this movie. Not only is she gorgeous, but just from interviews she seems like a really sweet and genuine person and you can tell she wanted to breakout big with Haywire. Atleast she is getting the critical support though.

This should mean Underworld at $30M+. Maybe it'll beat TDI's OW.

The Artist looks like it's more than doubling its theater count but won't go wide until Oscar noms are announced.

 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
Ha, The Devil Inside is actually leaving my theater already. Last weekend they had reduced it to one of their small non-stadium seating screens, and now it's gone. That's pretty pathetic since this is an 18-screen theater.

It's keeping two showtimes here, I believe.

 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
I'm really suprised at how well Red Tails is doing on Twitter. It's killing UWA in the tweet counts and it's already in the top 5 Fandango ticket sales while UWA isn't. I smell a potential breakout.

 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
Red Tails was a lot of fun. The story is so so but the action and dog fights more then makes up for it. The fact that it is doing so well on Twitter and fandango is a very good sign. Lucas has did an outstanding job getting word out about this film with all the screenings he has been doing. I saw it for free but it will be getting my money this weekend.
Does anybody have boxoffice Twitter write up for all three films.

 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
don't understand why people expected big things from Haywire. Hannah and Colombiana only did 13 and 10 million opening weekend and those films were rated PG-13. Haywire is an R rated film opening with Underworld and Red tails. It also does not help that the main star is not really a boxoffice force. Other than Salt these females ass kicking film really do not open big. Howerver I will admit I did not think Haywire would be tracking this bad. It does look good.

 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
The Artist is currently at 544 theaters for Friday on Moviefone. The Iron Lady is at 906 so I believe it will break 1,000. My Week With Marilyn might be losing theaters. Only 152 are listed so far.

 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
It's just what Moviefone has listed for them so far. On Moviefone search for the movie, select showtimes, then pick the date and set the distance as unlimited.

 Re: January 20-22 Predictions
Are we looking at a breakout for Red Tails? It would seem so. Weird as I only saw my first ad for it before War Horse last Friday and haven't seen a single one on TV.
